Painted Desert Golf Club
About
One of the pioneers in Las Vegas golf, Painted Desert Golf Course is a 1987 Jay Morrish design has golfers shooting at targets in the desert.
Painted Desert has maintained its place in the Sin City golf community through all its changes by putting on an emphasis on course conditioning. Just because your greens are almost two decades old does not mean they cannot be in better shape than many of the new kids on the block.
The desert is the focus here, but Morrish also works in a few lakes as obstacles.
"This golf course is a very friendly layout and you can score here without having a feeling of imminent doom on every hole," John Scappatura said. "We are a bit off of the beaten path, which means that we almost always have availability for tee times. Everyone who does make the trip out here though appreciates our conditioning, the price, and the friendly atmosphere."

I actually birdied this short par 4 ... now my favorite hole! Photo submitted by Wally4 on 02/01/2013
Nice course but a bit boring....
We played 3 courses in our recent trip and this was probably my least favourite, but not because there was anything really lacking. The course was in good shape, the staff were very friendly and the scenery was nice. But, the majority of the holes are all very similar - narrow fairways surrounded by traps and scrub with slightly elevated greens. I prefer a variety of holes, with changes in elevation, maybe some water carries and a dog leg or two. I'd recommend Angel Park over Painted Dessert, but only if you love rabbits!
The Staff couldn't care less.
This was my first time playing this course, I didn't bring my clubs with me this time, and was shacked the rental fee was more than I have been charge anywhere else. The G.P.S. in the carts didn't work and the seats were torn. The first two hole played at a decent pace, then everything came to a screeching halt. by the time we made the turn it was just under 3 hours. Groups were backing up on every hole. Someone in the group behind us went ahead came back and said there were only 3 groups in front of us then the course was wide open. He then called the clubhouse and the told him the front two groups were a bachelor party, and they would do nothing to speed them up...sorry. When we got in the clubhouse was locked up (there were still at least 3 groups behind us) and only the kids parking the carts were still there. several carts had also been left on the course because they died and the golfers walked in. I'll never go back to Painted Desert...they couldn't care less about you once they've got your money.
course in great shape
really enjoyed course.staff very friendly.had trouble with gps.it would shut off.also had to hit next hole to forward on screen.most gps change to next hole when previous hole is finished
Windy Day
Great course the only problem was the high winds that day and the slow play.
Great Deal
PLayed the course for $5 from golfnow.com. A mistake for sure, but the best deal in town!
Nice Course
Not the best and certainly not the worst, this course is nice in most respects. I wouldn't place it in my top three, but since we can't always play the top three, you can't go wrong here. The greens were fine, the fairways pretty good. We played the regular tees but if you wanted to juice it up a bit, you could always go back one set.
Gated Community Layout
The fairways were narrow with waste areas lining both sides of the fairways. The houses were very close to the fairways and an errant tee shot will be GONE.
The greens were really good and fast. The fairways were not as good and I had quite a few bad lies.
first time i walked out of a golf course after 6 wholes
Terrible!!!
it took 2 hours to do 6 wholes
the course was not in good shape
very disappointing and frustrating
WORST COURSE I HAVE PLAYED IN VEGAS
GIRLFRIEND AND WIVES
IT MOST HAVE BEEN GIRLFRIEND AND WIVES DAY THE DAY I PLAYED CAUSED IT SEEM LIKE EVERYONE IN FRONT OF ME HAD WAS TEACHING THEIR WIFE OR GIRLFRIEND HOW TO PLAY WHICH TRANSLATES INTO VERY SLOW PLAY AND SUBSEQUENT LOSS OF CONCENTRATION, NONETHELESS, IT WAS ONE OF BEST COURSES I EVER PLAYED.
Disappointment
Second time playing this course....Greens were slow and bumpy. Pace of play was awful. Three of us got paired up with a nice gentleman from Seattle, after the 5 hour round we knew his whole life story....as we had to wait on every single shot!!
Great conditions for November. Staff very cordial. Pace of play was moderate.
The course was in great shape. $36 with cart was a great value thru GolfNow. The staff was very prompt and cordial as they handled problem with rental set. (wet clubs from recent rain and not all clubs were in the bag) Pace of play was a little slow as we were the last ones to finish in the dark. Definitely would recommend and play again.
This course is very golfer friendly. Large fairways. If you miss the fairway you will be hitting from a desert waste area.
The staff was friendly and the course is fairly easy if you stay in the fairways. I liked the fact that they have several tee boxes to choose from depending on your skill level. The course and greens were in great shape. The only negative is this course is surrounded by houses and condos.
Amazing Value
Course was in good shape, people were friendly. For what we paid, we were very satisfied with the course.
TOOOOO LONG to play
Wonderful greens and fairways.... over 5 hours to play... just 2 of us... no ranger to be found.
VERY tight course... not for the beginners... you spray it, your paying for something.... houses and main streets on every hole. Signs reminding you that if damage any private property you are responsible.
Nice course
the staff were super friendly
I got a nice discount on golfnow and like the course
narrow in places and nice greens
glad we played
Every time I have played this course, it has been in great shape.
I come to Vegas once a year and make it a point to get in at least one round at this course. Relatively easy to where the high handicappers don't slow you down.
Nice features, great scenery and course has always been well maintained. Only negative I had this time was the driving range was mats. Didn't see by good reason for it.
Out of a dozen or so rounds at this usually well maintained golf course this is by far the worst shape I have ever seen it.
Reminded me of many springs spent golfing in Minnesota after a long winter which equals fairways stricken with winter kill. Played allright...many mudballs and landing in divots, etc. Thought since it was a Monday A.M. and it was raining (lightly mind you) I could play a quick round...negative, 18+4hours. On a positive note, the older couple I golfed with were very riendly and the Lady "Joyce," was a great golfer. All in all a 5 outta 10.
Shaggy Greens, poor conditions
Bad value even with Hot Deal. Would have been way worse if they charged the $75 full price. Hard pan fairways & shaggy greens.
