One of the pioneers in Las Vegas golf, Painted Desert Golf Course is a 1987 Jay Morrish design has golfers shooting at targets in the desert.

Painted Desert has maintained its place in the Sin City golf community through all its changes by putting on an emphasis on course conditioning. Just because your greens are almost two decades old does not mean they cannot be in better shape than many of the new kids on the block.

The desert is the focus here, but Morrish also works in a few lakes as obstacles.

"This golf course is a very friendly layout and you can score here without having a feeling of imminent doom on every hole," John Scappatura said. "We are a bit off of the beaten path, which means that we almost always have availability for tee times. Everyone who does make the trip out here though appreciates our conditioning, the price, and the friendly atmosphere."

Worst course in Vegas

For the price charged, you would think they would have a course Marshall run around every now and then to keep play moving. There is no excuse at all to allow play to stack up 3 groups to a hole by the 3rd hole and let that continue through the rest of the round for a 5 hour round. If negative numbers were an option for ratings, pace of play would be a -3. Course conditions were poor as well. Just off the fairways is almost just dirt with only a very little bit of scrappy grass for the first cut on most holes and most often you are chipping from dirt around the green. And finally, to see the cart girl only ONCE in a 5 hour round is completely ridiculous! The course us definitely not worth the money and I would not recommend it to anyone!

The course was in good condition, but pace of play was horrible. No marshall to speed things along. Took 4 hours and 50 minutes to play sixteen holes. We'd finally had enough and went in, there were still six groups ahead of us in last two holes. Saw drink cart on three and never again.

Disappointed

Course was in tough shape, very disappointed the rough was not over seeded, any shot rolling off the fairway rolled in to the desert, which caused the course to play very narrow. Much of the dormant grass was hard pack and mud. Was very disappointed overall.

Tough course

We came down from the north for a weekend of golf. We played 111 holes in 3 days. I thought this course was the toghest both for the layout and the condition of the course. Fairways are narrow, and if you weren't on the fairway it played tough! Idk, I don't want to completely blame the course, but for the price there were other courses in better shape.

Fun course

The staff was friendly and the course had a good layout. The greens were fast but were in good shape. The fairways were in good but the rough was brown which might be normal during this type of the year in vegas. I would play at this course again if I’m in the area.

A Little Help Please?

Playing at 11:27am on a Saturday is not the best time, but a 5 hr round waiting on EVERY shot is brutal. So the Marshall drives the course, comes by 2-3 times and says nothing. What made it worse were the two guys ahead of us who teed off twice on almost every hole. Are 10’s ok? Of course they are but keep moving. This group never was ready on any shot and didn’t seem to care.

Sometimes we all need a kick or too- isn’t that the marshal’s key function?

Not going back for a while; ruined our day. Greens were very nice however, cudos to ground crew!

Perfect weather

tough course but nice

I'm not one for enjoying tight fairways and condos/houses lining the fairways but had a great time. It's a very upscale munii that borders a resort course. Driving range is sub par but course is great. Cart path is very fragmented so drove on the course to save the bumps. It's the last vestiges of winter most of the course is still dormant. Would love to play it in full bloom. still had fun. Cheapish beer for on course (paid the same for 6 as i did two at Bali hai).

Pretty Nice

It was a little slow but expected on a Saturday and perfect weather. Greens and fairway were excellent. Sand is a little course. outside fairways the dead grass will be better this summer as it is dormant now. Just makes the fairways a little narrow. Didn't like dead grass in some grass bunkers around greens. Either have green grass or fill with sand. I will be back at this price or less. Not a $100/round course. The desert area and backs of many houses not the best view.

Very slow and bunkers unkept

Had to search and search for someone to get us a cart. Finally found someone and it took them a long time to bring one because they couldn’t find a charged one. Was five minutes after my tee time was supposed to start before they even got me a cart, and I arrived 45 minutes prior to my tee time. Turned out it didn’t really matter because they allow people without a tee time to just jump on whenever they choose, backing everyone up.

The pace of the games was so slow, waiting long times between holes. We teed off at 1239 and had to quit at 530 without even starting the 18th hole.

The greens and fairways were fairly well kept, but the bunkers were very hard, sometimes just gravel.

Quite expensive for just an average course. Every hole seemed to be about the same layout, straight and narrow with no interest.

Not a fan

We hadn’t played there in a couple years so decided to give it another shot. Now we remember why we haven’t been back in a while. Not a fan of the layout, long desert patches before fairway, or overall course conditions. And goose poop on the greens. Friendly staff though. I guess this is why we were able to book a tee time last minute on a Sunday. Lot’s of openings for a reason.
