This is the kind of place the locals actually play. The kind of place that offers regular Sunday champagne brunches and New Year's Eve parties in the clubhouse. Mesquite's low green fees bring them in (under $100 even in Palm Springs' ultra expensive peak season). Its mountain backgrounds and golf along the bottom of a streambed are what bring them back.
Mesquite Golf and Country Club in Palm Springs isn't a long course by any stretch of today's standards. It comes in at 6,312 yards from the back tees. Locals find that fits just right. Again, it's Palm Springs. Many of the locals are cashing retirement checks between drives. A little shorter does not necessarily mean uninteresting though.
There are eight small lakes out on Mesquite and when the water's running in the stream it plays with some kick. At the same time, it's very friendly to women, seniors, anyone who finds distance to be a challenge. The 366-yard par-4 ninth is illustrative of a course that regularly lets average hackers go for the green.

Good value in downtown Palm springs
This course has some nice holes, and others that are just difficult due to gulleys of sand and trees. The general manager is really working hard at improving the course, and it has potential. The driving range is nice, beautiful view of the mountains. A good value, especially after 2:00
2nd Trip Around Mesquite This Trip
Day after Christmas and GolfNow had Mesquite at a discount, so I chose to play here again after having a couple days rest. It rained heavily the day before Christmas and that water had washed a temporary pathway through the ditch that runs across 10, 16, 17 & 18 away. 10 and 17 were playing much shorter than their regular yardages. Hence the discount. Again in a jet, I played in under 2 hours. The shorter 10th and 17th provided easy birdies for me. The card for the course is a bit confusing. It lists the 16th as a 290 yd par 4, but signage, teeing ground and markers have it as a 200 us par 3. It’s really a par 71, don’t know what the rating and slope should actually be. Still satisfied as the conditions did not change the outcome of my game.
A Bit Rough
It was tough to get any info online about Mesquite before my trip to Palm Springs. It was located about 7 minutes from the house we rented, so I was all about getting the 1st time of the day and playing quickly while warming up for Desert Dunes the following day. Although I ran into many of the worker's, I think the course has struggled with revenues and they have not been able to maintain it at a high level. I like the layout, 5 par 5’s, all scoreable, nice set of par 3’s as well. Played well, so no real issue as the conditions were not a detriment to my round. Played in just over 2 hours in a jet, so was home almost before everyone at the house got up!! Success!
Last three holes wasn’t was on card playing card
Hard to find some holes to go to next . The last three hole didn’t seem to be the ones ones on the playing card.
Mesquite Golf Club
The staff was welcoming and friendly. Very few golfers so pace of play was great. Course is nice and green. Greens are slow. The fairways are a bit patchy and not a lot of roll. They are trying to make a go of it however some areas are looking quite run down. This course has been around forever and we hope they get a $ boost and come back to the course of old.
Rough around the edges
This was a heck of a course in its day but has barely survived it’s still a good play nobody on it played 18 in 3hrs
Needs work
I knew the course was going to be in rough shape going in. It was worth the $45 I paid, but I wouldn't pay more than that. It was enjoyable overall, but the course is in poor condition. With all the drawbacks, it was still fun.
Avoid this course
This is by far the worst course I have played. We played on Sunday morning and got done in little over 3 hours as no one was out there. It is great if you like like uneven tee box with 1" rough, piles of dead tree off the fairway, bunkers with grass and rocks and slow and damaged greens. During our 12 days trip, we have played other great courses for around the same price. I would try Shadow Hill South, Mountain Vista, Desert Dunes instead.
I am Surprised GolfNow Lists This Course!
What a disaster! The course is in terrible condition. Not worth 10% of what we paid. On the front nine, the heavy grass clippings were all over the course. On the back, tee boxes were non-existent - merely, staked out in the fairway. As embarrassed as the groundskeeper should be, GolfNow should be embarrassed for listing this course.
Sad
The course has been left to rot.
It seems they wanted to sell the land for more homes but having trouble with approval. There was some work being done on some bunkers so maybe they are going to try and save the course but it will take a lot of work to make it playable. They should reduce green fees until the course is in better condition. Won’t play there again.
Bad course
It’s in very bad condition and bad long fairways and tee boxes. We should be warmed and refunded
