Members Only Golf Club?
First time playing this course. Having heard a lot about it in the past . Not what I was expecting for a country club. Poorly kept fairways and greens, No treatment has been done this year and from the look of things last year. Would rather play a public course any day even for the $15.00 golfnow deal. Fairways were either soggy or extreemely dry. On one Par 3 (Hole #7) The makeshift T-box was a dirt cart path two blue pins on either side!. Definitely off my bucket list and never coming back.
Nice facility with potential
The course is obviously under some sort of improvement process to bring back better conditions. Once complete the course will be much more enjoyable. Fairways have a way to go, greens are close to good condition. Always enjoy this challenging course and the staff is always very friendly and accommodating.
Feedback
This review is solely based on the course conditions and perhaps later in the year it could change. That is if I play this course again. Course pretty beat up. Fairways need to be tended to. Many were basically dirt. Tee boxes even worse...good thing tees could be used.
Not Recommended at this time
- Staff
1) Cashier - How are you paying? Me - Cash. "Oh, I hope I have enough change for you."
2) Me - Where is the first tee? Cashier - "Oh, its right over there down the cart path."
3) Me - Anything I should be aware of? Cashier - "Course is a bit beat up right now. You can head out right now...you should be fine."
- Course
1) Fairways are burnout and assuming ready for spring growing.
2) Terrible yardage markings in the fairway (100/150/200)...aside from the 150 hash mark on the cart path...I would have no idea.
3) Greens = mossy. Some were actually pretty solid but overall running slow and patchy.
4) I felt like every hole I was playing in someone's backyard. Driving through houses, across streets, etc. Interesting to say the least.
To the Players:
- If you hit your driver over 250, leave it at home...you won't need it. I hit a 4 iron off about 9 tees.
- I hit at least a dozen sand wedges, gap wedges and pitching wedges.
- Though I will say, from the blues, the par 3's are 200+ (most of them)
Would I go back...NOPE. I almost asked for a refund after the 6th hole.
Excellent Service to Veterans
My "Crew" and I recently played the Montclaire Country Club on Sunday, 12 April 2015. We were greeted by a very courteous sales person that did not hesitate to make our visit/game enjoyable. She overlooked our Tee-Time and started us out early. My Golfing Crew will definitely return to this course.
Good
Course was in good shape for this time of year. It was much dryer than I expected,. given the heavy snow and cold temperatures we have experienced. Ran into no soggy areas until holes 15, 16 and 17. Must be their proximity to the frozen lake. Enjoyed our round.
Montclair
Need to play summer to better evaluate Golfcourse.
Exceptional course
My buddy & I played this course whenever we get a chance. One of the reason is the excellent condition of the golf course anytime of the year. If you want fun but challenging course, you must play this course. Not recommended for beginners.
Nice Layout!
It's December 2014 so I was not expecting too much but I have played this course twice before and knew what to expect. The fairways are brown now but the greens were still pretty decent. They were a little bumpy but the speed was very good. The staff was very friendly and greeted me with professionalism. Will definitely play this course again.
course
Course was wet from rain night before but the pace of play was slowed by a group of women who could not find there ball after every shot!
Montclair
good good course.play by myself layed round went fast
Challegin . Course
I played this course on Columbus Day so it was quite empty plus the wet weather. The course needs somd upkeep and i understand itz under new management so maybe some positice changes are on the way. However seeing how im not a "golf snob", and i fealize you get what you pay for, st $25 with a cart id say it was worth the money.
Bunker condition
Need more soft sand fill in. Current bunker is extremy hard to difficult get out.
Improving Course
This course has opened up to limited public use. It is accessible for those in the Woodbridge, Manassas, and Route 234 Corridor. They have made good strides in improving course conditions. New grass is taking hold and with the favorable weather conditions is showing dividends. The course is a little quirky and tight from tee box. But getting through the tree-lined tees there are mostly good landing areas. Target golf is a premium and you have to think your way around the course. Par 3s are a mix of distances which is nice. Overall enjoyable challenge with improving course conditions.
This course is very unique.
Montclair CC is a special place for my wife and I. We enjoyed our anniversary here on yesterday. Staff was very friendly and the course was great :-} We both enjoyed it!!!
Bring your Fade
Thought I had a good deal to play this private course. Unfortunately, when I got there, I found out that they had killed all the grass in the fairways in preparation of planting grass.
Course is very tight. VERY tight. It also favors the fade (I'm right handed; most holes are dog-leg right.) Given that this was my first time to play course, it would be helpful if they had picture of each hole somewhere on course (either at tee box or on scorecard.) Without these, I played most tee shots blind.
One positive was the greens, which were in great shape and very fast (which I like).
Overall, it was not a very enjoyable course to play for the first time and alone.
Ok
The course wasn't terrible. It's a course who's time has come and gone. The starter was a jerk. He gave the impression that golfnow customers are there for their money only and not welcome. Once I was in my cart and ready to go, he came and took the cart back and told me to share a cart with one of the other TWO guys ready to start. We were the only three golfers on the entire course and I only got half a round in due to his poor attitude.
Great Course
excellent course, excellent greens, overall an excellent time! Extremely tight fairways on the front nine, but just have your game together and you will do fine. The back opens up a little bit but still great play.
Short and extremely tight track
This is a private club that has opened a few times up on golfnow. The course has been in pretty good condition and is definitely more than challenging and fun enough to keep me coming back but I can't see myself pulling the trigger on a membership (nothing against them, I just like using golfnow and playing different courses too much). Watch out for the greens, they're by far the fastest I've seen in the area.
Challenging course
Challenging and tight course, very well kept and great staff
