Enjoyable, relaxing core routing with updated bunkering
Myrtlewood has made huge strides as a multi-course facility in the last decade, between renovations to both of its golf courses and clubhouse. It is now one of the best of the middle-tier places to play in the Grand Strand, and its proximity to the airport makes it a perfect spot for first and/or last rounds on a trip. PineHills, in particular, is an ideal first course for a winter trip because of its relatively open-plan routing that only has out-of-bounds in play around the perimeter.
PineHills’ back nine is the stronger side here, with the run from the par 5 13th hole to the clubhouse featuring a lot of interesting shots. Architect Dan Schlegel’s recent bunker renovation included creating a clever centerline bunker on the par-4 16th that prompts a decision off the tee for every golfer. With the most recent work at PineHills complimenting a renovation a few years ago at the Palmetto course, Myrtlewood is better than ever.
Pleasantly Surprised
What a nice track. Middle of November, greens were superb, fair pace and true. Fairways and layout were excellent. If you are playing on a windy day, be sure to club up. Sand traps were in great shape. You can tell the greens staff takes pride in giving the customer a memorable and fair round. Thanks Pine Hills.
Great course!
First time playing at Myrtlewood, played Pine Hills course and will return to play Palmetto. Course was in good condition, a few soggy spots, but nothing to mess up your round. Staff was friendly and personable. Can’t wait to return.
Mid Oct Myrtlewood
Course was in great shape throughout the entire round. Played from the whites tees which left me lots of wedge shoots into the greens. Set up with several holes to accommodate right hand players in my opinion. Greens was in good shape as well. Paid $104 which is what it is. The rough is very hard to find your ball in so stay in the fairway! Pro shop had a nice selection of merchandise. Played with a resident and he mentioned the course is normally slammed, but mid Oct is when it slows down and not as busy. I’d recommend Myrtlewood to all golfers. Enjoyed it a lot.
The Starter made the experience!
The course was good, pace of place was slightly slow. The Starter was wonderful and made the experience at Myrtlewood better! The Pro Shop staff and restaurant staff were exceptional.
Good company
We Showed up early. We were paired up with a couple of good guys who were playing a second round (replay from Palmetto). We found the Pine Hills course was a little easier than Palmetto. Also, the course was in a little better condition. But the greens were definitely more difficult. Weather was perfect. Pace was good. No serious issues. I'd play again. One not so great thing. Merchandise in the clubhouse was way overpriced. $50 for a ball cap. That's a joke 😃
