Brigantine/Clipper at Shipyard Golf Club
About
The Brigantine/Clipper Course at Shipyard Golf Club combines two of the three nine-hole golf courses on the property for one of the more challenging tests on Hilton Head. Brigantine/Clipper has a rating of 73.5, with a slope of 135 from the championship tees.
Designed by Willard Byrd and built in 1982, alligators sun themselves along the scenic, water hazard-filled Brigantine nine holes. With slight doglegs and well-placed bunkers, this golf course requires shot making and a good short game.
With plenty of sand and water hazards, Clipper may be the most difficult of the nines. This George Cobb design requires a good long game and a soft touch around the greens.

Good value for money
We like this course and think it is a good value without being exceptionally expensive. We have played other courses in Hilton Head Island , paid much more and they weren’t nearly in the condition of Shipyard. Would play this course again.
Nice resort course
A nice resort with dog legs defending some holes and alligators defending the lakes. The course is fun and not too technical, sand traps good, greens slow some bumpy ( it is then end of winter) but putted fine.
Will play again
Brigitine
(2) New golfers at the end of the day. Brigitine felt a little narrow and straight. Course grass wasn't the best all around, and I read a ton of pace of play reviews. No one was behind us or in front of us, and we loved it. Everyone seems to forget they started at one time too. Definitely saw a ton of wildlife. We had fun, and my wife built a ton of confidence (and played super well). Well worth the deal we got on GN.
Hilton head golf
Greens were in good shape. The fairways were what you would expect this time of year. I used a hot deal otherwise the few for golf would be too high for the shape of the course. Worth a play if you can get a deal.
1st round of 2 week trip
The course has 27 holes so I expected a 4 hour round...played closer to 4H, 15M. Allowed a 2-some to play with my 2-some since we had been waiting on most shots. Greens were slow but great shape. Fairways were spotty...likely due to grass not fully grown in (late February). Bunkers were in good shape. Would play again, but there weren't any "spectacular" or memorable holes, unlike some other courses in the area.
Good track in good condition.
Fairways still greening up from winter season. Nice staff.
Interesting course but needs rain
Enjoyed this course. lots of challenging holes with many water hazards (and gators).
But lack of rain has made the grounds very dry and hard. But playing during the afternoon discounts makes it great value.
Shipyard
This course, and all its amenities, are dated but a great layout. I enjoyed it more than many of the "tricked up" newer courses in the area. Course conditions could be improved but looks like they are working hard.
