Ocean View Municipal Golf Course

Practically no one in front and no one behind us. This was fantastic. Staff is great. Course layout is interesting. The greens and the fairways could be a little bietter. But for the money, you can’t beat it.

Hi the greens have improved since I was last here but round the pins they need trimming up very rough round the edges

Everything about this course is pretty good except the fact that the greens need a lot of improvements.

The putts do not have a true roll due to poor upkeep but, hey, at least the price is right.

I live close to OVGC, so it's the most convenient to play. Also, it's usually one of the less expensive courses to play. I booked a tee time on what I knew was going to be one of the hottest days of the year. I pulled I to the parking lot to see maybe 10 cars. *Warning sign #1. I had prepaid through Teeoff.com, so I simply checked in at the desk. They informed me they are in the process of aerating/stripping the greens. *Warning sign #2. We played anyway. With nobody ahead of us, we played in less than 3 hours! However, the course was just terrible. The tee boxes are brown, dormant grass, and the fairway are rock hard. The greens were awful. We took a two-putt maximum! I understand course maintenance, but OVGC is really fallen off. I won't be playing here again anytime soon. And I nearly bought the "membership" this year! Glad I didn't.

Got behind a extremely slow threesome. Greens recently aerated and sanded, so putting was a challange.

Greens were horrible. Not aeration horrible but dirt with ground in sand and patches of grass.

Old school course with tree lined fairways. Tees, fairways and bunkers were in fair shape but the whole course was dry and hard. The worse greens I’ve probably ever played. Not much grass on the greens but plenty of weeds, sand, dirt and bumps. Putting was impossible. You had to be lucky to make a putt because the bumpy conditions caused balls to bounce all over the place. That’s no exaggeration. I played with family who live in Norfolk and they said the conditions have deteriorated in the past few years. The pro shop staff said the greens were slow to come out of dormancy this year. That may be so but I played Sewell Point (another local Norfolk course) a day later and their greens were pristine. Both courses have Bermuda grass.

The course has a 4 out of 5 rating not sure when they played the course. But right now the course is in the worst state that I have seen a course in. I understand stand the greens had been aerated. But even under the sand there were bare spots in the greens and the tee boxes looked like they have not moved them in years. The overall condition was very bad. The pace of play was very slow. I think because of the greens. Would not recommend this course to anyone.

Been playing this course for 30+ years. Not the most difficult course but can reach out and bite on occasion. Like many courses, the sand traps are in most cases hard packed sand and generally, a loft or pitching wedge is a better choice. Greens were just being prepared for the season so they are difficult. I will give it a month before playing there again.

It’s a popular course so it can get backed up keeping you waiting at the tee box 5-6 minutes each. I wish they had a marshal spreading out golfers switching starts from 1st tee and 10th.

The staff - #1!

I've enjoyed playing OV in the past, but I'm not going back. The greens are the worst I've ever played. The greens, and I mean every green, contained a combination of bare dirt and tufts of grass scattered about. This was aeration with sand. This was an epic failure of greenskeeping.

Beware! Having travelled from Toronto, we thought a cheap first game to get us warmed up would be a good place to start. Staying in Williamsburg, the drive was 50 mins (going home because of the tunnel traffic was as over 90 mins!). The course was in rough shape ... old carts with torn seats ... rough putting green covered with lots of tree debris .. bellied/sandy tee boxes with little grass ... with zero "views" and zero "Ocean Views". Even with back-to-back birdies on 16 and 17 it's the last time we make the drive the Norfolk to play this course.
