I got lucky with a pitching wedge and landed about 15' from the pin. The pin placement this round was tough with holes tight to the front edges. Photo submitted by knichola on 08/19/2013

East/north course
Great course, layout good. The north course is better then the east course. Pace of play was excellent
Very nice, but could not finish the round due to weather…
Actually there is nothing to complaint. Great staff at the bag drop, cordial at the pro shop, start and on course. Tee boxes, fairways and bunkers in very good shape. No problems because of the rainy weather in the past days. Greens are rather fast and due to partly undulation not ease to putt. Pace was excellent. Pity we could not finish the second nine due to rain and storm.
Overall – one of the top places in Orlando – go there. And watch out for hot deals :o)
Put Grand Cypress on your "Orlando Itinerary"
Played here on 2 separate days, during my week long vacation. Should have played 3 times.
Pros:
The value for your dollar (whether on their own website, or another)
The staff seemed genuinely appreciative of my business
The practice facilities (free range included with quality golf balls, and the practice green was more than adequate.)
The course design was challenging, and fun. I experienced elevated greens, deep bunkers with beautiful sand, fescue, forced carries, and rolling greens.
The rough was not too punishing, so you could just grip-it and rip-it most of the time.
Most greens were in great shape, and very large. There were a few greens that looked like they were in need of some TLC, but the pin positions never made that a problem (as long as your approach shot was accurate)
On course water stations, scattered throughout the property.
Cons:
I went to another "BIRD" course owned by a large HOTEL CHAIN, when I should have just played the Grand Cypress "NEW" course instead.
Like previously mentioned, some greens need some TLC, but of the 27 greens I played, I'd estimate only 5-8 showed problems.
The chipping green was on small side, and you had to chip from what I would describe as "the first cut of rough" (not real chipping area laid out, unless you wanted to push your luck and chip from the driving range tee box area), but there was a fair size bunker to practice from.
If I had to nit-pick, I'd love to see GPS like other courses are offering. I had a GPS watch, and the yardage book, so I wasn't in the dark, but I like the peace of mind that comes with a course specific GPS system in the carts.
My biggest perk, and it wouldn't be something that I would expect every guest of Grand Cypress to experience, is that while I was playing my 2nd round of the week, Golf Channel was taping an episode of Golf Channel Academy with Martin Hall. Timing is everything, and as I was on the 18th green, Mr. Hall was riding his cart back to the club house, and I had a chance to have a quick conversation with him. As you can imagine, it was quite amazing to meet a guy who you've been watching on t.v. for years, taking advice from, ride right up past your green. AND - he was polite enough to stop, rather than just ride on by, ignoring his fan(s). Thank you once again Mr. Martin Hall
Tight course
Very nice course. Everything was in great condition. Two complaints though. 1. The course layout is really jammed together. 2. We were one of the first ones off on the east course and never had anyone in front or behind us. After playing the East, we moved to the North where we waited almost 30 minutes to tee off, due to people starting on the north course and it being backed up. Due to that pace of play suffered somewhat. It almost seemed like the course was overbooked or they should not start people off at the same time on different courses. Overall though it's a very nice course and I would recommend.
Beautiful Challenge!
This was our first time on the course and we will definitely be back. Got a good deal on GolfNow which made it a true value. Very challenging layout. Greens were fast, fairways were well cared for. Played it in 4 hours with a foursome. Bring lots of balls!
Dufferdad
Thought we were playing a quality course Not woth it. Signature island green on east course was bad. Some type of grass infection is killing the green. Sadly I can't recommend this course.
Worth It!
Excellent layout and some challenging holes. A typical Nicklaus course with undulations and placement shots. We liked it so much we went back for a second round after playing some great courses in the area. We got the "hot deal" on GolfNow to play at 1:40 and got it in with time to spare in February.
Great course, very playable for the average club golfer
Lovely course, we will be back for another round
Grand Cypress East/North
We had planned a tight schedule relying on the airline (UNITED FYI) to get us to Florida on time. We had 2.5 hours with an airport to course commute of 20-30 minutes. Our flight was of course 2.5 hours late leaving. As the take off kept moving I was in contact with the staff who were very friendly and helpful and they accommodated us and got us right on. Played a different configuration but still had a great time. North course was in better shape than the east in our opinion. Would have enjoyed playing the south instead of east. But UNITED took care of that with a truly inexcusable delay.
OVERALL GREAT EXPERIENCE AT GRAND CYPRESS.
Excellent course
Very enjoyable and challenging.
Great courses, and nice variety of hole layouts
South course is more difficult than the North--but I enjoyed both and already scheduled another round this week! I loved the 2 courses I played (N&S) condition, and the staff keeps things moving well.
Great course
The course and staff were great. Only problem was a slow fore some that was not addressed by the ranger. The round should have been completed in 4.5 hours not 5.
Loved it here
We golfed at the Disney courses, Palm and Magnolia, and we loved the Grand Cypress the most. (Not a Disney course, but close by) Friendly staff, challenging course, great layout. More expensive than the others, but we were on vacation to golf so it was nice to check out the different ones. I list myself as a beginner, but I'm probably more of a pre-intermediate.
DON'T MISS THIS COURSE
First time we've played the 27 hole set up - we got North and South. Outstanding from start to finish. Staff superb, pace of play good. Tees, fairways and greens all in top condition. Play it straight and you're okay - fair amount of water if you don't !
Excellent test
As always in great shape!!!
Greens quick and true!!
Fairways are good height!
Starter very helpful, his 91st birthday today!
Great round
Thoroughly enjoyed the course. We played North/South and it was great. Would definitely return to the course.
Grand Cypress never disappoints
Grand Cypress is always the first course we play when visiting Orlando. The course is beautiful and always in terrific condition. Good for all player levels. Club House food is always delicious too.
Tough Course and Great Conditions...but don't Trust the Scorecard!
They've always kept the course in fine shape. This time was no different. The tees, fairways and greens and in almost perfect shape. It is a shotmaking course that will require accuracy. Now, do not trust the scorecard. I don't know if they've accurately measured the course recently but we found ourselves measuring the distances with rangefinders and found the course to be inaccurately measured - especially the East Course. On some holes, the card understated the distance by up to 30 yards! For example, on the eighth hole, East Course, the card states that from the tips it is 205 yards to the center of the green. The day we played it the flag was in the center of the green and the tees were moved up about 5 yards from the edge of the last tee-box. Both a Busnell and Callaway rangefinder measured the hole at 220 yards.
Still a great course to play, but as stated earlier, take a rangefinder!
Grand Cypress
Excellent setup and value I would definitely recommend.
