About
Unlike some Jack Nicklaus golf courses that have earned a reputation for being among the world's most difficult, mid- and high-handicappers stand a fighting chance at the Grand Bear Golf Course. Nicklaus offers wide fairways before the sprawling woods take over on either side, most bunkers aren't horribly steep, and greens generally have room in front to run a shot up. The winding Biloxi River helps build Grand Bear to a dramatic finish. The par-3 14th hole plays through a chute of woods to a green guarded by the river below that runs along diagonally, punishing hooked shots left short. After another par 3 on the 16th that plays with the river to the left, the 17th once again plays over the river on the drive, then parallel to the hole. The 18th hole plays long and uphill back toward the clubhouse.

Golfer Reviews
another nicklaus gem
i am a big fan of nicklaus courses, and this was no exception. very playable, but still plenty of challenges. very scenic, with lots of trees.
there are also some cool elevation changes and water in play.
the staff was very attentive, and made sure we had a great round. highly recommend checking out this course.
first timer
the course is deceptively challenging. What looks like an easy hole can bite you in a hurry. Greens are true but a little thin probably due to the winter weather we've had. Should green up nicely as it warms up. friendly welcoming employees work there.
Great Course
Staff is excellent - very helpful. Although we have had tremendous amounts of rain the course is still in good condition.
Nice play
The Grandview Bear is a course with a great layout. You will be challenged but if played under control there are chances to score. The greens are fairly quick and with undulations. I enjoyed playing this course.
Beautiful
Easily the most beautiful course on the coast. Wonderful design and quality make for a day where you want to take your time and take everything in. Staff was immensely friendly and helpful. Would recommend to anybody visiting the MS gulf coast to experience the beauty of Mississippi.
Loved this course
While traveling, I had a chance to play Grand Bear just a couple of days after a heavy rain and flooding. I was thoroughly impressed. From the service I received from the staff to the conditions on the course so soon after the rain really made this round an enjoyable experience. Yes there were some still wet spots, but the overall conditions were excellent and the course is designed to drain easily. Jack did an excellent job here. The course is very challenging an the greens were fast and well maintained. If I lived in the area this would be my regular go-to course. Don't pass up a chance to play here if you are in the area.
Total Solitude
Pros: course layout, greens were in great condition, staffs if very friendly and the maintenance team was very courteous, club house is beautiful (loved the view of it coming up hole 18).
Cons: no sign on main road directing you where to turn.
Can't wait to play this one again!
Loud locals
Really enjoyed the course. Range was closed due to wet conditions which was beyond the staffs control. Had a group behind us with music blaring from their cart. A Marshall on the course would have been nice, doubt they would have allowed that.
Great course - average over priced food
Came to play golf - great conditions, excellent greens that rolled true and fast. A little muddy in places as a result of recent rains. Great course. Food was average and staff was unaccommodating (missed breakfast by 5 minutes and was told had to get a hot dog and chips with a coffee - for $10 each). I know, resort course but since I support the casino (we all do) - would have been nice if they were a little more service focused.
But a great course for golf.
Nice Course
Thanks to Golf Advisor we had a special rate. The course was very wet due to rainfalls before and we could not drive on the Fairways. The drivingrange was also closed due to the weather and we had to pay full greenfee for our fourth person. This should have been reduced because of the conditions. Obviously not necessary for a Jack Nicklas course!
Must play
Always a great experience! Course is always in excellent shape with tees available for every type of golfer. Would play here every opportunity available! Located in the Desoto National Forrest, very peaceful and beautiful!!!!
Slow play
Course was nice; however, 5 1/2 hours to play 18 holes made a usually fun outing miserable. Course could use marshals to help facilitate pace of play.

Great Course Of Classic Design
I've played the course and absolutely enjoyed playing here. The greens are fast, smooth, and in great condition. The staff are also very nice and friendly.
Beautiful challenging course
Excellent friendly staff
Great food
Greens in great shape
Excellent
This place is amazing from tee box to putting green and all between. The staff are very courteous. The only negative thing is that there is ZERO breeze on this course because of the location so be careful and hydrate when playing in the heat of summer.
great golf course
played the course from the senior tees played fairly easy but from the tips this course would be a bear (no pun intended) . the course is in the middle of a national forest and really beautiful not a lot of water but plays though the woods huge bunkers. Had a wonderful time
