One of the pioneers in Las Vegas golf, Painted Desert Golf Course is a 1987 Jay Morrish design has golfers shooting at targets in the desert.

Painted Desert has maintained its place in the Sin City golf community through all its changes by putting on an emphasis on course conditioning. Just because your greens are almost two decades old does not mean they cannot be in better shape than many of the new kids on the block.

The desert is the focus here, but Morrish also works in a few lakes as obstacles.

"This golf course is a very friendly layout and you can score here without having a feeling of imminent doom on every hole," John Scappatura said. "We are a bit off of the beaten path, which means that we almost always have availability for tee times. Everyone who does make the trip out here though appreciates our conditioning, the price, and the friendly atmosphere."

Likely the worst course I’ve ever played

This course shouldn’t be allowed to take money. I’ve never played a course that is this poorly maintained. No grass, horrible overseer, bumpy lumpy greens and huge rocks in the bunkers. Not to mention the duck and goose crap EVERYWHERE...and I mean everywhere. I’m from Arizona and my wife and I play at a lot of courses both in AZ and Las Vegas. This is by far the worst course we’ve ever played in Las Vegas.

Challenging

I really liked this course. Different from other courses in town. Several different setups and narrow fairways. You can’t screw around here. You must hit your fairways or else!! Challenging and fun. One bad thing that others have posted. The cart path is horrible. The worst I’ve seen!! I should have taken my 4X4 instead of the cart. Beware of that. Otherwise great course, I’ll be back.

Poor condition

I don't know about other time.

When I played, the golf course was totally devastated.

The fairway was all dead and dried.

Didn’t honor tee time

When we arrived for a 12:43 tee time they told us they were 46 minutes late they ran out of carts. I ask for a refund and would not give us one. I don’t know why they wouldn’t. They offered us a rain check only. NOT HAPPY!

Nice Course At A Good Price

If you can get this course for under $50 in the Winter, you are getting a very good deal. Not quite as nice as the most upscale courses, but still pretty nice.

Nice Course, Poor timing

Great course, however I had a poor experience the day we played.

We arrived about 20 minutes early to putt and check in. The front desk said there is a bit of a wait for carts and that our tee time may be a little farther behind. We said that is fine and asked if we could be given a small bucket of balls to hit while we wait as a consolation. We were denied and paid for them instead. We had a 12:15 tee time and was not on the first time until 1pm. This long wait was also accommodated with a slow pace of play due to stacking of groups due to a lack of carts I presume. Unfortunately our should-have-been 18 hole round turned into a 15 hole round due to lack of daylight.

Great course, just a poor experience due to lack of carts and pace of play. :/

Extremely Slow Play

Started on the back 9 (10-18) and breezed through in about one hour and 40 minutes. When I got to the front 9 (hole #1) there were three groups on the hole. Play virtually stopped. After taking an hour to complete hole 3 I got to #4, a par 5 and there were 4 groups at the hole and could see the group on the next tee. I gave up and went back to the club house. Asked for a refund for 9 holes and was told to email the manager. Plenty of better courses in area to play.

Painted

Course layout and conditions were awesome. We are from out of state so we paid nearly double the value of this course for non-resident rate.

We played behind the Wednesday mens club, who for the most part the mens club played fast, but the last group of them did not. They were 3 holes behind by hole 6. We tried to get by and ended up skipping hole 10 in order to do so. After that it was smooth and we played the back nine in under 90 minutes. We usually have this course in our selection to play each time we visit Vegas, but wont play it again.

Narrow course / not in bad shape for a local course.

We showed up a little early.

Hit some balls on the bumpy driving range.

No place to practice chip on this course.

Putting area was in great condition.

Carts were average, nothing fancy.

Tee boxes were lumpy.

Women’s / senior tees dont get much advantage.

Very narrow fairways.

Greens were very nice except the customers don’t fix their divots.

Overall, a very nice and challenging course as long as you keep the ball straight!.

beautiful lay out

The course was challenging and long. Definitely needed to hit the green areas. The dead pan was not friendly. Some of the holes were breath taking. The practice area was busy. The greens were fast. We enjoyed playing this course and would definitely make it another stop in our vacation again.

Fun Course But...

The course was in good shape and the service was tremendous but they definitely need more golf carts.

People were waiting for carts to play which in turn caused a rather long wait on the #1 Tee box. Our 12:00 tee time turned into a 12:45 start. Ultimately, we had to walk off the course because of darkness and didn't finish the round.

Nice course but...

Excellent course but lacked golf carts. Players were waiting for other golfers to finish their rounds so that golf carts could be used. Tee times fell behind which caused us to not be able to finish our round on account of darkness.
