Great Staff and Course
Great Course. The staff were outstanding. We played this course twice while on vacation to Alexandria VA. Both starters we very personable. Gave us tips on how to play the course. Also checked on us a few times during play. Really enjoyed this golf course and will return if I'm in the area again.
Great course
Great course, I'm a member here. Fairways have finally turned green from the winter and greens are in great shape.
Decent Course, Extremely SLOW
Played as a twosome, and was paired-up with another twosome from white tees. Overall course was decent. Greens running very fast, but actually held on high-medium pitch shots. Fairways were terrible...almost like a bowling alley lane. They need water! Bunkers were in great shape on majority of holes with just a few hard pan. Need more course marshal presence during play. Foursome in front of use were playing from blue tees although their skill level was more appropriate for white tees. It took them 25 minutes to play one of the par 5's. Numerous practice swings followed by flubbed/skulled shots were the norm for this group...that's why you need a course marshal out there doing his/her thing. Starter (Mr. Best) was very courteous and professional. He told us right away that tee times were running 20 minutes behind (understandable since this was Memorial Day morning). He had all groups on track at No. 1 tee box. Grounds crew should be more cognizant of approaching golfers. Witnessed on several occasions them watering a green as soon as the group in front departed. Never acknowledged that we were getting ready to hit our approach shots, and made no effort to allow us to hit BEFORE they watered the green. We had to holler at them to get their attention to let them know we wanted to hit. They also continued watering around us as we were putting. I know they have a job to do, but a bit of etiquette/courtesy would have been appropriate. Paid less than $50 for the round which is fairly decent for a muni on a holiday weekend.
Great wooded course
Forest Greens is a beautiful, lush wooded course that sits right off of 95. Five sets of tee boxes make for nice varying challenges. The course is in really good shape for this time of year, and at times it felt like it was a pricate course on a Sunday AM. The course has multiple elevated tee boxes that create some really scenic views. We will definitely return.
Love the course but the fairways need some attention.
We thoroughly enjoyed the round. The staff was friendly and professional. The course was mostly in good shape: loved the greens and the tee boxes but the fairways need attention as there were many thin spots on most of them. It seems that the grounds crew are rolling the greens as they are much speedier than I recall which is how I prefer them. The grill room was accomodating but the outdoor phone on #9 is out of service I decided not to order anything and just get a candybar instead of something cooked at the turn. They probly should trash that phone and post a direct dial number to the grill room for players to call from their mobile phones. Overall, I would love to golf here again and I hope they figure out the fairways situation.
Go Play
Good layout and visually appealing.
Tee boxes are good. Approaches are good. No weeds in the rough. Greens are good a bit bumpy and slow
Fairways are in rough shape and need help must move the ball
I would play there again
GO PLAY
Nice Course for the Money
Friendly Staff, Good Course, go Play! This course is well worth the time especially since it is a public course that is on the Prince William circuit. Stay out of the woods :o)
Slow but fun
The course was pretty good shape. Greens real nice and fair. Fairways were not yet green or filled in but I understand with the weather we have had the Zosha (Phonetic) grass in time it will come around. The pace of play was way too slow. They need marshal to monitor the pace.
Forest Greens
The fairways are still dormant, looks like a waste area on those PB Dye courses. Price could have been lower for me to give this a better review for the money.
Great Layout
Great course that will only become a better value once the weather turns and the fairways are able to develop. Greens are spectacular and the staff was exceptional!
this course has great features
this course is very good to play I will play this course again.
Forest Greens Review
I played with a friend of mine on 1/12/14. I am a member of a country club that is run by Bill Casper, thus I had to pay only $29 for 18 and a cart along with a bucket of balls. Can't beat that. The course has some kind of bermuda blend on the fairways and because it's winter the fairway grass is dormant. There were heavy rains in the days before so it was cart path only and the course was quite wet but still playable. The greens were in really good shape considering that it's a public course and for the time of the year. I am sure that I will be back at some point considering that I live about an hour and fifteen minutes north and I come a bit south on the weekends for courses that are open during the winter. Lastly, this course is quite challenging. The first time I played it was in April of 2013 and I was a 16 handicap and I struggled to break 90. I am much better now but it can still be quite a challenge even from the white tees due to the high slope. Don't be macho and do yourself a favor and tee it forward on this course because it will make it much more enjoyable.
Greens and fairways....leaf free!
The golf course was in great condition. Nice smooth/fast greens. They keep 90% of the leafs off the fairways. Beautiful day 74* Sunny in Virginia!
The course was in good condition and the staff was friendly.
Overall the course was in good condition. Due to the holiday, a 2 hour frost delay and a promotion for veterans the pace of play was very slow. The staff was helpful for first time golfers at this facility. I would return on a day that was not as crowded to enjoy the course and the experience. The new carts were very well maintained.
Course in good shape
The wind was up so that even added to the challenges presented by Forest Greens. The course was in good shape, some of the fairways were a little thin, but all in all in good shape. The secondary rough was very unpredictable, including bare dirt and rock in some areas, but like I always say, if you don't like the conditions of the rough, hit it in the fairway. The greens were as good as I have ever played on at Forest Greens, quite fast and very true. As usual a few too many ball marks from the ignorant golfers left behind, but that is how it seems to be nowadays. I find those people as disgusting as the slow players. If you get a chance to play at Forest Greens any time soon, I would say go for it. We found a nice $50 hot deal on golfnow, but even at $60 it is a good deal.
Good Course
This is a very good course with a better than average price for the DC metro area. The course had a good variety of holes and it was in very good shape. The greatest perk of this course is that there are no homes lining the course so you truly feel isolated, and that is very difficult to find in this area.
Love this course.
Forest Greens is my "go to" course. Great value for money, challenging with very friendly staff. I rediscovered this course about three years ago and play it regularly. It has some great holes, 9, 10 and 18 being my pick. Also has some good risk reward holes, 2 and 5 being the best examples. The course has never let me down condition wise despite the huge amount of traffic it has.
Bad management
Staff OK course kept on taking tee times despite a large outing.
Our tee time kept getting pushed back a small bucket of balls would have been a nice distraction. Despite asking several times if we could go out on the back 9 which was empty we were told not to. 45 minutes later we were told to go out from the back 9.The golf carts were in ridiculous condition. No windshield no pedal rubbers and filthy like they had had not been washed for ever.covered in a film of white residue The starter was doing the best he could to keep people entertained but no help from the rest of the staff. The management company Billy Casper golf has managed to screw up 3courses that I enjoyed playing and now will never go to. I'll pay $10.00 more and be $100.00 less frustrated
Carts and announcements
I play Forest Greens golf course every now and then, but I have to say that the carts they have are some of the worst in the area. All it takes is a rag/cleaner and about 15 minutes a cart, because they haven't been cleaned ever! Also, if your going to have walkers/kids/groups then please communicate that. Had a bunch of teenagers playing a "practice round" for a match tuesday...which is no problem if I had known about it. I would have played a different course that day.
Course demands control; errant shots equal lost ball in tall, thick natural brush
Superb tees; disappointing that fact that approach areas were being aerated on this day was not flagged before I booked tee times. Also my third player (78 yr old in law ) was unable to play due to medical development but course would not credit me/ give me my $$back. I understand reservation policy but will think more carefully when using golf now to book tee times. I could have called for tee time and paid less per player
