One of the pioneers in Las Vegas golf, Painted Desert Golf Course is a 1987 Jay Morrish design has golfers shooting at targets in the desert.

Painted Desert has maintained its place in the Sin City golf community through all its changes by putting on an emphasis on course conditioning. Just because your greens are almost two decades old does not mean they cannot be in better shape than many of the new kids on the block.

The desert is the focus here, but Morrish also works in a few lakes as obstacles.

"This golf course is a very friendly layout and you can score here without having a feeling of imminent doom on every hole," John Scappatura said. "We are a bit off of the beaten path, which means that we almost always have availability for tee times. Everyone who does make the trip out here though appreciates our conditioning, the price, and the friendly atmosphere."

No frills

Had I not used a rewards coupon, I would have felt that I paid too much. Parking lot was small and I could see it filling up if they got busy, I liked that it had alot of trees to provide shade. As with most courses, no electric vehicle parking and no one staffing the bag drop. The staff was cordial but terse.

My booking did not include range balls so I wasted $10 on a large bucket only to find it was mats only. Those mats have seen some mileage. The practice green was well maintained and an accurate reflection of all 18 on the course.

After I warmed up I had to track down the starter, to get a cart. The cart had no GPS and the pro shop had no yardage book.. luckily the course was wide and flat. I didnt have any blind approach shots, and the layout is range finder friendly. The cart comes with ice, but there are signs that all food and beverage must be purchased on site.

I'm not a fan of backyard golf (playing through backyards of house-lined fairways) but this course layout was wide and flat and very forgiving if you tend to slice towards houses. Chances are you will find your ball.

The fairways and greens were well maintained, but the fairways of 9 and 18 were littered with range balls, which is infuriating if you play yellow or white balls. It wouldn't take much effort to clean those up twice a day. The bunkers need a couple more rakes.

I played by myself so there were no pace of play issues and I saw the beverage cart twice in 3.5 hours.

Overall I got what I paid for, but nothing more.

No help

Unfriendly service and no directions. Started on the back 9 , directed to a starter that didn’t exist. Had to ask for cart location and no help as to where we could go to pick up our bags from the bag drop. Signs prohibit carts in parking lot. Later we find that is not the case for locals. Don’t waste your money or time !

Poor service

Pro shop attendant was not helpful or friendly. Gave no guidance on cart management and directed me to a starter who wasn’t there. I lost a head cover on the course and when asked if anyone had turned one in was told no . Only to find out from the group behind us that in fact two were turned in. I am extremely disappointed in the staff. On a bright note the restaurant/bar was great and the servers were excellent.

Course is in great shape

Narrow fairways and not much rough before you’re in the dirt but the course conditions were excellent. Well worth the money. First time playing here but I’ll definitely be back.

Not the best value in Vegas

Not big fan of this course. Hated the idea that any shot just off the rough was in rocks and gravel. My clubs cost too much to think that I they might get scratch up on a course that I was playing for my first and only time.

Also thought the course was overpriced given its condition.. decent course layout very average condition. $95 was $30 too expensive for this golf course.

Below Expectations

Starter had no control over actual tee times which created a huge back up mess through the entire round. Large stoned located off rough on entire course. Tee box and greens were in pretty good shape.

Windy Day

Played here before and really enjoyed it as I did today. Course can be narrow which made it tough with the wind. Very enjoyable dispite the weather conditions.

Challenging course but not worth the money.

Played the back nine first, which is not as nice or challenging as the front. Tees are decent, fairways are good, and greens are good, but on the slow side. Restaurant was good. Compared to other courses at the same price, this one is not as nice. Sorry!

Bad players

Like the course like the staff hate the players especially the Las Vegas tourist golfers paired up with some high skilled players from out of town I never play well these people got very impatient and irritated with me that they threw me away like trash after nine holes and I’m a local I should not be treated like that from anyone people get me thinking I should just quit the game

For what it's worth ....I don't know of many golfers, local or from out of town, that have a problem with any fellow golfer, regardless of how bad they are, if they 1) play reasonably fast, 2) are not totally obnoxious and 3) do not cheat ... So .... hope this helps

A sunny day on the course in Las Vegas

Course was in beautiful shape. Fairways and roughs mown appropriately. Greens were in good shape, but could have been cut a little shorter. Teed off a little before noon and if it wasn't such a beautiful Sunday afternoon would have been concerned that it took 5 hours to play. It didn't appear that there was any course marshalling being done at this course in the afternoon.

Greta Hot Deal.. Fairway and greens in good shape given winter. Gusty winds 25-30mph with brisk 47degree. Always enjoy playing this course when in Vegas (usually late summer HOT!!)

A Must Play

Scenic, well maintained golf course. Somewhat narrow fairways require accuracy. Off the fairway? Use your rock club (inc!uded with M2 rental set). Very nice. Balls ran on fairways often rolling off back of green. Greens lightning fast. Putt well or run well past hole. Staff excellent! Overall great golf in a great setting. Go play.
