Rare Rainy Day in Las Vegas
First time here, and I was pleasantly surprised. When I say it was wet, I really mean we got lightly rained on for maybe 4 or 5 holes, but not enough to where we wanted to quit for the day.
It seems there is a lot of improvements made over the course. Having said that, there is room for more in my opinion, but I think they are working on it. There are a couple of greens that are in rough shape with bare spots, but you can tell that they have been working on them.
The greens today were playing slow. They were what I would describe as furry. They just finished over-seeding and haven't mowed them down to where they usually do. One of my issues that I have is that they charge you for a small bucket of balls to warm up with.
Overall I enjoyed my round here. If it wasn't so far away from me, I might play here more regularly.
Yikes
For a while green fees at this course were down to 30 bucks due to some maintenance issues and really poor greens conditions. I saw that the price was back up to 50 bucks so I decided to book a time ( assuming that the course was in an improved condition). This was far from the case. Fairways are 100% brown, bunkers are filled with rocks and are unplayable, the greens are in terrible shape as well. I’ve played on recently aerated greens that rolled smoother than these. They also had a sign at the course saying they are “preparing to reseed” and that the course would closed on Wednesday. Raising the price when you are “preparing to reseed” seems like a blatant scam especially when people book tee times online and this information isn’t on your website.. Hoping this place comes under new management soon. It was such a nice course when I was a kid and has a beautiful layout but it is being run into the ground, on track to becoming a housing development like black mountain or royal links in town.
Bad start bad round
Starter was not on top of his duties. I’m less than 10 min from my t-time and there is 2 foursomes waiting on the 1 st T. I should have walked away.
The first nine holes I had to wait on the box for the group ahead to go. I’m fine with it, it’s golf and I’m having a good round.
Then comes the marshal breathing down my neck for slow play. I’m on their heels how much faster can I go! At this point I’m now angry at the marshal, which is compounded by him pushing our group on next hole.
Ther are golfers on the green, par 3 mind you. I’m not about to hit onto them. I return to the club house and call it a day.
Hidden Gem
First time I played this course and I’ve lived in Henderson for 8 years now. Staff is super friendly and course is excellent for beginners through intermediate. The course is well laid out and no hidden holes.
Below Average conditions
Fun course for a solo afternoon golf. Not recommended if I was entertaining friends. Putting green is horrible and layered with crab grass. Not a true roll. Guessing 7-8 on the Stimp meter. Very slow. The pathway from hole to hole is terrible. Crack sidewalks every other holes. I’m guessing limited $$ reiinvested.
The greens needed to be fixed they were dirt patches and weeds all over them, but the fairway and course layout is very nice!!!
Irrigation is Back
This course is getting better. Due to the irrigation system being out earlier in the summer, it was not too great to putt on any of the greens. Most of the greens are responding well to the hard work that the caretakers. Henceforth, the lower green fees. But, all in all worth the price I paid to play 18 holes.
Depends on maintenance
It's a residential course, but it's not narrow. There are mountain views on some holes. The layout is good. There are blind shots, doglegs, bunkers spanning the front of the green, downhill holes, lots of small hills to challenge you. Not easy.
It's in a great location. There's a grass range, and a nice bar/grill and patio. They space tee times out 10 minutes. There's plenty of rough on the course. The rates are reasonable. Water bottles were provided, you could order food at the turn. The course seemed like it was getting enough water. The tee boxes were cut short.
At the moment the greens are bad. It's going to close for over-seeding in a week and hopefully they can significantly improve the conditions of the greens, remove the crab grass from the fairway/around the greens, and the dirt patches in the fairways. I didn't hit out of the bunkers - my feet were not leaving any imprints when I walked in them.
There is absolutely potential here for this course to be good. Just not sure how much money Maalouf/Haddad are willing to put into the course, given their intent is to turn it into homes in 13 years.
Course under construction
This course is in need of some serious attention. The greens were pretty marked up and a lot of holes need to be reseeded. Having said that, they have a closure in the works to let the seed take and the course recover. It was crazy cheap and worth the $$$. Will come back for sure this spring. Also the staff was really nice and friendly.
Forgive the course conditions, they do a great job
I’ve played this course twice in the last year, always a good experience. A couple months ago the course had a water main break and they couldn’t water the course for about 2 weeks. Terrible shape after, and needs some time to recover.
That explained why I started seeing $30 early AM tee times on GolfNow; I read the reviews to find out why and waited it out until the course could bounce back a little. I finally booked a tee time, $33, 7:50am, and came in with low expectations.
As far as the course goes, glad I waited but it was in really solid shape. The front nine could have fooled me entirely - the rough was healthy, the fairways bright green, greens generally smooth, and as much brown as you’d expect from any Vegas-area course in late August.
The back nine is clearly where the course took the biggest hit, but work was obviously in progress and, more importantly, making progress. Back 9 conditions were nothing worse than tolerable, especially for $33. A few black sand patches on the greens don’t bother me.
But what made the real difference, where $33 felt like a steal despite the bad conditions, was the experience. They take good care of you and clearly know they’ve gotta make up for the course a little bit. They do the simple things well.
• Rounds starting on time every 10 minutes.
• Club rags in every cart, and the nice tees for free.
• Grass range with affordable buckets.
• Practice areas in tip top shape.
• Ranger passed us every 2-3 holes and did a great job keeping pace.
• 3 cart girl encounters, and she made a mean Transfusion.
The entire operation front to back is exactly what a public-but-still-a-country-club course should be, and I’m going to be back even when they’re back to full price. This course has had a tough history and seems to be making big progress even with a momentary setback, with room to grow that I’m sure they’ll grow into.
Tough course conditions
Due to a problem with a broken water line, the course was in tough shape. After the repair the course was starting to recover. The staff was so nice and apologetic for the condition of the course. We will definitely return.
Great Value Following Recent Water Main Break
Played this course for the first time on a Saturday morning and was eager to learn why it was so cheap and why such the recent harsh reviews. Upon arriving to the pro shop, the super friendly guy behind the counter explained they had a sudden main water line break during July that left them unable to water the course for two weeks, which is why the course is currently in rough shape. However, since then, you can easily tell they have made progress towards getting this course back to normal. Will definitely be back in August while it’s only $30 and will be back after their planned seeding end of Sept early Oct.
Before reseed
Got a super discount rate for a 7am tee time. I knew the. Course was getting reseeded and knew course wasn't going to be prestige. For the price it was great to get my sticks out and hit the ball.
