One of the pioneers in Las Vegas golf, Painted Desert Golf Course is a 1987 Jay Morrish design has golfers shooting at targets in the desert.

Painted Desert has maintained its place in the Sin City golf community through all its changes by putting on an emphasis on course conditioning. Just because your greens are almost two decades old does not mean they cannot be in better shape than many of the new kids on the block.

The desert is the focus here, but Morrish also works in a few lakes as obstacles.

"This golf course is a very friendly layout and you can score here without having a feeling of imminent doom on every hole," John Scappatura said. "We are a bit off of the beaten path, which means that we almost always have availability for tee times. Everyone who does make the trip out here though appreciates our conditioning, the price, and the friendly atmosphere."

Great course

Played this course with my wife and we both enjoyed it. The layout was real nice and the views were fantastic. The only complaint was there was a group of 4 older men playing real slow 2 groups in front of us and we waited on almost every hole on the back 9 with the group in front of us. NO ranger to get them moving. This made it real frustrating.

Great Value

We played here 10/24/16 at about noon. What a great value!

It was forecast to be a rainy day but we only encountered rain on the first hole and then had the course literally to ourselves. The staff here were very nice and personable. The course was in decent shape with a few holes still struggling from the summer. The greens were simply outstanding... fast, true, and consistent, even with the extra moisture from the rain. We love the design. It's a bit noisy from the traffic but it isn't enough to be distracting. Houses on the course aren't really in play unless you are really bad. A word of advice: be careful on the cart paths if they are wet. They were very slick and I even fell one time. I think they get mossy from the sprinklers and don't suit soft spikes very well.

Good design, great greens, nice conditions, and excellent staff members make this course a true value in my opinion. We will be back on our next trip to Vegas.

Very Enjoyable Course

I played 1:00PM on a Monday.

I ended up playing alone following a fouresome. I am recovering from broken ribs so the speed of play was fine for me.

The course was lush for the end of summer with some ball marks on the greens. There is a great variety of challenges on the holes with plenty of fairway traps, hills, limited small water hazards, mature trees, and narrow fairways. I was only swinging at about 60% and had little difficulty playing bogey golf. I think the holes are more visually intimidating that actually difficult.

I only played the front 9 due to my health.

The staff was very friendly and responsive with my limited contact with them, although an employee, possibly ranger, chose to honk at me from behind as he drove by on the cart path and startled me. I thought that was pretty rude.

I look forward to playing the course again many times.

Rough shape

The fairways are in bad shape. Hard as rock, crabgrass everywhere in the fairway. Sand traps are really bad. The staff in the restaurant are really nice, pro shop and starter not so much.

Staff

Flight got in early. Went to the course and was told by the first "clerk" they didn't make any money off of our Golfnow reservation so he wouldn't let us go early unless we paid what amounted to three times the rate we had through golf now. And we left and came back one hour and 15 minutes later. The new clerk said the course is wide open and let us go right away.

Horrible customer servie skill

The guy at the front desk, was more interested in arguing to prove me wrong, than helping. I'm an arcis club member, and I book a tee time for myself and on the web. It ask you would you like to add another player. So, I add a second player, but something got mixed up. It add my second player, but not me as a member. Dealing with this guy took 10 minute blaming me that I did something wrong. I, finally asked can we play golf or am I going to need an attorney, because he treated us like we had committed a crime. He made a big deal out of a small problem. If, you tell me you cannot put us in, I would have just went played somewhere else, plain and simple.

Would play again

Generous fairways as other reviewers have mentioned. Fairways and greens were in perfect condition. Fun course to play. The only negative I have is more on the players. There were numerous pitch marks on every green. There was a tournament the day I played so that may have contributed to the number of pitch marks. I tried to repair a few on every green especially the ones near the line of my put. However, the more holes I played it seemed futile to try to get all of them. If I'm in the area again I would definitely play this course again.

Nice track - just avoid the "sand" traps

Not a bad track, And the staff were very friendly. Biggest beef is the traps - there is virtually no sand so it's like playing off of hard dirt. Virtually impossible to get under the ball, let alone take any sand. Houses are also very close to the course on many holes so you don't want to play this course on a day when you're struggling to control your drives.

Interesting Golf Course

Interesting layout. All of the holes are unique. This is a challeneging golf course for a low to mid handicaper. For a high handicaper (over 20), the course would be very difficult. Greens were in excellant shape but tee boxes and fairways could be improved. Bunkers could use some more sand.

I enjoyed the course very much and plan to play it again.

Ok for a first time

Not having played much golf in the Vegas area I wasn't quite sure what to expect but mainly enjoyed playing the course. I arrived early to get warmed up but was asked to join a 3 ball to make up a 4 which I was fine with but no time for a warm up :(

Good company, some good golf on greens that were in good shape had it not been for players in front (and the players in front of them etc.) not repairing ball marks.

Some fairways need a bit of Tender Loving Care but mostly in good condition.

Play here again? Yes but after discovering other courses it might be a while...plus I live in the UK haha

Enjoyable place to play

I've enjoyed this layout for a few years and I thought thi s the best the greens have been. The pace of play, staff and 19th hole make for an enjoyable experience. The day we played was gusting winds but the course was still playable. I did think some of the pins were set way too close to the edge of greens.

Great greens

I had a great time playing this course even though it was 100 degrees. It is a fun course and in good shape. However the greens are in AMAZING shape. I really enjoyed this course and it certainly didn't hurt to get teamed up with some great local guys who gave me some insider tips.

Nice Condition, Getting Hotter, Slow Players

One of the better conditioned courses this season, greens rolled more like N Calif greens not like Bermuda slow. Some holes narrow, brutal par 3s but a fair test as there aways is a place to lay up

Pace of play slow due to one or two groups that had beginner and seems no marshall to push them along esp when temps got hotter.

Walked

play in the sand

wonderful course, well maintained...only a few fairways needed some work, but all in all it was in great shape for playing in April. Can't say enough good things about the staff. Very helpful, courteous. Course is a challenge for someone who is a short hitter, but scoring bogie was okay. Greens were big, undulating but rolled true. can't wait to come back and play again! Images to follow later.
