Greens are hard to read
This Tournament course, the one I played, is in fabulous condition and being able to hit longer shots is definitely an advantage but once on the green pay attention to the breaks on others puts and realize the course is built near the bottom of some low sloping hills that people tend not to see. You need to look at the bigger picture to determine how your ball will break and not just the obvious slopes on the greens themselves.
perfect greens!
The tournament course is in fantastic shape. The greens are perfect, the bunkers perfect, the fairways are nearly perfect, as good as possible given the rains we had. They let carts on the fairway and the grass held up well. Jack Nicklaus design with the normal difficult first hole and no really easy holes. A lot of greens are hard to hit. I'm a 2 handicap and had to make a lot of putts to shoot 76. I like that challenge.
Tough course
Several days had past by since the last rain and we thought the course would have been in decent condition, but it was still quite wet. Not sure if someone ran the sprinklers the night before, or not , but clearly a mistake if they did, or simply poor drainage. Very tough course first time out, especially due to wetness, cold and wind . Need to play very close attention to the GPS for blind hazards for lay up shots.
Great time.
Had a great time playing this course. Only reason for 4stars on course was due to all the rain we've had lately. Given that it was in great shape.
Great variety
Play the tournament course at Coyote Creek for a great variety of holes from hitting over trees to the green on the front nine to playing over water on the back.
good layout but with "path only" & slow pace
I understand that the severe weather condition let us ride as path only, but the slow pace of play makes me wish two things: longer tee-off interval & marshal who can push slower players.
aerated fairways but greens in great shape
The fairways were just aerated but didn't know until we got there. thought we would get a heads up when booking but no. The bunkers are also very thin with little sand. However, the Greens were in awesome shape. fast and true, so fun to putt on.
Challenging but good
Course in great condition but challenging for a first time player to figure out what path to follow and navigate the obstacles and read the greens. I appreciate the tips on the GPS
Great course, even better value
Arrived to find that several holes were being airified but by the time I reach the holes the fairways had been cleaned up so well they were very playable. First golf course I found very playable after being airified.
The course is challenging yet fair.
I look forward to playing this course in the future. A lot of lay up holes which makes the course challenging, so I will definitely play it different during the next round.
A nice course
Nice course in pretty good condition. Could be windy from time to time. Overall one of the best I played in south san jose.
Coyote Creek Tournament Course Review
I am a 15 handicap and have played 82 rounds so far in 2014. I decided to take a break on a Friday, I got a great deal on GolfNow to play the tournament course with a 830am tee time about 2 hours before tee time. The weather was nice, high of 70 degree for a mid November day. Paired up with a nice guy from Walnut Creek, which is always a bonus, and off we go. My first drive was awesome ( Thanks Don Leone for the lesson!). The course, fairway and greens were in great condition, the course challenging as it usually it is, and the service good. The greens seemed firm from my experience so don't over hit the greens. Overall excellent experience and value with the discounted rate... AND... I saved enough to do a replay on the Valley Course, a much easier course though the slope rating is similar to the Tournament Course. I finished my round on Tournament in 3 HOURS!!! Finished Valley in 4 hours. I'm not a big fan of being next to Fwy 101 noise but I can get over it. Want easy, go to Valley. You want challenge, then the Tournament should give you ample opportunities.
Great Day
Played in great weather 11/8/14. The course was in fantastic shape. Hat tip to the grounds crew. Greens were near flawless. A real joy. Friendly staff as well.
Bunkers from Mars
Nice layout & undulating greens. Bunkers need imported sand ASAP. I was hitting off of a 5 day old pizza crust.
Tighten up greens to make them beyond good;
Educate marshall to offer maintenance info before we encounter it.
Great breakfast!
golf now price was great
i paid the golf now price of $45 but i dont think i would pay the full $82
Beautiful but challeging course
It was so beautiful and good conditioned golf course. It is the best golf course I've ever played.
Great Course - A Challenging Layout
Really enjoyed my round on the tournament course. Great layout with some risk/reward shots. Greens were in fantastic shape. One of the best values for $50 or less in the bay area!
Excellent Day at Coyote Creek
First time playing Coyote Creek in several months, and I was pleasantly surprised with the overall experience. Not that Coyote Creek is not good - but was expecting conditions to be less good because of the drought. Clearly they aren't sparing the water on this course. Staff was very friendly and accommodating, even comp'd me some range balls for no specific reason. I was paired up with a good threesome, and we got out in front of some slower players. Morning play is key here, as it gets windy in the afternoon. Only complaint is that the bunkers were a bit inconsistent, with less sand in some locations than mud. But then again, don't hit it there.
Great Conditions
I play a lot of courses in the bay area, and this is the second best in the south bay, next to Cinnabar. The course is challenging, but it's in great condition and you can finish with the ball that you started with.
