best course in bay area right now concerning overall condition
This is without a doubt the best course in the Bay area as far as the condition of the course. The drought has stressed numerous tracks in CA, but the greens, fairways, and teeboxes were immaculate. I don't know how they do it. I've played about 30 courses over the last 5 months - from TPC HardingPark to Hiddenbrooke to Half moon Bay Ocean course. At $29 on golf now for a 3:00 tee time, it can't be beat.
Challenging course, but needs maintenance
Tournament course layout is challenging and greens really tough. Bunkers are terrible - thin veneer of sand on dirt. Rarely see food/bev cart. $100+ on weekends tough to justify.
Nice to see
I golf about every week in the Bay Area and have a single digit index and it was a breath of fresh air to play this course. Most California courses are suffering from the drought and I can definitely understand that but it's about how you manage the water that matters. The tournament course was very well manicured from tee to green and the challenge in simplicity of the layout was fantastic. It's a tough course from the further tees in the wind(which seemed to be a consistent feature) but a realistic test. I'll play here again for sure, maybe just on hot deals though bc I'm California broke and it is a jack signature course!
Decent Greens & Layout / Rough Patches
Not a bad course but could use some cosmetic attn.
challenging greens
excellent golf course with at least 5 tee choices
for any caliber player. greens with lots of slope
and break. back nine is much more exposed to the wind that the front. if you use a cart gps gives nice description of where you should place the ball
off the tee and into the green. nice practice area.
over a 2 hour drive for me so it will not be a regular
place for me, but for players in the san jose area this is a wonderful place to play golf. both courses offer a lot of fun trying to make your record number of pars.
Great experience
Great course. Great staff. Difficult course. This course requires not only good ball striking, but good course management.
Course is in very good shape
The drought has left many local courses looking for answers, and many have burned up fairways, etc. Coyote Creek is in superb condition, and it deserves to be played.
Coyotes at Coyote Creek
This is a fun, challenging golf course with nice views of the hills. Good for all levels even with the hazards. We saw a couple coyotes (#2 and #7). Amazing.
The course is very windy and you get a lot of noise from the freeway. The round was fine for the price ($50) but I'd pay extra any day for cinnabar hills.
Beautiful Course with a Few Exceptions
This course is beautiful, especially in the afternoon as the sun is setting on the mountains in the distance!! Fairways and rough were in great shape. The greens were in great shape as well but could have been a bit faster and the bunkers had no sand (There was sand but when you hit the ball it was like hitting off of a hard ground. Also, #10 is under maintenance right now and plays as a par 3 from the fairway. #17 there were a ton of ducks on the green. I ended up hitting one (on accident of course) on my approach to the green and it made my ball ricochet into the front bunker (not sure what the rule is on that one!). There was also a ton of duck stuff (if you know what I mean) on the front of the green where the ducks were sitting. Finally, I think the Pro Shop could be a bit more friendly, however, the cart guys/ladies and the marshall were very friendly.
Terrible
You must wear slacks or golf appropriate attire to go to the range...I can't go on the way home in my work clothes to hit a bucket. I have to buy their balls to go to the chipping green, $7 for a small. The range doesn't open before the first tee time and they will routinely close the range before sunset. The snack shack doesn't open until after 9am. So a 6:30 tee time you make the turn before they open for any food. Only 1 cart girl for the 36 holes and she doesn't start until after 9am. They close the shack early, long before the sun sets, like 5pm. During the summer, we would chase the sun after work. They would shut down the course when the sun was still up. This happened many times. they turn the sprinklers on the back 9 before sunset, therefore if you're trying to finish your round, they want to go home. This also happened many times to us. They will not tell you if they punched the greens when you make your tee time, you only find out after you get there and spend over $100 to play in the sand. Total waste if you want to practice before you play, eat at the turn, finish your round, practice after work, total waste. Nice course if you can just tee it up after someone else pays for your round....
Tournament
Tournament course is unmatched quality in the south bay. Along with cinnabar the tournament course is the cream of the crop. You can use every club in your bag. Most shots can be found and offer a fun approach shot. I will be coming back to this course.
It's a Jack Nicklaus signature course
There are two courses here and the tournament course is really good. Good layout and the last two holes are really great.
Nice Course
I'm not sure why others have knocked this Valley Course so much. It's not easy at 6600 yds from the whites at a slope of 130. It's not boring either as you need to think about your shots and you'll use all the clubs in your bag. My bag was a set of Titleist AP rentals. They also had Callaway and Taylor Made for a great selection. The tee boxes and fairways were all in great shape especially considering the major drought now in effect. The greens were excellent and rolled very true. There were some small areas through the green that were being recovered from damage of some sort but they did not impact the play. The bunkers were mainly hardpan but I think that's a result of the constant wind we had. Several green to next tee distances were a bit far and confusing. The route is marked but it sure helped to have a cart mate that knew where to go. Lastly I found the staff to be very friendly and accommodating. I will play this course again the next time I'm in the Bay Area.
One HOT day of golf.
i came out by myself and played nine holes. By the time I made the turn it was 99 degrees out, just to HOT for me. I'll come back tomorrow, morning, when it is cool out. The pro shop and outside staff was friendly and helpful. And they all made me feel comfortable and welcome.
Good but windy
I've played here many times. The course is great and in excellent condition every time. However, due to its location, it can get really windy here.
It's a course that requires thinking instead of just bombing the driver down every hole.
Nicklaus course?...Really
Adobe clay bunkers are garbage!!! Course is worst Nicklaus design I've ever played!
Save your money and go play elsewhere!
tournament course
It was a hot day, so the lag in play on the course wasn't a great thing. We also had a three some behind us that was impatient and kept hitting up on us while we were waiting for the group in front of us. Had this not been my first time here their balls would have been hit onto the highway
the clubhouse staff was great and very friendly. I think putting 1 Marshall out on the course woul be a good thing.
I don't understand why the GPS has the drink cart button on it and nobody ever showed up.
South Silicon Valley Treat
Coyote Creek has evolved into a nice operation and continues to improve yearly. As a long-term SV resident, I recalled the original Riverside track (which is now the Valley Course) and before the expansion with the Tournament Course. The facility, staffing and playing conditions are impressive and moderately priced. Even with the local area drought, Coyote is responsibly managing their water usage and the playing conditions were ideal given the middle of the summer. Recommend you enjoy yourself soon.
