This is the kind of place the locals actually play. The kind of place that offers regular Sunday champagne brunches and New Year's Eve parties in the clubhouse. Mesquite's low green fees bring them in (under $100 even in Palm Springs' ultra expensive peak season). Its mountain backgrounds and golf along the bottom of a streambed are what bring them back.
Mesquite Golf and Country Club in Palm Springs isn't a long course by any stretch of today's standards. It comes in at 6,312 yards from the back tees. Locals find that fits just right. Again, it's Palm Springs. Many of the locals are cashing retirement checks between drives. A little shorter does not necessarily mean uninteresting though.
There are eight small lakes out on Mesquite and when the water's running in the stream it plays with some kick. At the same time, it's very friendly to women, seniors, anyone who finds distance to be a challenge. The 366-yard par-4 ninth is illustrative of a course that regularly lets average hackers go for the green.

DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY
This course may have been a nice course in the 60s, but, it has fallen into disrepair. No snack Bar. There are only chips and candy bars in the pro shop and a refrigerator with two or three brands of soda and water available. The clubhouse looks like it is in need of much repair. It looks like the owners pretty much walked away a year or two ago and did nothing to keep it updated. When you drive in there is a nice display of landscaping and flowers. Then you get to the parking lot and it is seriously in disrepair with weeds growing through cracks in the asphalt and has the appearance of an abandoned property. The course itself is so-so. You can tell at one time a long time ago it was probably a nice course but time has taken it's toll with a bridge that has fallen forcing you to drive your cart across the adjacent fairway to get over the dry creek and again over the adjacent fairway to get back on your fairway. Rather than fix the bridge, they put up a sign warning you to look out for golfers!! Guess they just don't have funds for upkeep/repairs. And, to top it off, our cart ran out of juice on the 13th fairway. Is it worth the $50? Maybe as a hometown course but definitely not up to Palm Springs area courses. If you are vacationing in Palm Springs to golf, don't bother with this course. There are too many really nice courses to play and add to your Palm Spring visit.
Fabulous, Funky Gem
The views are extraordinary, the staff friendly, and the course filled with interesting holes. The place is in ragged shape, partly because a big chunk of it was washed out in a flood a few years ago. However, it's also one-half to one-third the price of more manicured Coachella Valley courses, and has its own integrity and charm. Feels like my new favorite muni.
DON'T BOTHER
ONE good thing, the greens are fast and smooth. Hard though and don't hold approach shots well.
The rest of the course is a disaster. A once proud and historical track in Palm Springs, this course suffers from neglect and obviously lack of money.
Too many things to go into detail, just spend $10 more almost anywhere and play a good course.
Avoid Mesquite for now
The course is in relatively poor condition. The fairways and greens need some help and care. Damage to the course from the floods of two years ago has not been repaired requiring several holes shortened and with temporary tee boxes. The carts are old and need to be replaced. The one I drove was about to “rattle apart”.
Golfers stay away.
Found out from local golfer that the course suffered from major flooding in the last year or so. No mention on Golf Now or the Pro Shop. Course is in terrible shape. Maybe okay in the past but not now.
Great Staff
The director of agronomy has done a wonderful job with the golf course the staff was so friendly in the pro shop in the entire property. I’ll Airbnb a place there before and it was completely brown to my surprise the golf course looks amazing the greens were perfect.
Much Improved
They have really done a great job there. Definitely upgraded from years past. Good value round.
Medium value
Tee boxes unlevel, bridges rough and one missing, adjacent holes a little close, sand very wet unplayable.
