Primm Valley Golf Club - Desert Course
About
Editor's Note: Course closed for business in 2024.
Primm Valley Golf Club boasts two championship courses designed by Tom Fazio. On the Desert Course, Fazio fully utilized the rugged landscape and scenic views offered by the mountains in the distance. Like many of his designs, the Desert Course blends seamlessly into the beautiful surroundings. It is a straightforward layout with no hidden tricks but there are several strategically placed bunkers lurking beside the undulating greens to provide some challenges. The golf course also requires a few tricky forced carries. The fairways are generous and offer some room for error, making the course more appealing to beginners. In addition to the two golf courses, Primm Valley also offers extensive practice facilities that include a double-ended driving range, target greens, practice putting greens, and chipping and pitching greens with sand bunkers.

A little rough around the edge
Desert course was challenging and interesting. The course itself is in poor condition which adds to the frustration. Wind can be a nuisance.
Course was not playable
The course was in poor condition. Fairways were terrible. I've played there before and really enjoyed it, but they have obviously had some issues. It's a long way to drive to play a course that looks like a overplayed muni course.
Prim on a sunny but windy day.
The layout was great. Par 3's were fair but tough. The fairways were in rough shape - need a bunch of water. It was a windy day through the first 12 holes, but turned into a beautiful day. Would like to play it again later in the year when the fairways have grown back after the winter. The value for the play was great, thanks Golfnow.com.
Very windy the day we played.
The course is about 25 minute drive from downtown Las Vegas. We had booked this a few days previous so weren't about to let the wind deter us. It was probably blowing about 50-70 mph, so you had to factor this in when making your drives. The first two holes were very challenging, but once we were past these the wind seemed to slow down. Challenging greens, and not a flat course. Lots of sand traps! Slow pace of the group in front on the last few holes was a bit of a peeve...could have used a marshal to pick the pace up a bit. Could be a hot course in the summer months! Would definitely play again and recommend!
Poor conditions
Our foursome played both courses last year and really enjoyed them. THIS YEAR was not enjoyable due to the poor condition of the course (fairways & greens). I sent a review to PAR4 also.
Will not be playing one of their managed courses next year.
Great layout...currently in poor shape.
I was very disapointed in the overall condition of the course. The majority of the fairways were in very poor condition. They looked like someone cut furrows into them because of the way they had overseeded. The greens were in okay shape. Based on the condition of the course they should discount the green fees accordingly.
Always enjoyable
Excellent condition. We timed our trip correctly, as the weather was perfect. and we hit the course during their preparation a week before their big shootout. Must play while in Vegas. 40 minutes drive from the strip. Bent grass greens that are always fast.
Primm Desert = Value and a great layout.
If you don't mind the easy 40 minute drive from the strip, you have to play golf at Primm. The Lakes course is the more highly regarded of the two courses, but I have always liked the Desert better. I have played this course almost every year in the last decade. This year the Desert was not in as good of condition as past years as the overseed didn't quite take on the fairways, but the greens were still excellent (bent grass). The folks at GolfNow should feel ashamed for giving me such a good deal ($39 Hot Time), as this course is an $80-$100 course compared to others in the Vegas area. We will be back next year.
Good desert course
Greens good, average speed. Fairways could be better, maybe just time of year. Lakes course in better overall condition. Great layout, typical Fazio challenge. Price value good. Would play again.
Greens good, fairways not
The Greens were very good but the fairways were poor and had a lot of ground that was just hard dirt. Even on the grass the lies were extremely tight and hard.
This Jewel used to have more luster
Like the course but drought conditions have caused very dry, VERY dry fairways! Doesn't feel fair to pay full price for these course conditions. Hope some future rains get this course back in the condition it deserves.
Out of the big city
A great course to play, out of the big city. They started us on the back nine and we played without a single delay.
Nice layout, excellent inside & outside staff.
We enjoyed the course and facilities very much. The Lakes course has some beautiful holes that will make you think about what is needed to par. This course is not overseed for winter but fairways and tee boxes were in good shape from start to finish. The greens were hard and very fast. That would be ok but quite a few of them had some over the top undulations. Sometimes felt like we were putting on funhouse goofy golf greens. Other than that slight annoyance, everything else was a pure pleasure. A good time was had by all Thanx to the attentive, friendly and helpful staff, especially outside service. Would like to come back and play the Desert course as well.
Poor over seed
Very disappointing! The fairways were terrible and the greens were not much better.
Interesting layout
Played the Desert course in a light breeze and had a great day. This was my 2nd round on a Fazio course, the other being a mountainside course in another state. His interesting layouts are worth the price of admission in themselves. Course condition was OK, but could have been better with more water throughout and some TLC for the bunkers and greens. Would definitely play again.
Not easy
This course is quite a challenge as the fairways are quite narrow and there are plenty of bunkers which will catch wayward shots. The grass was somewhat dry in places and the greens were ok, not great. The staff were all very friendly and helpful.
Good Value
We spent about 40$ and got GPS-Cart and free Rangeballs.
The Pace was slow so we had to skip a hole to get bye a very slow foursome, after that it ws a very nice day.
Cool Golf Day
Weather was cool and windy, but the course was in good shape with a couple challenging holes
