This is the kind of place the locals actually play. The kind of place that offers regular Sunday champagne brunches and New Year's Eve parties in the clubhouse. Mesquite's low green fees bring them in (under $100 even in Palm Springs' ultra expensive peak season). Its mountain backgrounds and golf along the bottom of a streambed are what bring them back.
Mesquite Golf and Country Club in Palm Springs isn't a long course by any stretch of today's standards. It comes in at 6,312 yards from the back tees. Locals find that fits just right. Again, it's Palm Springs. Many of the locals are cashing retirement checks between drives. A little shorter does not necessarily mean uninteresting though.
There are eight small lakes out on Mesquite and when the water's running in the stream it plays with some kick. At the same time, it's very friendly to women, seniors, anyone who finds distance to be a challenge. The 366-yard par-4 ninth is illustrative of a course that regularly lets average hackers go for the green.

Lots of construction in terrible shape
Lots of construction and terrible shape
First of all understand and appreciate that they’re doing lots of work on this course, and they just reopened-
But some particulars, the bunkers were completely unplayable because they were a mix of grass dirt and sand… I don’t mean a couple spots of grass like fully grown in grass-
Second there was a mass of workers on the course on one par five they had a truck and a trailer park about 30 yards in front of the green… Directly in front of the green so you either had to lay up so you could hit a third shot over the truck or play away from the green… There were many other spots of construction and work to the course, which is fine but They should post and notify… Also even without the construction I was just very disappointing in the course condition… Paid $80, the next day play desert dunes for 60, and it was in immaculate shape
Good value
Course looks much better than in previous years. Looks like they are cleaning it up and doing needed maintenance. Good job. Will play again soon.
This was the worst conditions I’ve played. We should be refunded or advised and credited. After 2 hours drive from los angles
We drove two hours from Los Angeles to play this course and the condition was terrible it we would never return we should be refunded or credit back please
Overpriced, course not in great shape, still a fun day of golf
Greens were fine, fairways with some ratty spots, some unplayable bunkers on the back nine in particular. Some interesting holes over the gullies that crisscross the course. You've got your palm trees and views of the mountains like all other courses in the Coachella Valley, and we had a good time. I wouldn't object to $80 in high season on a weekday if the course were in good condition, but. . .it's not.
Alcoholics take note- they weren't selling beer the day after Thanksgiving- don't know if this was a one-time occurrence or a regular thing- we did have time after checking in to run out to a nearby liquor store and sneak some on, but seriously? In all my years of golf I've never seen a course not sell beer unless it was a Sunday a.m. and not legal to do so.
Playing a savannah
I like the course layout and the variety of holes. The greens were in excellent condition, but the fairway grass was cut too high. Most of the fairways were cut so high that they felt like the first cut of rough or the second cut on most other courses. Result - I lost three golf balls that were hit down the middle of the fairway.
Disappointing
Could be a nice course but condition terrible. Grass on fairways and tee boxes way too long. Grass cuttings all over the course. Bunkers filled with weeds and cuttings -unplayable.
Very disappointing.
Don't waste your money
I would give jthis a zero if I could. Not worth the $22. The course is horrible with weeds all over the greens and mostly just a yellow desert landscape.
Staff was great. Price was great. Course needs work and water.
Great weather great friends and fun course
Great price great time great pace what more you need
BIG MESS
This course is in a horrible state. Looks like they've just stopped doing any maintenance. Fairways and greens are brown and there's holes everywhere on the course. There's no water on the course. It's all dried up. Just big dry craters left. There were thousands of gophers and gopher holes everywhere even on the greens. Three of them were sunning themselves on a tee box. A couple holes on the back nine were very confusing. No one knew how to get to them. Crossing the wooden bridges was very scary. They didn't appear safe. I feel bad giving such a bad review but the course is really a big mess.
Good Course for money
Fun course for the money. Most of the course is playable
Staff was excellent! Course was very dry greens had quite a bit of burnt out areas for middle of May !
