About

Holes 18
Type Resort
Par 72
Length 6543 yards
Slope 137
Rating 71.9

The Barony Course at Port Royal Golf Club constitutes 18 of this well-known island facility's 54 holes.

Playing to just 6,543 yards from the gold tees, Barony is a very enjoyable course for all skill levels. The back nine in particular is a fine mix of long and short holes. Like its sister courses at Port Royal, Barony begins and ends at the club's beautiful Antebellum-style clubhouse.

From the tee, many of the holes on Barony appear to be relatively open. But as you approach the green the real challenge of the course becomes clear. The greens are small and protected by deep bunkers and Bermuda rough, demanding an excellent touch with the medium and short irons. This is a course where accuracy, not length is the key factor.

It was good

Overall a good course, but this was my issue. It had rained over the last couple of days, so it was cart path only, and you only let members walk, everyone else is required to take a cart. Wouldn't it make sense to lift the rule when it is cart path only, it would actually speed up pace of play.

Unexpected round was great

We chose to move our Wednesday round due to expected rain on Thursday. Found this course and gave it a try. Glad we did. Course in good condition. Seemed to be a popular group of courses. On our radar for future trips,

Great Course.. But….

Beautiful course, nice layout. But a few staff members were rude which took away from my overall rating. Also the pace of play was not monitored except for the 10th tee box which is at the clubhouse.

1st time to Barony

Beautiful day but for what I paid for the round, i was not impressed.

Course was in OK condition and i expected pristine for the green fees.

Resident price is about what I thought it should have cost, under $70.

To pay $140 +, they are taking advantage of the tourist.

Would not play again at that price.

Super staff

The course was great, the staff was friendly and the cost to play was reasonable for Hilton Head island.

Most notably was the cart service, there were two of them and always there when needed. Hooray to them!
