Grand Cypress Golf Club - Links Course

Very nice course, I played the "New" course but looks like the have another course as well (or maybe 2?).

Range is included and was in good shape. When you get to the first tee, they have a practice putting green, chipping area and bunker. Nice for a final warm-up before you go out.

Links style course and VERY wide open. Not a lot of rough, some water in front of greens on a few holes. Biggest challenge is the fairway bunkers, some of which are hidden. They have a free app for smartphones that includes a flyover on the holes, so it's a nice tool to see bunkers that may not be visible.

14 of the 18 holes had double greens. Pay attention - yellow flags on the front, white on the back. Greens were a bit slow and had some bad spots - probably from all the rain and a lot of traffic. But still playable and a nice course.

I'm wildly inconsistent with my driver, so it figures that I hit it the best I ever have on the New course with its wide open fairways (on most holes, at least). This course really is top notch from top to bottom. All of the staff we ran into was great, the clubhouse is awe-inspiring, and the course is immaculate. I rarely feel that a $70 round is "worth it" and usually only pay those prices on vacation and chalk it up to the outrageous golf budget, but I'd pay this price - much to my wife's dismay, I'm sure - regularly if I lived nearby. Links style makes it interesting and unique, but this place would be a ton of fun regardless.

Full disclosure: I birdied hole 18, my only birdie of the day, so my wild enthusiasm could be slightly skewed by the good finish!

Go, play, enjoy. Everything about this course is top notch. From the quality and friendly pro shop staff to the smooth greens, this is a beautiful course.

Patterned after The Old Course in Scotland -- the course is in excellent condition, is wide open and very playable. Beware of the pot bunkers throughout the course, and be mindful of the color flag you are hitting to as there are many shared greens.

Loved the course, and the feel of resort. We didn't stay here, but did enjoy the clubhouse, etc. Water and ice was plentiful -- and staff was great. Easy course compared to the other 27 holes here, but it is fun to play.

Nothing like I could have imagined or played before. Probably as close as I'll ever get to playing the Old Course at St. Andrews. I would definitely recommend this course to anyone. Wide open fairways and double greens abound. It's almost like hitting on the driving range and I loved it. Would play again if I get the chance.

Terrible wait each tee box - each hole, 2 groups, hole 10 4 groups, we left and told the pro shop.

Enjoyable day, very windy so makes for long second shots into greens. To many fairway bunkers, esp the pot bunkers. I had trouble with speed of greens, but others were ok with it. Fairways very tight which made chipping around the green difficult, would up putting from of the green more often then not. Only holes one and eighteen copy St. Andrews. probably will not play again, it just didnt have that WOW factor.

Do not play after 2pm!! we did and did not finish til dark at 645....very slow..lots of holes where there are balls from other tee-boxes and other fairways landing all over the place..terrible design with multiple adjoining greens...its wide open and they have 4 fairways where the balls are dropping from every direction,we just about got hit 3 times!! they needed another 50 acres i think for this style,the beer cart quit at 4pm ..would not play again....if you like putting from 100 yards in and not a good chipper this is perfect as they have no rough! We had a group of walkers in front that were carrying cause friends of Pro.!!

A typical Nicholas layout with plenty of difficulties. Unfortunately the carts did not have GPS and the course is poorly marked leaving club selection to a guess. The greens and many fairways had recently been "dresses" with sand. Virtually no staff support at the bag drop to start with. Not worth the $$.

Visited the course end Feb. 2016.

Reserved the teetime through Golfnow. The original reservation was postponed at the club without asking us from the original reserved tee time by ½ hour - could not finish 18 holes due to darkness - very disappointing.

Rented clubs for $65/set. Clubs were outdated and overpriced - cannot recommend.

The range & course were dry and not in good condition, greens were playable but not good.

Service at the caddiemaster/proshop was ok, getting the cart took a look time waiting while other people were serviced, not very happy about this.

All over this course and club did not give a very high class impression, perhaps with better course conditions and service the experience could have been more up to expectations. Cannot see how this course has received the raitings they have.

Do not recommend.

Played south and east nines. Did not play the New course which is a links type design. The south and east nines were very nice

The New course is a copy of the Old Course at St Andews in respect of the links type layout, including concealed burns and bunkering and large double greens, the course presented in excellent condition. It is in every respect a good challenge for competent golfers particularly from the blue tees at just under 6900 yards and although there is plenty of driving room, the approach shots are challenging. The design presents a most untypical Florida course. Being a Brit and having played the Old at St Andrews, I can advise that it is impossible to replicate the rugged charm of the real thing here in Florida. The real thing is enveloped by the "Auld Grey Toon" at the start and finish with views of St Andrews Bay and is pounded by wind and rain much of the time, yet mostly the ground is firm and the ball runs.

However, the New offers a glimpse of links golf and if you want a different challenge and excellent conditioning, then I can highly recommend that you visit the New.

The clubhouse, staff and facilities are excellent so a visit here should prove highly enjoyable.

Lovely links course in Florida. Tee boxes flattest I have ever played. Group in front were very slow on the greens that is my only complaint. Started at 1.30 and managed to complete our round. Excellent practice facilities. Will be back.

Course was fair but tough

Played the new course. The 1st time playing links golf course, it was fun and confusing many of the fairways and greens were combine people from different holes on your fairway. But overall a good time it seemed like the British open wind was high and gusting.Will play it again on a calmer day.

What an excellent experience and golf course at Grand Cypress. Played the New Course twice and both times the experience and conditions were great. Everyone treats like a member and the facility and conditions are what you would expect from a Jack Nicklaus Signature Course. I think the course is best summed up by the Scottish gentleman who played behind me. Standing on the 18th tee I finally asked...what do you think of Jacks tribute to St. Andrews? He said "You see what is in front of you? This is a replica of number 1 and 18 at St Andrews." He went on to say it is "the best representation of a Scottish course that he has played in the United States...with one exception: the greens and the fairways would be harder in Scotland." He wasn't used to softer conditions in the fairways and on the greens. Worth the money to play such a nice course.

I had booked a tee time at 8 am on Saturday thru GolfNOw. I paid my green fee, warmed up on the range, proceeded to the 1st tee of the New Course at 7:50 in anticipation of my round. I met the starter, who informed me that my tee time had been changed to 8:30. I decided that was not acceptable and asked for a refund. No apologies for not notifying me when they changed my time, and they were quite adamant that the "fine print" of the GolfNow site allows them to do that, but I did finally receive a refund. Subsequently was told by Dir of Golf that you should call ahead if you book with GolfNow to assure your team time. There's a lot of good options in Orlando, and I prefer courses that treat me as valued customer vs. revenue source. A shame as I do like this course from previous play.

New Course (should be called Old Course, with the British Isles links design) is so much fun to play. The putting greens are probably the hardest thing to get used to, and if you can escape without a 3putt (or even a 4putt on someplacements), you'll probably come away with a great score. Your round starts with a service-oriented ProShop & starters are very informative; everybody insists on you having fun & enjoying the Orlando sunshine. Keep your ball out of pot bunkers, and the "burn" of #1, 8 (my only lost ball in the hazard), & 10 .............and you'll do pretty well. All the courses at Grand Cypress are impecable, and arrive early to take advantage of an excellant Golf Academy facilitty. The New Course layout is foregiving, huge landing areas for fairways & greens, which usually requires an extra club just to carry the "false fronts." Cart girl makes her rounds regularly, so there is nothing to complain about ---except that DbleBogie #8.

i have found a new favorite course in Orlando. Wide open spaces and good for both beginners and experienced golfers.
