Del Monte Golf Course
About
Opened in 1897, Del Monte™ Golf Course is the oldest course in continuous operation west of the Mississippi. Designed by golf and polo enthusiast Charles Maud, this inland course boasts a meandering, hilly layout that has challenged golfers for more than a century.
It was the original host of the California State Amateur-still played on Del Monte's narrow, tree-lined fairways and small,well-protected greens-and continues to serve as one of the three courses on which the Callaway Golf Pebble Beach Invitational is played.
Adjacent to Del Monte™ Golf Course, the Del Monte Pavilion offers an inviting outdoor setting for any special event. Whether you are hosting a corporate outing or a tournament awards ceremony, all events are impeccably catered by the Lodge at Pebble Beach.

Good value for the money
It would have been nice to hit some balls to warm up before the round but overall it was a good value for the money considering the extremely high prices of the surrounding resort courses.
Del Monte always delivers
Del Monte was in great shape for early spring conditions. Greens and bunkers were top notch. Looks like they'd scored the fairways recently, but didn't take away from the playability at all. New tee box sod on several holes have filled in nicely and all were open for use. #13 tee shot from the whites is getting more difficult as the oak trees/bushes in the ravine are making the fairway, and thus your fellow golfers, hard to see. A trim is in order.
great time on the course
Del Monte Golf Course delivered a great overall experience from start to finish. Check-in was quick and efficient, making it easy to get settled and ready to play without any hassle. The restaurant staff was friendly and attentive, and the food came out quickly with plenty of time to spare before teeing off..
The starter gave our group a warm welcome, setting a positive tone for the round. Out on the course, the beverage cart attendant was pleasant and made multiple rounds, which didn’t go unnoticed. Pace of play was smooth for a weekday morning, allowing us to enjoy the round without feeling rushed or delayed.
Even with a slight drizzle, course conditions held up well and didn’t impact play. Overall, a well-run course with great service. I’d gladly come back.
Great Experience
Staff were friendly, welcoming and helpful. The pace of play was on time. Course condition was great and a little challenging for a intermediate player. Highly recommend
No Marshall to be found
Walking Foursome in the group ahead had no concern for pace of play. Inexperienced and hit it all over the course--no big deal. However, they refused to play ready golf on the fairways or greens. A foursome that is walking will always be slow but they usually have some mutual respect for other players. I have been pestered by marshals on this course when it was not my fault BUT today I did not see one at all.
Del Monte
This course is the oldest west of the Mississippi. It's like 120 years old and in absolutely fantastic condition with a fantastic staff. I played a 9:20 tee time, and it was only $90. 100% worth the money. In honor of the 120 years I gave almost a stroke per year. LOL
Couldn’t be more Satisfied beautiful course with immaculate fairways pace of play was smooth sub 4 hour round in the morning plus a Super Feiendly and Attentive staff. Coming from Santa Cruz Its definitely one of my top 5 public courses to play in the Monterey Bay…coming back
Monterey Gem
Excellent day at Del Monte. Course was in excellent condition for the last day of February. A few temporary tee boxes as several holes were being resodded. Greens were excellent as always. Look forward to my next round soon.
Course was very wet due to weather but we excepted it would be. That is why I only gave it 4 stars this time. Staff is always friendly. Always a fun place to play
Marshal - Construction
Tee’d off on 2/13/26 about 10–15 minutes after our original 9:40 tee time, which was no big deal. We were enjoying a beautiful, relaxing round with two new players and my wife. At the 8th tee box, I even commented to the group how nice it was that no one was pushing us and we weren’t holding anyone up.
Right after we teed off, the marshal approached us and asked, “Is everything alright?” I said yes, we were enjoying the day. He then stated that we were 15 minutes behind and that the group in front of us was already on the 9th hole. I was surprised, especially since there was an open hole behind us. I explained that we had teed off 10–15 minutes late and that we weren’t holding anyone up. He seemed to understand.
However, when we reached the 11th hole, he approached again and told our group we needed to pick up the pace. At that point, the group behind us was still in the fairway of the previous hole — there was no possible way we were slowing anyone down. When I pointed this out, his response was that the group behind us “didn’t want to put pressure on us,” which frankly didn’t make sense. I’ve been golfing for over 45 years and play 2–3 times a week. When a group is playing slow and there’s open space ahead, the group behind typically puts a bit of pressure on to close the gap. That simply wasn’t happening.
By the 14th hole, we had caught up to the group in front of us and were waiting. On 15, we waited nearly 10 minutes to tee off. Meanwhile, the group behind us never caught up.
In addition, there was construction on at least seven holes — new tee boxes, water lines, or other work. There were compactors, tractors, and excavators moving around the course. At times, equipment was running within 30 feet of us while we were teeing off. The noise was so loud we couldn’t even have a normal conversation. For the price we paid, there should have been at least a significant discount given the disruption.
On a positive note, the lady in the pro shop was very pleasant, and the staff handling food and drink service were great.
Overall, while we enjoyed the company and the day itself, the repeated pace-of-play warnings and the heavy construction left a disappointing impression.
Fab course, one of my favorites.
Great layout and conditions. One of the best around Monterey. Highly recommended. I've been playing it since 1980, still love it.
