Painted Desert Golf Club
About
One of the pioneers in Las Vegas golf, Painted Desert Golf Course is a 1987 Jay Morrish design has golfers shooting at targets in the desert.
Painted Desert has maintained its place in the Sin City golf community through all its changes by putting on an emphasis on course conditioning. Just because your greens are almost two decades old does not mean they cannot be in better shape than many of the new kids on the block.
The desert is the focus here, but Morrish also works in a few lakes as obstacles.
"This golf course is a very friendly layout and you can score here without having a feeling of imminent doom on every hole," John Scappatura said. "We are a bit off of the beaten path, which means that we almost always have availability for tee times. Everyone who does make the trip out here though appreciates our conditioning, the price, and the friendly atmosphere."

I actually birdied this short par 4 ... now my favorite hole! Photo submitted by Wally4 on 02/01/2013
Ho hum design
The fairways and greens were in great condition. The layout is too redundant and it seems like you play the same holes over and over. Nothing special as far as views.
Decent course.
The course is narrow. Be ready to hit a lot of shots off a rocky terrain. No real yardage markers and no gps in carts. They need updating. Extremely friendly and great greet staff. Course is in good shape great cart girl service
Thanks
Ross
Painted Desert
Tee boxes/fairways and greens all in good shape. Green side bunkers were unplayable-rock hard and very little dirt/sand. Otherwise pretty enjoyable round. Weather was perfect. Would recommend.
Very good course conditions
The Superintendent and his crew deserve a great applause!
There were no weeds to be seen on the tee boxes, rough, fairways or greens! The grasses looked very healthy and green, while it is expected that the outer rough is seasonally browning.
The lady at the bar/resto was very courteous and hard working, and the young man behind the pro shop counter was very welcoming and efficient!we
Very well kept and beautiful course.
The only thing that I would recommend is if there would have been a starter or Marshall on the course to create some consistency with the pace of play. We were about 30 minutes over a normal round due to slow play ahead of us. Other than that it was absolutely wonderful.
Great course to play golf
Nice to see the course doing some landscaping that will improve and attracts more golfers. The greens is nice but the pace of play is really slow. Just need the Marshalls out there to keep the pace moving.
I was the first one out I did have to golf alone but I did the round in less than four hours. The greens were in very good shape as was the fairway enjoyed the day immensely.
first time
Great layout and the staff is the best
Disappointed that the usb ports didn't function. My the tee boxes are in need of attention as well.
Still a good value and fun course.
6 hour round without the extra time needed to replace our cart twice
We had a 12:21pm tee time that we had to prepay for upon arriving at 1130 we were told they were charging carts and would get us one before our tee time. At 1230 we still didn’t have a cart, we finally got one and teed off at 1240. 6 holes into our round while having to wait on every shot our cart died and we had to push it for two holes before they brought us another one which had what looked like low air in one of the tires they said it was fine and it will get us though our round but in reality when we got to the 12th hole the tire was flat and the cart dead but we couldn’t push it with a flat tire the other guys in our group went on and we said we would meet them when they brought us a new cart, no one answered in the pro shop that we had to call the restaurant. When they finally got us a cart 30 minutes later our group was only one hole ahead of where our cart died. They people who brought us the carts never apologized and made it like we were inconveniencing them while we were the people paying to be there and getting stuck twice. We finally finished our round at 630pm as it was getting dark. This course used to have a fantastic management team last year but now I won’t be playing there ever again.
No parking and brutal pace of play
For the record, I play about 60 rounds in a year, at a variety of courses all over the country. First, I have never experienced a course with no parking available. I had to park across the street in a business park. a bit rediculous. Second out of the rounds I have played this year this course had the worst pace of play I’ve ever seen. There is no starter managing people off the first tee, and no rangers to help people along. On par 3s at least one group on the green and two foursomes waiting to tee off. Par 4s one group on the green, one in the fairway, two groups on the tee box, same for par 5s. I paid for 18, but after it took 3 hours for nine holes I bagged it and walked off, just no rhythm to the round, just hit and wait golf.
The greens and fairways were in decent shape. No consistency with the sand in the bunkers. Out of the three I was in, two were hard as a rock, the third soft. I’m in town on vacation, and would not play here again, and not recommend the course. Very disappointed after spending $109, a bit crazy what they charge non-residents in Vegas, won’t waste my money here again.
Great conditions, terrible pace of play
Another courses spitting out tight tee times, letting 30+ handicaps play from the tips. 1220 tee time, finished at exactly 6pm. When we got to the tee at 1215 there was a 2 group line. We hit at 1245. No marshals anywhere. When we were on the 17th tee waiting to hit there were probably 3 full groups driving by to go back to parking lot as they gave up waiting. Having said that the course was great.
Conditions were wonderful, greens were perfect and great speeds. Bunkers were actually sand and playable. When we weren't waiting to hit it was a fun course to play on.
My beef with all these courses spitting out 7 or 10 minute tee times is that they keep the tips in play. 99% of golfers out there should never be hitting farther than the middle tees, and the argument can probably be made that most should hit from the fronts. It's insane seeing so many people drive 210 from the tips.
Great experience
This course is a GEM. Well maintained from tees to greens. The view is spectacular and the course is challenging but fair. Will recommend it and definitely will play again.
Beautiful golf course and facilities
This was my first time playing golf in Las Vegas area, and couldn't be a better impression by playing this course. Well maintained, the greens were in excellent condition and constant speed. Definitely will recommend it and will play here again.
