The Grand Bear Golf Course
About
Unlike some Jack Nicklaus golf courses that have earned a reputation for being among the world's most difficult, mid- and high-handicappers stand a fighting chance at the Grand Bear Golf Course. Nicklaus offers wide fairways before the sprawling woods take over on either side, most bunkers aren't horribly steep, and greens generally have room in front to run a shot up. The winding Biloxi River helps build Grand Bear to a dramatic finish. The par-3 14th hole plays through a chute of woods to a green guarded by the river below that runs along diagonally, punishing hooked shots left short. After another par 3 on the 16th that plays with the river to the left, the 17th once again plays over the river on the drive, then parallel to the hole. The 18th hole plays long and uphill back toward the clubhouse.

Great staff
With enjoyed the day on the course. Staff was friendly and helpful. Pace of play 3 1/2 hours enjoy Grand Bear everytime we play here.
Loud locals
Really enjoyed the course. Range was closed due to wet conditions which was beyond the staffs control. Had a group behind us with music blaring from their cart. A Marshall on the course would have been nice, doubt they would have allowed that.
Great course - average over priced food
Came to play golf - great conditions, excellent greens that rolled true and fast. A little muddy in places as a result of recent rains. Great course. Food was average and staff was unaccommodating (missed breakfast by 5 minutes and was told had to get a hot dog and chips with a coffee - for $10 each). I know, resort course but since I support the casino (we all do) - would have been nice if they were a little more service focused.
But a great course for golf.
Nice Course
Thanks to Golf Advisor we had a special rate. The course was very wet due to rainfalls before and we could not drive on the Fairways. The drivingrange was also closed due to the weather and we had to pay full greenfee for our fourth person. This should have been reduced because of the conditions. Obviously not necessary for a Jack Nicklas course!
Must play
Always a great experience! Course is always in excellent shape with tees available for every type of golfer. Would play here every opportunity available! Located in the Desoto National Forrest, very peaceful and beautiful!!!!
Slow play
Course was nice; however, 5 1/2 hours to play 18 holes made a usually fun outing miserable. Course could use marshals to help facilitate pace of play.

Great Course Of Classic Design
I've played the course and absolutely enjoyed playing here. The greens are fast, smooth, and in great condition. The staff are also very nice and friendly.
Must play
Course was in very good shape. Staff was very friendly. Off the beaten trail, but very much worth the drive
Beautiful challenging course
Excellent friendly staff
Great food
Greens in great shape
Excellent
This place is amazing from tee box to putting green and all between. The staff are very courteous. The only negative thing is that there is ZERO breeze on this course because of the location so be careful and hydrate when playing in the heat of summer.
great golf course
played the course from the senior tees played fairly easy but from the tips this course would be a bear (no pun intended) . the course is in the middle of a national forest and really beautiful not a lot of water but plays though the woods huge bunkers. Had a wonderful time
Worth the drive
Top notch course. Tough course but chapelle going in a good way. Neat setting; located in a national forest with an entrance drive for half dozen miles presentsup a total golf experience. No houses anywhere around. Great value.
Well worth your time
Excellent layout that sits amidist DeSoto National Forest. The undisturbed and beautiful surroundings really added to the experience of "getting away."
The only minor negative of note was the bunkers were quite inconsistent: some were raked, some could have used more sand while others had been completely ignored since the last good rain.
local player/ first timer
I've been playing for 5 years now and have never been able to play here til now . Wish I could have played it sooner. Absolutely gorgeous course. Best around here for sure. Very challenging tho . Can't wait to play it again.
Grand Bear
Grand Bear. Is my Favorite course on mississippi gulf coast. I will recommend this course to anybody.. Fairways and greens are perfect. Thanks for a great round!!!
Great Course! Fast Play!
It was a great day on the course. There were only maybe 4 groups on the course the day we went (Thursday). Driving range is open, practice greens are equal to course greens. Easy to make your way around all 18. The front nine brings you back to the clubhouse at the 9th hole. The back nine is really nice as it wraps along the Biloxi River. It's a great course and deserves more play on it from locals with a cost of $42 on GolfNow.
Incredibly Enjoyable
Staff friendliness too notch. The course is beautiful, and in great condition. Greens a little slow, but they run true nonetheless. Overall, the course is a lot of fun. Varying lengths on the par fours make for long and short approach shots, mixing it up as you go along. Excellent bunkering outlines your targets, but if you land in one, the sand is soft and playable (a few bunkers looked like GUR, but most were pristine). Play it.
Best bang for your buck
The greens roll true and the fairways are awesome. A really good test for a serious golfer.
