The Bayonet at Bayonet/Black Horse Golf Course

About
It was upon this land that General Bob McClure constructed the Bayonet Golf Course in 1954 and, due to Bayonet's initial acclaim, Fort Ord decided to expand the course. In 1964 a second 18-hole championship course named Black Horse was officially opened.
The Bayonet and Black Horse courses are steeped in rich tradition and have played host to PGA Tour greats such as Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus and Tom Watson, as well as several U.S. Presidents and foreign dignitaries. After a practice round in 1997, PGA Tour Professional Billy Andrade said, "If they play the U.S. Open here, the scores would be over par. It's tough, but it's fun!" One thing is for certain, the Bayonet and Black Horse Golf Courses offer golf enthusiasts and history buffs alike, an experience that they are unlikely to forget.

Course always in great condition
Fast greens
Course is amazing
We’ve played here in the past but something about this round really impressed us. The course is in top shape from fairways to the greens. I highly recommend it without hesitation!!
Range closed
Played here a lot. Pretty much my favorite course but yesterday there was a reservation on the range, so it was closed at 2:30. Not a big deal but one of the events going on was people hitting balls at a target aimed almost directly at the fairway on hole 2. There was about 100 golf balls in the fairway and no one picking them up. Kind of frustrating couldn’t find the ball I hit in the middle of the fairway. Would recommend if there are events like that, that someone monitor where all the balls are landing
Excellent Condition
Definitely the tougher course between this and Black Horse. Still very enjoyable. The greens are recovering from maintenance but they’re rolling fairly true for how they are. Fairways are in excellent condition as is the rough. It’s worth the money, disregard the recent reviews about poor conditions. Black Horse looks very nice as well.
Great Local Spot
Great, tough course. A little too tight with homes encroaching on a couple holes on the front nine, but get past those, and it's a great layout. Everyone very friendly. I wouldn't pay the rack rate. I think it's an $80 course where I live in Dallas, but this is Monterey. Deals to be found and highly suggest that route. Love the local feel. Rode as a 4-some in 4 hours. Fantastic shape, except for bunkers, which were a little thin.

There are too many homes decorating this historical major league golf course? The breath taking ocean views are being camouflaged by new construction and homes.
The bunkers still needs sand I take a penalty when I land onto the hard pan with to many pebbles.
The edges need some trimming? The rough was found to tough for this old pony. So land on the green or short of green?
All and all it’s a tough stay awake track with
Killer putting greens. Never boring!
Great condition after our monsoon weather
I live 40 miles north as the courses drain phenomenal allowing carts to b utilized on the fairways even after rain the day B4.
Finally played it
Played it in wet conditions. Enjoyed the layout very much. Course was for the most part in good shape but a little rough in spots
