Black Bear Golf Club

This has always been a fun golf course for me. Probably I have golfed it 70 times over the years. New management has improved the fairways, greatly raised prices, and done nothing to improve the marginal to poor greens. Yesterday the greens were very slow and had crab grass in spots. Fairways and tees were in good shape, and the practice facility is very good as well.

The staff is very unfriendly and not worth a conversation. Our group felt threatened by their approach and despite many attempts, they were coming at us as we were non white. Golf is a game for everyone and the greats of the game have proved that. We felt insecure through the round as one of the staff members was rude and clearly out to make it difficult for us to play. He was completely the opposite with other groups. Don’t go there if you are a non-white.

Enjoyed the round. One players first time. Liked course. Couple of greens needed attention. # 6 green seems to be a continuous problem.

Course is being air rated and sanded. Prices are too high for these conditions.

Good to very good condition. Wasn't busy at all for a noon weekday time. Nicer fairways. Greens were good - but have been better. They do a good job here. I'll be back for sure.

Fun Dye course. The greens are a little bit like an amusement park. Not boring at all.

Good course some green was dry and made it run fast. I’m sure it be corrected. When the price comes down somewhat I’ll be playing there more often even though it’s a ways from home. It’s worth the drive.

Other than the greens being a little rough and bumpy, the course (tee boxes and fairways) was in great shape. Will play again in the future.

I had an amazing tike playing this course and will for sure return soon. The course has a links style feel, but with relatively small greens and that were the course really test you. Very hard to lose a ball here, but also has fun and challenging approach shots. If you want to freely swing your driver and work on dialing in the irons, this is the place.

Fairways in decent condition. Greens were nice. Tee boxes could use a little work but overall a great day. Would return anytime.

Course is good, the greens are not in good shape at this point.

We played at 12:12 and there was no starter. The greens were gawd awful. To be specific, they looked abandoned, and were the slowest I’ve played all year, no other greens even come close to how slow these are. They really rip your heart out. Hole no.9 is a joke. Huge pools of water, at least three, in fairway. The hole is a mess. The sand traps on the entire property are absolutely atrocious. Humongous ruts from the rain and water, basically look like the bottom of a pond if you could see the bottom of the trap. Basically playing off mud cake lyes. What a shame. Most of the tee boxes were fine, some were very bad. This course is good for hitting drives (except no.9) and that’s about it. I believe fair market value for this course would be $25 if you live nearby. If you have to drive more than 30 minutes, I’d say fair market value would be $18-$20. If you don’t care or don’t take the game seriously, this place works, if you have any pride, do yourself a favor and find somewhere else to play.
