Lakes/Sunrise at Spanish Trail Country Club
About
Opened in 1984, Spanish Trail Country Club is one of Las Vegas' oldest golf courses. The club offers 27 holes divided into three unique nines that are played in different 18-hole combinations. The entire golf course is filled with tree-lined fairways, undulating hills, and sparkling lakes but each nine offers a distinct environment. The Lakes/Sunrise Course is the shortest of the three combinations at 6,957 yards. The aptly named Lakes nine has water coming into play on six holes. Golfers should be prepared for several forced carries as well as water guarding the greensides on five holes. The fifth hole on the Sunrise nine was ranked as one of the toughest holes on the PGA Tour back in the late 80s when the club hosted the Las Vegas Invitational. The back nine also has plenty of water, most notably on its signature final hole, which features a scenic waterfall.

Par 3 - Spanish Trail Photo submitted by Bissonpa on 11/26/2012
Quality Golf for the price
The first 9 we played were struggling; however, the next 2 9's were in really good shape. The Lakes 9 had an amazing back-to-back par 5 & 3 that were the coolest tandem of holes I've ever played. Beautiful and challenging, really fun.
Great Shape and fair to average golfer
I was really surprised with the width of the fairways so I did not have to play target golf. The people working there were all very nice and the deal that I got through golfnow was fantastic.
Poor Pace of Play
My dad and I went out there on a Friday morning to play a round to celebrate his birthday. We started on Sunrise and the pace of play was a little slow but not too bad and the course was in good shape. We got some sandwiches after finishing Sunrise and headed over to Canyon to finish our round. The first tee at Canyon was backed up 3 groups deep and the pace of play never got any better. After playing 7 holes in 3 hours, as a twosome nonetheless, we had to leave due to some other commitments. To pay a decent amount and not even be able to finish a round in 5+ hours is pretty awful. Add on top of that the fact that Canyon was in bad shape, it made for an all around bad experience.
Fabulous Golf
Booked last minute so price was excellent value. Staff very friendly. Excellent pace of play. Played Sunrise / Canyon. Sunrise course excellent. Canyon not overseeded, but still very good. Forward tees were women friendly. Highly recommended course to play in Las Vegas.
Buyer Beware - Course Charges $5 Extra Fee
Played the Lakes and Canyon courses. The Lake course was in excellent condition but the Canyon course was in terrible shape. Maintenance is being totally ignored and I am surprised the surrounding homeowners have allowed this situation to continue. Surprise! Surprise! Surprise! Even though I had booked an advance rate on GolfNow, the course required me to pay an additional $5 fee per person for water bottles, GPS, towels and tees in the cart. Had I known of this policy beforehand, I would not have booked a tee time here as a matter of principle. Needless to say, I will not be returning.
Canyon Course is Horrible Condition
I come to Vegas every year and always take customers out for golf. I've been to Spanish Trail three times before and it's been a good experience/value. But this year, the Canyon course is in horrible condition -- think cow pasture. The Sunrise course was much better but by the time we made the turn onto it, my customers were already disappointed in the experience. The shop did not warn us when we checked in. So I paid a premium price (it's not cheap) for a lousy experience. Very disappointed. Skip Spanish Trails until they can right the ship.
Times have changed
Nice course but beware they have a surcharge for balls... Water... And get this gps...lol... 5 dollars per player... I think spirit airlines bought the course
Really enjoyed the course
Played as a single and met a member on the range who was nice enough to show me around the course. Really enjoyed the course layout and condition. Challenging but very fair. Staff was very nice and accommodating.
Spanish Trails
Windy day but always a good time if you can get on this course. Great course and speed of play was perfect. A somewhat forgiving course for those of us who need the help.
Real nice course
Played Canyon/Lakes and we had a blast!! Canyon course needs a little love but the Lakes course was in great shape. Got a great deal thru golfnow $35 for course that is normally $60 for locals. Beer prices are way overpriced tho $32 for 4 cans of budlight was unacceptable. Would definitely play there again but will bring our own beer next time
Disappointing condition
Course was a great design but Canyons was in poor condition.
Lakes 9 was in better condition.
Mixed review and Surprize Fees
Played the Canyon and Lake courses. Greens were great on both. Lake course was in excellent condition and the Canyon course was not. We had an early tee time and went out as a twosome so we had no problems with the pace of play. The biggest frustration was that we had booked a pay in advance rate and then when we arrived we were told that we needed to pay an additional $10 for the water bottles, and GPS in our cart and use of the range. What can you do at that point? They already had our money for the round so we paid the additional surprise fee. For this reason alone, I will not return here to play. No one likes additional surprise fees when you have pre paid for your round of golf.
Great attention to detail
Great shape, My wife and I had a great time. Excellent value
A Tale of Two Sides
First of all I think the starter/pro shop guy must have broken up with his girlfriend the night before. Definitely lacking in personality. Also, their starting system leaves a lot to be desired. There are 3 nines and they just basically point a direction and say go. When I got to the tee box no one knew who was playing with who. The Canyon course was in very bad shape but the Lakes was well maintained.
Nice Club
Course was in nice condition. Sunrise/Lakes. Greens were quick and true. Paid less than $90 to play thru golfnow.
Unexpected charge
i had played this course several times in the last year and I really like the course. Overall it is in very nice condition with the exception that the Canyon nine is not overseeded and watered so there are a lot of brown patches. I actually really enjoy playing the course but unfortunately, because of my experience this time, I will not be going back. When I make a reservation on Golfnow and prepay online, I am told that there will be no monies expected to be paid at the course except for any beverages of course and possibly range balls. This course had always provided range balls as part of the reservation fee. Not this time. Upon checking in, I was told that there would be a $5.00 charge for range balls and water on the cart and that this charge was mandatory. In other words, even if I did not want to drink the water, or I brought my own which I sometimes do, I had to pay for theirs. Even if I did not want warm up on the range I had to pay for the range balls. At times I spend money like a drunken sailor and have no problem paying for anything I want. The $5.00 was not a huge thing but the fact that I HAD NO CHOICE IN PAYING IT really irritated me. I won't be going back over a lousy $5.00 mandatory charge.
Watch out for Canyon Course Conditions!
This course has 3 nines. We had a wonderful front nine on the Sunrise course. But we were assigned to the Canyon course for the back nine and it was all dormant Bermuda and horrible. The starter and pro-shop did not give any hint of the terrible condition. We passed play on the Lakes course and the conditions looked beautiful. I cannot imagine why we were charged full price for these conditions and I fault the disingenuous golf shop for not giving us a heads up. I would recommend the course if they fixed this problem.
Friday Round at Spanish Trail
As a local, you always jump on the opportunity to play a private course here in Las Vegas. Courses like Spanish Trail pop up for public play every once in a while. The course is always in great shape, staff are friendly, and the course is always challenging no matter how many times you might have played it. Its a must at least one time for both local or visitors alike. You won't be disappointed.
Lakes Course Worth Playing
Lakes course (9 holes) was challenging and beautiful, and the course was in excellent condition. I would recommend it to anyone. I played it in tandem with the Canyon course (9 holes), which was not in nearly as nice condition, (even though they are adjoining courses) which would be a nice course if it was in better condition. A lot of the grass on the Canyon course was dormant, while the Lakes course was plush+...hard to figure...
Awesome
Been here just over a year best course yet. Loved it .. Thanks
Canyon very good??? You've got to be kidding. I've never played a course in a worst condition. Maybe you didn't play recently? Hopefully others don't play this course on recommendation. Canyon should be closed.
