About

Holes 18
Type Resort
Par 72
Length 6855 yards
Slope 135
Rating 73.8

The Brigantine/Clipper Course at Shipyard Golf Club combines two of the three nine-hole golf courses on the property for one of the more challenging tests on Hilton Head. Brigantine/Clipper has a rating of 73.5, with a slope of 135 from the championship tees.

Designed by Willard Byrd and built in 1982, alligators sun themselves along the scenic, water hazard-filled Brigantine nine holes. With slight doglegs and well-placed bunkers, this golf course requires shot making and a good short game.

With plenty of sand and water hazards, Clipper may be the most difficult of the nines. This George Cobb design requires a good long game and a soft touch around the greens.

Horrible Golfing Experience

I am not mad or disappointed. I am in shock. I played the Galleon and Clipper courses on 3/22/23 and they were in horrible condition. The Clipper course worse than the Galleon course which was in bad shape. I played with a member who was complaining how bad it was. The fairways were bare with very little grass on them. Some of the greens should have been closed because they looked like they were dying, especially the 11th green ion the Clipper course. The fringes around most of the greens were mostly dirt and you could not chip off them. Most of the tees had minimal grass on them. They do not even give the appearance that they are trying to maintain the course. I did not see one maintenance person anywhere on the grounds the day I played. It was a free for all on the course without a course Ranger anywhere in sight. A twosome was scheduled to start on the Brigantine course and said it was so backed up on the first hole they took it upon themselves to jump to the Clipper course without any regard to whom they might be jumping in front of. The starter for all 3 courses stays near the bag drop which does not allow for any coordination on any of the 3 courses first tees. I thank my stars that I waited until after 2 PM to play because I only wasted 90.00 instead of the 160.00 if I played before Noon..

A bit much for not much

Greens were good, bunkers not so good, fairways kind of thin. Really not a good value for money proposition.

Displeased

For March, the fairway were very thin. Disappointing for the price we paid.

Too tricked up

Brigantine 9 has too many holes with no safe shot from the tee. The average golfer of 10-12 HDCP is not going to enjoy their day if they have to start on this 9..

The course was good , staff was friendly and accommodating. I booked thru the golf now app..when I arrived to the course they had no knowledge of me having a tee time, I was a little bit disappointed because I gave myself ample time to go to the driving range. When my name was not on the tee sheet they had to rush me to the first tee to join the threesome on the first hole, who already were halfway down the fairway..by the time I arrived. I did not play the first hole and met the group on the first green. Miscommunication somewhere . First time having a problem booking with golf now.
