Robber's Row at Port Royal Golf Club

About
A Pete Dye redesign of a George Cobb and Willard Byrd original design helped take the Robber's Row Course at Port Royal Golf Club toward the head of the pack on Hilton Head. Dye added or redesigned 43 bunkers on the front nine, changing par from 35 to 36 and did some shortening on the back nine to change par from 37 to 36.
The golf course plays little more than 6,000 yards, with a somewhat-friendly 124 slope rating from the tips. Players will have to do some work on their approach shots, as the Cobb/Dye design keeps its greens well protected with bunkers.
The golf course is a scenic delight, however, and in a nice move, you get history lessons at the tee boxes to help let you know the past of the area you are playing, which was once an important location in the Civil War.

Not worth the money
Course layout was staff was great that being said the course is not worth the money !!!!!
Greens not in good shape alot of burnt grass mowing not that great for 160 bucks was very disappointing 😑
Not impressed
The marshal and starter were not customer friendly. They were rude to me as a single lady playing. They were stressing over letting me play as a single.
I will never play this course again.
Disappointed with marshals
I have to rank the Golf Staff’s highest but giving a low rating because of the marshals.
First, I signed up for a single round because I wanted to work on course management. However, the starter seemed to have a big problem that I was playing as a single woman.
Apparently the was another golfer in front of me, and if needed I would have been open to paring with him if the starter asked me instead of scowling, not asking, or being courteous.
The starter’s helper asked if I wanted range balls which was nice.
Final point here is the starter didn’t ask me if I played or know where the first hole was.
Now eventually I caught up with the gentleman who started playing in front of me.
We were playing at a good pace, I’m fundamentally fast versus my playing partner said he liked to play slower.
No matter, until the marshal continued to hound us to increase our pace of play. The final push, the marshal claimed that the two men behind us were pros and if we would let them play through.
If the marshal approached us earlier to ask us to let their board members play through, we would have certainly done so.
Once we completed the 18th hole, and I drove back to our rental house, the time was 3:30pm.
In conclusion, I will not play this course again, do not recommend playing because of the attitude of the marshals, and for $90, I can make a better decision to play at a course that is not stuck in the 50s attitude towards a woman.
Nice course - TLC needed
There was some rain a few days prior to us playing, all things considered it was in good condition. One hole should have been closed as it was underwater especially the middle of fairway. The course was cart path only, which was unfortunate.
Rained out
Did not play due to heavy rain:thunderstorms in the afternoon rained out.
Disappointed in Fee.
I arranged a time through Golf Now, I had previous experience with scheduling for this course I play every year on vacation. It is an arrangement between our timeshare and the course for a discounted
fee. Because I used Golf Now, they would not recognize the timeshare discount. I do not think this was right. I used Golf Now to gain access to a greater variety of tee times because they keep the tee times for our timeshare group for later in the heat of the day.
Price was not right
My only disappointment came when checking in. Even though our timeshare agreement, has this course as a it feature with low greens fee, We were charged full price because we used Golf Now. I used GN to ensure an early morning tee time. Had I waited for the timeshare schedule of available tee times we would have had to play in a 112 degree real feel temp. I do not think it fair I was charged full price, even though i had proof of our timeshare discount. So I was penalized for using Golf Now to arrange a time.
Could be better
Played the course in the afternoon with 2 other guys. Starter/bag guy was just there to take tips. Golf shop staff was great and explained the beverage cart was gone for the day, which I get when they’re slow. Layout is great but conditions were not. Thin, disease, and slow greens. Irrigation started when we had four holes to play. Couldn’t finish the round and still had 2 hours of daylight.
Great Day at Robber's Row
Today was my first time playing at Port Royal Robber's Row. I dropped my bag off and it was loaded onto the cart for me. I went into the nice club house to pay. It was nice to hear that range balls were included in the price of the round. The started directed me to the nice range. There was also a nice putting green and a short game area. The started told me to be back 8 minutes before my tee time.
The ride from the starter to the first tee is kind of far but it was not a problem to find. The course was in good shape except for a few of the greens on the back 9. They had a dead spots on the end of the green.
The greens are small. The pace of play was rather slow on the front 9. It was much better on the back 9 thanks to the slow moving group only playing 9 holes. Total time was 4 hours 10 minutes. The front 9 was 2.5 hours!
I would definitely play here again.
