Booking through the apps
I use golf logix to book the golf now reservation. It did not tell me if I was being charged for 18 or nine holes . When I when on the golf now app itidentified I was playing 18 holes.
An ok course with lots of water
The course itself in comparison to all other courses I play (I'm from central Ohio) ranks mostly in the middle of the bunch.
First off, I ran over a broken up beer bottle in the parking lot (no flat thankfully). Had to walk a quarter mile to get to the club house, but the course allowed us to take our carts to the parking lot. Since I made my tee time on GolfNow I was unaware of league play going out just before us. It took 2 hours 45 minutes to play the front in which I was not pleased. Fortunately for us leagues only play 9 holes. Why the starter didn't send us off on the back 9 is beyond me... especially a twosome. Played the back nine in only an hour and fifteen minutes.
Tee boxes were ok, fairways had very little grass, greens were like thick carpet and slow, but not to bad. Be prepared to hit a few in the water if you've never played this course. I think maybe 15 holes will have some kind of water hazard.
Tough little course
Played on a Sunday afternoon. Foursome in front of us cancelled so we figured it would be a fast round. Was pretty good till the back 9, then people started coming on the course who were not booked. Not a ranger in sight. This is a decent short course - front nine is kind of tricked up, but the back nine is a really nice layout. Lots of water on the front, not so much on the back but still enough to cause trouble. Course rewards accuracy, not length. Greens were terrific, consistent and rolled true. Very tricky to read; added at least 6 strokes to my score. Would have bumped them a star but the play on the back nine was slow as molasses - my pet peeve. Very friendly staff, place is clean. Appears the bar/restaurant across from the pro shop is a happening place! This course is heavily played, so expect to wait awhile while playing. Many hackers come here, and they don't belong on this course.....
Not What I Expected Based On Other Reviews
I booked this round on behalf of my foursome and it was a mistake. Our group usually plays a couple times a month (not an option on this review). We try not to get in a rut and like to try new courses.
Pros: The staff was kind and friendly, although unfortunately only one person tends both the course registration AND the snack shop. The greens were in great shape, though not very much undulation. Beer and snack prices were very reasonable.
Cons: Just not in overall good shape. Hard to tell the difference between the tee boxes, fairways and the rough as there is little, and sometimes, no grass at all. Much of it is just brown hardpan. Sand is not great either, light sand over hard earth...pick clean option best in many bunkers. From my experience, there are several courses right in this vicinity that charge only a few dollars more but are lightyears more worth it.
Long day
The starter let a crew of 7 having a bachelor party start off before us. They would t let us go off on 10 which was open. By the time they were off the first tee there were 4 twosomes waiting. We joined up with the group behind us which was no problem since we knew we were going to be waiting all day. I don’t mind slow play but a 5+ hour round was not pleasant. I won’t go back till summer when the crowds thin out.
No snow
Beautiful day to play with my Indiana friend. course is in great shape, especially the greens.
THIS COURSE IS STEADILY INPROVING
THE GREENS ARE THE MOST NOTICEABLE IMPROVEMENT TO ME, THEY SEEM TO BE MORE CONSISTENT AND BETTER MANICURED.
Getting better
The course is getting a lot of work done. Tee boxes with better turf, new sand in bunkers. Greens were nice, but a little bumpy. I love the challenge of this course. Tight fairways, a lot of punch shots out of the trees and a lot of water on play. You have to hit shots, fade/draw, etc. placement off the tee is key. Staff is always friendly and great restaurant across the street for after the round. The course is worth a hot deal, but it will humble your game if your not playing well.
Good day
A friend and I played this course for the first time and were pleased. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Course was it good condition and marked well for first-timers. And a view of the ocean - what could be better?!? We will return
Fun
This course was fun and very fair. It is especially friendly from the red tees, so be fore warned if you are playing a match game with your wife. Unfortunately the greens were very slow and needed to be cut when we played: they were in good shape just shaggy. Great value and we will go back.
Much improved
Played this course last year and it is much improved. Greens have always been in good shape. Tee boxes much improved and sand traps mostly in good shape. Fun round.
Changes in process
I play this course often, and just saw new sand being added to the traps. The course was in good shape.
Great value
Turtle Creek is a challenging but inexpensive course. Great value compared to other local courses.
requires some course management
Some tight fairways but overall enjoyable course to play. Greens were a little slow but rolled true.
View of the ocean?! I think this review is not for turtle creek
