Primm Valley Golf Club - Desert Course
About
Editor's Note: Course closed for business in 2024.
Primm Valley Golf Club boasts two championship courses designed by Tom Fazio. On the Desert Course, Fazio fully utilized the rugged landscape and scenic views offered by the mountains in the distance. Like many of his designs, the Desert Course blends seamlessly into the beautiful surroundings. It is a straightforward layout with no hidden tricks but there are several strategically placed bunkers lurking beside the undulating greens to provide some challenges. The golf course also requires a few tricky forced carries. The fairways are generous and offer some room for error, making the course more appealing to beginners. In addition to the two golf courses, Primm Valley also offers extensive practice facilities that include a double-ended driving range, target greens, practice putting greens, and chipping and pitching greens with sand bunkers.

Great Value
Good value course - plus juniors play free. For some reason though, we started on 10, and at turn had to wait on 1st tee because there was a group in the fairway and two more on the tee - and none were the group ahead of us on the first 9.
great course
Was the first group on after a shotgun tournament. It was the first day of day light savings but still got in 14 holes or so.
One of the better values off The Strip.
Played the Desert this time out. The Lakes is slightly tougher but both courses are fun to play and worth the trip from Las Vegas. Greens were smooth and rolled beautifully - that is what we pay for.
Great design, poor conditions!
The staff was excellent but the golf course needs attention in every way! The greens were in poor condition and the rest of the course was even worse. I was looking forward to a great day but the slow play and the course condition made for a long drive back to Las Vegas. Why play at a place where all you hear is negative comments!
An oasis in the middle of the desert
A solid track! Worth the drive. Overseeding made for bumpy greens. The couse has interesting holes.
Played course in April 2012, Not as nice conditions this year.
Fairways sparse grass in some areas and discolored yellow and brown. We were told overseeded in September and temp was 15 degrees above normal then temps dropped below normal and that is ONE of the reasons for poor conditions. They didnt explain the other reasons for poor conditions. Played in 50 MPH winds but not fault of course. Still had a good time and saw a Tarantula walking along the cart path.
Great layout horrible condition
again great layout horrible conditions not worth cost
Poor Mans Shadow Creek
Primm Lakes course is a poor mans Shadow Creek, Fazio design with good conditions.
Excellent test of golf
As always, Primm is a winner off the beaten track, as they say. Played the Desert Course on a weekend day as part of the semi-annual golf tournament. Went off the white tees for the first time, so the course looked a lot different. Even from the whites, you still have to hit accurate shots and the signature hole (#2) still plays very tough (second shot over the lake, but there is somewhat of a bailout to the right). Excellent pro shop. Also, you cannot beat the driving range and short game area (2 greens with bunkers which allow 60-70 yard pitch shots).
Fantastic Deal
Played the Lakes Course on October 10th. Had been overseeded about 5 weeks earlier and was 90-95% healed up, and was in really good condition. Give it another week or 2 and should be in top shape. Overall, really liked the course. Not the most challenging track, but a fair test for a 10 handicapper like myself. Very green and lots of trees and water for a desert course. Being that I paid $14 Hot Deal, was a fantastic deal and would have paid a lot more to play here. Staff was very friendly. The only knock I had was play was a little slow at times, but tolerable. All in all, absolutely worth the play.
Course was ok the greens need work.
It appears that the greens have had some work done to them. There was a lot of debris on the surface at least they should have been sweep or blown clean. Other then that the course is decent.
Excellent playable layout
I played the lake course and I was very impressed with the layout. It was a good test of golf, but a 25 handicap will not get beat up. Great golf course.
round of golf after/before outlet mall shopping
We bought prepaid on Golf Now for 15$ a person as a foursome and only 2 of us actually made the trip down from Canada. We have had a lot of luck booking with both Golf Now and another web site in order to get great deals for out of town customers in the Vegas and Phoenix area on our trips south.
We had been looking for a good rate at the Lakes Course as played the Dessert a couple years earlier (also on a great deal with Golf Now). Our last visit would of been early in Sept as opposed to early in October and the conditions were not in pristine conditions this time. We golfed a course in Bolder the day we arrived who had played Primm Lakes a day before and said it was in really bad shape, so it appears that things are rapidly improving. By the 6th hole caught up to a local who we joined to make a threesome. He said this is the worst he has seen the course, but after what couple played with in Bolder said came to conclusion that just part of over seeding and that the course is coming around fairly quick. One problem when over seeding and when aerating apparently is that the fly's get to be very annoying. This was first time visiting Vegas or Phoenix area that have noticed any insects. The water feature that runs on back 9 wasn't running so wasn't as picturesque as would of liked but at price payed the course is one of the best values going if get the right rate on Golf Now.
It's hard to remember exactly the details for the Desert side, but as recall think there was only water that came into play on 3 holes or 4 holes where only few holes that doesn't come to play on the Lakes side. I think my preference would be the Desert side, as while in the desert might as well play The Desert but seems that most seem to prefer The Lakes from how fast tee times seem to disappear. If going out to Primm to do some shopping while on a Vegas trip I think that you will be happy with playing a round here as long as you get a good rate. The course is actually a few miles into California right beside a huge solar electrical generating plant that looks very amazing in it self.
Great course.
Even though it was an extremely windy day driving to the course, because of the course design and protective hills, it wasn't bad on the course at all. Really nice layout and kind of surreal playing a course with water hazards in the middle of the desert. Very impressed with the friendliness of the staff and the course itself.
Terrible shape....ext slow play...no marshals???
Very thin grass in fairways, bunkers need sand . Group in front of us quit at turn because of slow play. I played there three years ago and it was great. I was embarrassed that I brought a group with me to play this course .. Very disappointed with the course.
Drinking Water
I enjoyed the course but next year I will bring my own drinking water. No drinking water available on the course.
Put this on your to play list.
The course was just coming out of reseeding. So you have to overlook that and see it is truly a course to always put on your play list when traveling to Vegas.
good value
Just overseeded. grass a little sparse. good staff. cool solar towers view too.
very nice
first day opened after overseeding so it was cart path only. Still played just under 4hrs. Very nice
