South/North at Fernandina Beach Golf Club
About
South/North is one of three golf courses at Fernandina Beach Golf Club. The facility is home to three distinct nines that form three different 18-hole combinations. Winding through thick forests of oaks and pines, Fernandina Beach Golf Club's South/North course offers a glimpse at native Florida wildlife. The South nine depends more on accuracy rather than distance while the north nine, the shortest in length of the three, features undulating greens. Water hazards also come into play throughout the golf course. Fernandina Beach's 27 unique holes are made even more appealing by the affordable rates and convenient proximity to Jacksonville and the beach.

Improving
This is a muni, so you should set your expectations accordingly. While conditions are not great, they are improving. The south course was awful, has started to show signs of improvement. There is a long way to go, but it is encouraging to see that there is finally some effort being put forth. This 9 has a great layout, but years of neglect will take years of work to bring it up to par (sorry for the pun).
The greens were in very good condition
I've played here before and it was in good condition for this course. Many of the tee boxes were in need of repair but the greens were the best I've seen them.
Course was challenging
The course layout was challenging but fair. My only complaint is course conditions. Some of the fairways had bare areas, the worst being the first hole on the South course. All the staff were very friendly and helpful.
Fun place for a municipal
This is a fun, reasonable place for a muni course. Kudos that they are repairing the South 9, which in my opinion is better just for the variety versus the North and West’s almost straight line fairways. They do appear to book 7 minute apart Tee times and can be frustrating because it backs up the course. This last round we had to wait 30 for a cart. In my humble opinion 10-12 minutes apart would be better. I prefer walking this course and have done so many times. I’m reviewing now because they are attempting to improve its standard of play and repair some damaged areas.
Go elsewhere
No fairways to speak of, tee boxes are anything but grass, poorly maintained and the list goes on. Its conveniently located near the beach but that's about it. Not worth the money, even for residents.
COURSE PREPAREDNESS
North and West is in good shape. South needs to be shut down for renovation. If South covers to a par 3 course, I'll no longer choose to play at FBMC.
North and West Courses
The West and North Courses are better of the three. South Course is just a lost cause at this point. Overgrowth is killing that course and some parts of the West and North. If they can sell the South Course and put the money from that into the West and North then it could be a great course. Trees need to be trimmed back or removed so the fairways can get sunlight so they aren’t so bare.
Course has potential
This could be a very nice course,
This course is poorly maintained,
Grass is sparse on fairway’s, rough is just weeds
Greens are poor also,
This could be a great asset for the city, but they mismanage this course terribly,
You need to have grass on a golf course, not weeds
Would love to see it managed properly
