The Grand Bear Golf Course
About
Unlike some Jack Nicklaus golf courses that have earned a reputation for being among the world's most difficult, mid- and high-handicappers stand a fighting chance at the Grand Bear Golf Course. Nicklaus offers wide fairways before the sprawling woods take over on either side, most bunkers aren't horribly steep, and greens generally have room in front to run a shot up. The winding Biloxi River helps build Grand Bear to a dramatic finish. The par-3 14th hole plays through a chute of woods to a green guarded by the river below that runs along diagonally, punishing hooked shots left short. After another par 3 on the 16th that plays with the river to the left, the 17th once again plays over the river on the drive, then parallel to the hole. The 18th hole plays long and uphill back toward the clubhouse.

Great Course
Love this golf course, my favorite on the coast. The course is always in excellent condition and the staff is always friendly and helpful.
Great course, excruciating pace of play
Beautiful layout, interesting holes, course in great condition. We were a twosome and after 2 holes caught a 5-some (yes, they are allowed). Thought we could skip a hole but realized there were several 4somes in front of the 5some. It seems there was some event that day. Called Proshop and asked if we can play the back and was told it was busy but we can try going to 16 or 17. Ended up playing 17 18, then 3-16. Caught the same 5some on 13 & of course waited on every hole until we mercifully finished on 16. Took 4 1/2 hours, which for a 2some was torture.
Will play it again but maybe early or midweek. Avoid Fridays and weekends like the plague.
Friendly staff, nice clubhouse. Was not able to try the food since we had to leave as soon as we finished playing.
Serenity in forest
Should be on your bucket list when traveling the Mississippi Coast.

Beautiful place
Great staff
Awesome course
it was hot they had a couple bottles of water iced on each cart .
Excellent course
This course was in excellent except for a couple tee boxes. No complaints and would go back again as soon as I got a chance to. People were great! One of the best courses in south Mississippi. Keep up the good work and can't wait to play again!
overall a good experience
Really like the course, tough enough but not overly punishing. Course Conditions were good to excellent.
I found the little things lacking I.E. no towels on carts, no tees on carts or at starter, no beverage cart on this after 4th of July day (probably a slow day for the course. The amenities in the lockers rooms were bare when compared to like clubs.
Staff was friendly.
Not quite up to par
Played here several times but shocked to find the greens to be the worst I've ever seen. Mind you, they were better than most muny courses but below the standard I had been accustomed to. Maybe weather had something to do with it, cause it did look like the greens would/could/should be back to high standards before mid summer. This is not a knock, just an observation and opinion. Otherwise course in great shape.
Awesome Course
Takes you back to old courses ..... Only you and nature , no houses or automobile noise..... The course is challenging yet easy to score for a bogey golfer such as myself.
Poor recuperation after aeration
I love this course and play there whenever possible, but not one green rolled true of the 18. I'll be back but not for another 6-8 weeks.
What a course
To me, this is the best course for the price on the coast. The staff is always friendly, and the club house is great!
Trouble with the greens
The poor conditions of the greens was a major distraction on an otherwise enjoyable day at the Grand Bear. Not worth the high rate.
Secluded Nicklaus design deep in the lowcountry woods
I forgot about the long, winding road that takes you deep into the woods before arriving at the gates of Grand Bear Golf Club, one of the best destination courses on Mississippi's Gulf Coast.
Nicklaus-designed Grand Bear is an amenity of the Harrah's Gulf Coast casino in Biloxi. But unlike Fallen Oak, which is an amenity of Beau Rivage (MGM), you don't HAVE to be a guest of the hotel to play here, and green fees, topping out at just over $100, is much more affordable.
There isn't all that much comparison of Fallen Oak to really any of the other courses on the Gulf Coast, but Grand Bear does offer great amenities and a secluded, quiet round of golf designed by a top architect. I favor The Preserve a little more for its hole variety over Grand Bear, but both are very good options when you're ready for a break from the casinos or the beach. The staff and neat lodge-looking clubhouse will definitely make you feel like a high-roller.
another nicklaus gem
i am a big fan of nicklaus courses, and this was no exception. very playable, but still plenty of challenges. very scenic, with lots of trees.
there are also some cool elevation changes and water in play.
the staff was very attentive, and made sure we had a great round. highly recommend checking out this course.
first timer
the course is deceptively challenging. What looks like an easy hole can bite you in a hurry. Greens are true but a little thin probably due to the winter weather we've had. Should green up nicely as it warms up. friendly welcoming employees work there.
Great Course
Staff is excellent - very helpful. Although we have had tremendous amounts of rain the course is still in good condition.
Nice play
The Grandview Bear is a course with a great layout. You will be challenged but if played under control there are chances to score. The greens are fairly quick and with undulations. I enjoyed playing this course.
Beautiful
Easily the most beautiful course on the coast. Wonderful design and quality make for a day where you want to take your time and take everything in. Staff was immensely friendly and helpful. Would recommend to anybody visiting the MS gulf coast to experience the beauty of Mississippi.
Loved this course
While traveling, I had a chance to play Grand Bear just a couple of days after a heavy rain and flooding. I was thoroughly impressed. From the service I received from the staff to the conditions on the course so soon after the rain really made this round an enjoyable experience. Yes there were some still wet spots, but the overall conditions were excellent and the course is designed to drain easily. Jack did an excellent job here. The course is very challenging an the greens were fast and well maintained. If I lived in the area this would be my regular go-to course. Don't pass up a chance to play here if you are in the area.
Total Solitude
Pros: course layout, greens were in great condition, staffs if very friendly and the maintenance team was very courteous, club house is beautiful (loved the view of it coming up hole 18).
Cons: no sign on main road directing you where to turn.
Can't wait to play this one again!
