Painted Desert Golf Club
About
One of the pioneers in Las Vegas golf, Painted Desert Golf Course is a 1987 Jay Morrish design has golfers shooting at targets in the desert.
Painted Desert has maintained its place in the Sin City golf community through all its changes by putting on an emphasis on course conditioning. Just because your greens are almost two decades old does not mean they cannot be in better shape than many of the new kids on the block.
The desert is the focus here, but Morrish also works in a few lakes as obstacles.
"This golf course is a very friendly layout and you can score here without having a feeling of imminent doom on every hole," John Scappatura said. "We are a bit off of the beaten path, which means that we almost always have availability for tee times. Everyone who does make the trip out here though appreciates our conditioning, the price, and the friendly atmosphere."

I actually birdied this short par 4 ... now my favorite hole! Photo submitted by Wally4 on 02/01/2013
Extremely Slow Play
Started on the back 9 (10-18) and breezed through in about one hour and 40 minutes. When I got to the front 9 (hole #1) there were three groups on the hole. Play virtually stopped. After taking an hour to complete hole 3 I got to #4, a par 5 and there were 4 groups at the hole and could see the group on the next tee. I gave up and went back to the club house. Asked for a refund for 9 holes and was told to email the manager. Plenty of better courses in area to play.
Painted
Course layout and conditions were awesome. We are from out of state so we paid nearly double the value of this course for non-resident rate.
We played behind the Wednesday mens club, who for the most part the mens club played fast, but the last group of them did not. They were 3 holes behind by hole 6. We tried to get by and ended up skipping hole 10 in order to do so. After that it was smooth and we played the back nine in under 90 minutes. We usually have this course in our selection to play each time we visit Vegas, but wont play it again.
Behind schedule
Our tee time was at 1215 we arrived at the course around 12pm we didnt even get put cart until after 1pm didnt get off the first tee until 130 needless to say we didnt finish our round very disappointed
Narrow course / not in bad shape for a local course.
We showed up a little early.
Hit some balls on the bumpy driving range.
No place to practice chip on this course.
Putting area was in great condition.
Carts were average, nothing fancy.
Tee boxes were lumpy.
Women’s / senior tees dont get much advantage.
Very narrow fairways.
Greens were very nice except the customers don’t fix their divots.
Overall, a very nice and challenging course as long as you keep the ball straight!.
beautiful lay out
The course was challenging and long. Definitely needed to hit the green areas. The dead pan was not friendly. Some of the holes were breath taking. The practice area was busy. The greens were fast. We enjoyed playing this course and would definitely make it another stop in our vacation again.
Fun Course But...
The course was in good shape and the service was tremendous but they definitely need more golf carts.
People were waiting for carts to play which in turn caused a rather long wait on the #1 Tee box. Our 12:00 tee time turned into a 12:45 start. Ultimately, we had to walk off the course because of darkness and didn't finish the round.
Nice course but...
Excellent course but lacked golf carts. Players were waiting for other golfers to finish their rounds so that golf carts could be used. Tee times fell behind which caused us to not be able to finish our round on account of darkness.
Painted dessert strikes again
Range closed again. Glad I got all my stuff out, shoes on and ready to go. Balls all over the range. Not a single sign anywhere saying the range is closed.
Yuk
course in poor shape. Lots of weeds and dead grass. Slow greens and ugly mounds of dirt everywhere. House right on top of players. The cart girl was very nice. No chipping area either and the range is a mix of green and dirt. Absolute waste of $100
Friendly staff
Maria at the bar was superb. Food was great. General manager Bryan went out of his way to greet me and make sure all was good. Great day at Painted Desert
