Enchanting Golf
First time visit to Amelia Island. Played the Ocean Links course and would definitely return. There are some very challenging holes and the holes by the ocean really made the round.
Skins game delight!
The perfect track for your break between playing longer tracks. Course is short and tight but with 6 par 3's, perfect for some skins play with buddies. Some great views on the Atlantic Ocean and some surprising elevation changes for those that expect a typical Florida course layout. Wind exposure on the beach makes club selection paramount on 5-6 holes. Only gripe is this course gets a lot of resort play, and the fairways were littered with divots, mostly filled due to the limited landing areas on the narrow fairways. Greens were in very good shape though, and rolled true which is a big deal to me when playing.
Find somewhere else to play
This course was in horrible condition. I realize it was still somewhat winter season but to pay $150 to play a course in this condition was outrageous. Concierge at the Ritz Carlton recommended since their course happened to be closed but I made sure to they were made aware of their mistake. I have played nicer muni courses for $30.
Ocean Links Course Great
If you are in the Fernandina Beach area this is the one course you must play. Stunning views of the ocean on five holes. Somewhat challenging with excellent conditions. Best greens in the area. A Cape Cod golfer.
Great layout. Great views. Need to play it more than once to understand it
Blind shots and elevated greens make club selection tough. See it twice and you'll play it better I'd wager. Bunkers were thin and a few greens crusty but overall a good test and pretty fun course. Views were outstanding!!
Looking forward to getting another go at this track
Complicated!!
First of all call ahead after you book and ask for directions and procedures and which gate to go thru...Confirm your T time ahead ....just sayin...lol......This place could use a few more signs for directions while on the golf course. Huge place so take you time. Being the time of yr. we went course was not up to Par...greens ..fairways..bunkers all needed help. The holes on the Ocean are incredible and if the winds blowing just think irons and and 2 clubs or so and enjoy the view. Overall I'm sure if I played this course in May or June it's probably awesome!!!!! Less the wind hopefully!!!! So I'll try again. Diffently worth playing! !
Terrible Greens
The layout of the greens need considerable work. If you knew the greens well they would be tough, however as a resort course the ball would ht undulations and roll off the sides, front or back.
The rest of the course was reasonably laid out.
Got behind two groups of 4 wives and 4 husbands, brutally slow, and no marshal.
Not recommended.
WOW - What a view
I found the fairways and greens in average condition for Florida courses this time of year. The views were priceless. I have played over 40 different courses in Northeast Florida /Southeast Georgia and no one has views like Ocean Links.
Showing its age.
The par 3's on the ocean front are great. The remainder of the course is getting old and needs some TLC.
Ocean Course
Played on Monday at 11pm had the course to ourself. Done in 3 hours. Tight challenging course. Had a hard time telling if the greens were real, they were so full and perfect. There are four hole that run along the beach and bring a camera. Great golf and food.
Good even in the fog
Ocean Links is a good description of the course. Set in the dunes off the Ocean the layout ranges from straightforward to extremely exacting. Playing 6 holes as the fog rolled in was totally baffling but a lot of fun. There were a number of areas barren or with minimal grass. It is offseason and green stuff isn't growing yet. So, a number of shots were more difficult that during warmer months. Overall, a great course that I can have to play again before we North.
Beautiful southern charm
Great old course cut out of the oaks then it Cascades over to the ocean for several holes Breathtaking views in either Setting
Incredible Views From a Course With Teeth
Amazing layout? Check. Incredible Ocean views? Check. Challenging holes that play much harder than they look on the card? Check. Excellent value for the dollar? Check. Will I play here every time that I am within 300 miles of North Florida? Absolutely!
The Ocean Links at Amelia Island is an amazing golf course. The only course that I played on our vacation which I liked more was TPC Sawgrass (and we played two courses at PGA National including the Champ and Slammer and Squire on this trip as well) and the Ocean Links came close to Sawgrass in everything except for getting the "tour" experience. This course is perfectly maintained, the greens are fast and consistent, and the ocean views are breathtaking. Dollar for dollar, this might be the best golf you can play on the entire East Coast. Get here. Get here often.
Challenging and well-maintained oceanside course
Don't let the short overall length of the course fool you (~6,100 from the tips), Ocean Links can be a challenge even when the wind isn't blowing. If you have trouble getting off the tee, I'd recommend playing Oak Marsh over Ocean Links, which is a Pete Dye course and another great track at Omni Amelia Island Plantation.
Both courses are usually in great shape and Ocean Links had lush fairways and smooth and fast greens when I played (early January 2016).
Unbelievable course
Got to play there at least once.
Short Course
Layout was strange but holes on the water are scenic.Greens were very good but fairways were sparse. Golf course goes through the development and is a bit confusing....I would recommend this course as its negatives were far outweighed by the positives
Amazing views - challenging course
We decided to drive up from Jacksonville to play this gem because they had a deal on golf now for $41 each. It is worth the money and worth the 40 minute drive. We opted to play the back tees once we saw the yardage was only about 6,000 and that was a mistake. Two of us in the group are an 8 handicap so the length wasn't the problem it was the accuracy. Playing the back tees forced us to hit driver the majority of the time and the course plays extremely difficult from any position not in the fairway. So we chipped out of the woods and searched for balls on the majority of the 18 holes but that didn't damper the day or the great condition of the course. The rough is long as well so if you barely miss the fairway or green chances are your ball has settled down to where the eyes can't see easily.
They do have about 6 holes that are directly on the Atlantic Ocean. a par 4 then two par 3's in a row on the front. It is the ONLY course I've played (from coastal Georgia all the way to hammock dunes south of St Augustine) that has holes just feet away from the dunes. on the back 9 the Atlantic ocean makes a return after weaving in and out of the trees for about 7 holes. There's a majestic uphill par 3 followed by the most impossible par 4 I've ever played. It's a blind tee shot over the sand dunes and you can't even see the ball land. Once again, drive probably wasn't the correct play but we walked about 80 yards backwards to find our tee so it was a long carry.
I love the course and plan on playing it many more times. I'll be more willing to leave the driver in the bag so I can truly enjoy what is has to offer. It should be played as an a - b - c course (like all Pete Dye courses) the shot shaping and demand it of your golf ball that it requires is similar to Pete Dye's gem, The stadium course at Sawgrass.
Omni Ocean Links
Beautiful course and facilities. Highly recommended.
. Nice Ocean views.
The course plays short on front nine except for number 9. Ocean holes are very scenic. Back nine much harder. Cart paths need improvement. To pricy for the course.
