West/South at Fernandina Beach Golf Club
About
Just north of the Jacksonville Airport, Fernandina Beach Golf Club offers three 18-hole courses that are conveniently located within distance of both Jacksonville and the beach. There are three distinct nines at the club that create three different 18-hole combinations. The West/South combination is the tournament course at Fernandina Beach Golf Club. The West nine is long and there is a challenging par-5 that is one of the most difficult on the golf course. The South nine features an abundance of trees and water hazards, putting a heavier emphasis on accuracy rather than distance in scoring well. The golf course is also considered a perfect example of scenic Florida golf with native foliage and wildlife throughout.

Golfer Reviews
Public course in a sea of private courses
The staff was great. Very informative and friendly.
The practice range was in terrible shape.
We moved over to the practice green, only to find out the greens had been recently punched. (No warnings)
We moved to the first tee, and the tee boxes were in poor condition. All tee boxes were like this.
Of course, the rest of the tee boxes were like this.
The rough was thick, so stay in the fairway.
The weeds along the cart path were tall, so watch your step.
This could be a really nice course if the city would let the course keep some of the money, for the maintenance of the course.

Good time
Greens had been aerated recently, so putting was a challenge. Great course if you bring along a beginner and/or want to work on your game a little. No one pushing/rushing you. Great price for a simple round of golf. FRIENDLY STAFF. Very welcoming and helpful.
Thanks for your review. We appreciate your commentary and are so glad that you found value in playing our course. Hope to see you back again soon.
Course needs some TLC. Fairly Easy play for inexperienced golfers. Good price.

challenging
Very challenging course lots of trees must place your shots
Target golf I will play again next time I am in the area must play
We're glad you will be coming back to play golf on our course again. Thanks for your feedback and review.
Thank you for your review! We hope to see you again sometime soon.
Very challenging
Couple greens need some work but they were lightning fast. Very narrow on a lot of holes. Lots of doglegs and all about position off the tee. Not a course for high handicappers. Great value and beautiful layout. Had fun but took a beating!
Thanks for your review, Justin. We appreciate your your feedback and hope to see you again soon!
South 9 holes rough
West 9 was in over all good condition
Thanks for your review. We value your feedback and hope to see you again soon.
Staff was very friendly and helpful. This course is 3 different 9 hole courses put together. The course was in pretty good shape, a few greens had some rough spots on them, but fairways and tee boxes were if pretty good shape for February. Did have to fix a lot of ball marks, dont guess the members or locals are too worried about the greens. Rate of play seemed a little slow but still able to get off the course in 4 hrs. Overall a good course for the price
Thanks for your review. We are so glad our staff met your expectations. Hope to see you again soon!
Solid family course
5 sets of tees allows for all members of family to play Green were solid Pace of play was slow but normal for public golf 4.5 hrs Very flat easy to walk but some durable from green to next tee box overall a fun experience
Thanks for your review. We value your feedback and are glad you had a fun experience. Hope to see you back again soon!
west nine ok. south just goofy
west nine pretty playable with rough 2 to 21/2 inches. penal but you could find it. greens decent. mostly smooth with a few bumpy spots. fairways parched and thin. south nine goofy with rough 4 to 12 inches (i measured a couple spots). fairways ample but miss by a yard and tee a provisional. you won't find 1st ball. i was in middle of several fairways (and left side of one tee box) less than 160 to hole with no shot. trees blocking what looked like a fine tee shot from tee. left after 5 holes and 4 lost balls. just wasn't fun to try to hit from the fairway over trees to blocked greens. dye or hills would be proud.
Rough
Course is in very rough shape. Weeds all over the greens, and a lot of tee boxes were mostly sand.
north and west are pretty easy and forgiving. fairways are parched & thin. rough is 3 or more inches and inconsistant thickness. greens were just ok. some smooth some a bit bumpy. south nine is just goofy. hills or dye would be proud. rough was 4 to 12 inches. i lost four balls in four holes and quit. 3 just off the fairway. found a 5th ball when i stepped on it. laid up to 155 on 2nd hole. middle of fairway. had no shot around a more than 90 degree dogleg. hit a wedge over trees at corner but never found the ball in rough i measured at 12 inches. can't recommend it.
Bumpy greens
South course has a very interesting layout but fairways and approaches were in poor shape. Sad. West Course has fairways in much better condition; layout is longer, wide open and a bit uninspired. Greens on both 9s may be the worse I have ever played. They were bumpy and sparse, as if they had been plugged and not recovered. Very few golfers on course, so pace of play was great.
Not impressed
Greens were in very good shape but fairway rough was just that (rough). Some grass had not been cut in a good while. Driving range was closed due to recent rains. No cart service offered during the weekend. Gas powered carts were very slow. The west course is open and fairly easy to play. The south course has much tighter fairways but had shade which was nice for the 90+ degree day.
Disappointment
Course was in horrible shape. Needs senificate work and money
Good deal
Good value for the $. Played South 9 and West 9. Fairways good greens good. No rough to speak of. Not resort course but not priced as one. Staff was friendly. Nice enough I went back and played again same price as golf now. I'll go back.
This was a great course fir us. Will definitely go back
Great course
We had a great time playing this course. West was long but straight. North was a bit shorter but with many doglegs. I played off the white tees and had a challenge reaching the greens in regulation. Great course for the price!
