The Brigantine/Clipper Course at Shipyard Golf Club combines two of the three nine-hole golf courses on the property for one of the more challenging tests on Hilton Head. Brigantine/Clipper has a rating of 73.5, with a slope of 135 from the championship tees.
Designed by Willard Byrd and built in 1982, alligators sun themselves along the scenic, water hazard-filled Brigantine nine holes. With slight doglegs and well-placed bunkers, this golf course requires shot making and a good short game.
With plenty of sand and water hazards, Clipper may be the most difficult of the nines. This George Cobb design requires a good long game and a soft touch around the greens.

Range closed so no warmup. Fairways and tee boxes were poor - little grass and what there was in clumps. Greens nice but as hard as a ping pong table. Few pins on flat spots making even short putts seeing one foot breaks. Virtually every hole was doglegged - and with bends that hide green from tee. The repetitive doglegs made the course just not fun - not a resort course. Overpriced for the condition and the layout.

Fairways are really bad with many bare areas. Turf is hard as a rock like they haven't watered it in quite some time. Greens were good but also firm and hard to hold.

Fun course!
Everyone was friendly and course was in good condition for this time of year. Grass will be thicker soon as the heat and rain help. We play here most every time on our biannual boys golf trip. Greens were running well and gators were out! (my favorite part) Pace of play was great as we went out very early, but as most courses in HHI, the pace slows after lunch.

Staff was very friendly and nice.
Told marshall would help manage pace. Never saw marshall. Saw cart person on hole 3 and 18. Pace was at 4.5 hrs. Fairways were 75% grass. Practice green way nicer/faster than course greens. Nice layout and fair. I would like to give a better review but would be lying.
