River Run Golf Links is a municipal course owned by the city of Bradenton. Unlike many others in the area, golfers won't have to worry about hitting homes on this non-residential course. The layout is player friendly enough for all skill levels to enjoy but it's also a fair test that is anything but boring. The two nines are referred to as the River Nine, the front, and the Pirate nine. The golf course is mostly straightforward and a pleasure to walk, although there are carts available. Ancient oak trees draped with Spanish moss provide shade and scenery throughout the course. Water has a prominent presence, coming into play on almost every hole. Some of the holes are tight and can be quite challenging but beginners can still approach River Run Golf Links with confidence.

Enjoyed the round.

Course was in fair to good condition for this time of year. Staff was friendly. Was hoping to hit some practice balls off the grass, but had to use mat.

favorite course

This is Bradenton's municipal course and as such, you wouldn't expect a great course but that is where the surprise exists. It's definitely my favorite of the area in a course where you can play without a second mortgage on your home. The staff makes the best impression to start with and then the golf is very enjoyable too. It's not a real difficult layout but it is not boring either. They get a LOT of play so be prepared to have a lot of company but staff seems to be always in the right place to monitor play. Greens are healthy for the time of year but as you would expect in dormancy, they are rather slow. For me, it's the best value for the money anywhere within 50 miles.

Fun course

Course was in good condition and pace of play was great. Tee times were even a little ahead of schedule. Would recommend giving this course a try.

Unacceptable Behavior from the Staff

We booked through Golf Now and the description is very confusing. The course clearly messed up when providing the information in the Golf Now system. All available slots on golf now state a 9 hole rate but the fine print says the number of players in your group - 4 players | 18 holes | cart included. We signed up thinking it was any other good Golf Now deal and our receipt confirmed we were slated to play 18holes. Upon arrival to the course the cashier was not only incredibly rude and well as incorrect, but he moved our tee time up and had us only playing the back nine. Once I was able to locate my confirmation email I showed him our correct fee time and that we were confirmed to play 18 holes. So he begrudgingly radioed the marshal to allow us on hole number one in our original slot which was still open on a fully booked day (I’m sure because that’s what we signed up for originally). We teed off on hole one, hit our approach shots onto the green and then the cashier came rolling up in his card yelling at us that we had to pay for an additional nine holes, he had changed his mind as was claiming that where my receipt said we were booked to play 18 holes, that that was just a course description. So now he’s wrong two times and being an absolute jerk about it which naturally ruined the round almost as soon as it started. He told us that once we hit the turn he was charging us if we wanted to continue regardless of what my receipt says. A few holes later, the head golf pro came out to us (so now our play has been halted two times.) and told us that we would need to pay for the back nine that where our receipt says 18 holes is just a course description. I explained to him that we were cleared to play 18 after I presented my receipt and then told that we couldn’t. I also claimed that I was incredibly disappointed in how the cashier yelled at us and was totally out of line. I also explained that this isn’t our fault, this is something they will have to work out on their end with Golf Now because I have a receipt that shows we signed up for 18 and that it absolutely is not a course description. He eventually agreed to both talk with the A-hole at the cash register and allow us to finish our full 18 hole round at the rate we paid and had a receipt for. I will give the Golf Pro credit. He was very cordial and respectful. To top it off, they had just sanded all the greens and they were in terrible condition.

Overall, I absolutely cannot recommend this place. Worst experience I’ve had and to make matters worse, we played this place the year prior on the exact same deal and had zero issues. If you’re going to take this golf now deal and it says a 9 hole price but has 18 holes in the fine print, double and triple check before you book! I’d play it safe and find another course, you absolutely won’t find people that treat you worse than this course does.

Being fairly new to Florida this is one of my favorite courses out of about a half a dozen I’ve played. Everything is always exceptional from, booking, check in, picking up cart to the layout and condition of the course.
