Primm Valley Golf Club - Desert Course
About
Editor's Note: Course closed for business in 2024.
Primm Valley Golf Club boasts two championship courses designed by Tom Fazio. On the Desert Course, Fazio fully utilized the rugged landscape and scenic views offered by the mountains in the distance. Like many of his designs, the Desert Course blends seamlessly into the beautiful surroundings. It is a straightforward layout with no hidden tricks but there are several strategically placed bunkers lurking beside the undulating greens to provide some challenges. The golf course also requires a few tricky forced carries. The fairways are generous and offer some room for error, making the course more appealing to beginners. In addition to the two golf courses, Primm Valley also offers extensive practice facilities that include a double-ended driving range, target greens, practice putting greens, and chipping and pitching greens with sand bunkers.

What has happened to the Desert Course?
Dismayed by the condition of the Desert Course. Played there 6 years ago and it was pristine. Now it is burnt off with unusual grasses everywhere and poor maintenance in bunkers and desert areas. Fortunately, played in a 'red hot deal' for a good price. No one really on course on Super Bowl Sunday.
Kind of disappointed
I played the course because it came highly recommended. I have to admit that I was more than a little disappointed in how dry the desert course was. I know..."it's the desert course", but I'm talking about the fairways (not that I get to play the fairways much, but I have to walk across them after each stroke to find my ball on the other side). It seemed like maybe watering restrictions had gone into effect and they hadn't been watered in a few days. However, the18th hole was very nice. It was in really good condition. Additionally, from the vantage point that I had, the Lakes course seemed to be in really great shape. I would still recommend this course. It's easy to see why people like it so much.
Played the Lakes course, great layout
Course was in good condition for this time of the year, normally it's in pristine condition. I felt I got a really good deal through Golf Now considering it was a last minute tee time on a holiday weekend.
excellent courses
Enjoy playing there. If the weather is not as dry, I am sure the course condition will be much playable and enjoyable.
If you're looking for a well designed course with a good quality staff and fair price, give Primm Valley a try.
We played the Primm Desert Course on 12/16/2013 and found the course well worth the 40 minute drive from Las Vegas. The cold weather over-seeding had not filled in yet, so there were some thin spots, but this was a minor issue and all other aspects of the course were just fine. Greens were excellent for this time of year. If you're one of those golfers who is more concerned with being pampered than playing golf, then go to Shadow Creek, if you're looking for a well designed course with a good quality staff and fair price, give Primm Valley a try.
No houses! Terrific layout. Well worth the drive.
Greens in good condition, fairways a bit rough but play it up if needed, the pros do.
Worth the Las Vegas Gamble!!
played the "Lakes" course was paired with players of similiar skill level and the staff gets the credit... everyone I met was friendly and concerned about ... only issue is pace of play..... did not notice any course assistant to speed up play and we finished close to sunset with a 11:40 am time. Greens were hadn't recovered from a recent maintaince that should have been communicated. Cart gal was very visible and accomodating...
Love the design and will play again when visiting Las Vegas
love not having any homes in sight
I enjoy this course very scenic and fair for the average golfer
Well Designed course
I highly recommend this course for the layout. Lots of very interesting holes and even some elevation. Greens were nice, I'm not sure what to say about the fairways. This was my first golf trip to Vegas in December. I don't really know what condition to expect for this time of year. The local that played with me said it was in good condition for December, to me the fairways were very spotty. I would still recommend playing here. I got a great deal for $24 from GOLFNOW. I played three times from Dec 10-17. Mountain Falls the best condition and highly recommended, next Primm (probably best layout but MF close), and Boulder Creek. Primm and MF all Ryegrass so no dormant brown while BC had dormant right off the fairway, to me this was not as appealing but a descent layout.
Great challenging track
all I can say is its cold weather but the challenges of this 18-hole beautiful course warmed us up.
Needs improvements
Course has gone downhill in last year according to golfers in the area. Very spotty fairways and bumpy greens on the Desert course. I heard that the Lakes course is in better shape. I was very disappointed in the condition overall. People I played with stated the new management is the problem!! Has great potential but I bet Tom Fazio would be hopping made to see it in it's current condition!!!!!
Not at its best
Even when not at its best the Primm courses are wonderful to play. Quite and well maintained. Variety of holes and views as well as tee selections make for a enjoyable round for everyone. Only negative this trip was bumpy greens which had been areated in the not to distant past but not rolled. (bit slow and bumpy). Other minor issue is bunker sand seemed to be gone as most bunkers were very very firm making explosion shots impossible and playing more like a flop shot from dead pan. Still quiet relaxing course worth the money. Had i not booked the Hot Deal, Deal caddy discount 2 days later would have allowed 25 dollar round which would have been an incredibal deal. We payed 70 but still not bad value. We played the Lakes 18.
Great track but they have cut back on maintenance budget
Haven't played the course for 3 years. The course conditions and greens were much better then. However can't blame them as the greens fees before was 99 now it's 69.
Overall a fun track and worth the drive for $69
Fantastic value
A brilliantly designed course with super greens. I'm not sure you could find better value.
We enjoyed the playing the golf course
great view from the course jj jj jj jj jj j j j jj j
The course was great..
We enjoyed the course, staff and facility but the bunkers need attention. We found that there was little to no sand in the bunkers so you could not play the bunkers properly.
Only 9 hole
We were only able to play 9 holes so a lot of the course I wasn't able to see.
Worth the drive
The Lakes course was in nice condition. It has a nice variety of holes and risk/reward options.
Has not survived the overseeding.
Unfortunately we played here about a month ago and the greens had been areated and were healing up. This week the greens had healed but the grass had not grown in sufficiantely and were still very bumpy. Tee boxes had topdressing on them, which tells me the overseed did not take. Big sections of fairway had stunted growth of new grass, and some had sections roped off as ground under repair. This reall y is one of my favorite courses to play, but it nees some TLC to get it back in shape.
This course has great features.
Primm Valley Desert Course is an enjoyable course to play, It would help to have a yardage book as the GPS doesn't give very much information.
