Keep it on the short grass
This course has a fine layout. Greens, fairways and tee boxes are nicely maintained, but the off-fairway areas are overgrown which "over-protects" the course's score and slows the pace of play. Best on weekdays.
We played at the wrong time.
We were told at the start of our round that the front 9 holes had been aerated and were closed and we'd have to play the back 9 twice to get in 18 holes, however, when we got to the end of the 18th hole, the 10th tee had been closed and there was no one to tell us what to do. We eventually learned that we were to play the front 9 for our second 9 holes, however, the fairways were very poor with all the aeration holes and pieces of hard dirt. In addition, the course managers had not put out water jugs at all the spots for the front 9 holes.
Good time
Certainly enjoyed our round. Grass driving range is a huge plus. Friendly staff. Greens were good. But fairways need work.
Wide open spaces
Overall good course. Fairways are open with low to medium rough. If you hit it left or right into the trees then it is probably a lost ball due to high grassy areas below the tree line. I would recommend playing on a weekday. Pace of play on Saturday was over 5 hours.
Early Weekday Play
This is an excellent course to play if you can get down there early or if you live close. Course is well maintained and in excellent condition right now. I've played this course as a two-some in 3 hours. For $39 you can't beat it. They have a grass range so you don't have to hit off mats.
It would be nice if they had a starter to enforce tee times.
Great Course
I try and play Forest Greens at least twice a month. Great course for the price, staff very friendly and helpful, course always in good condition. Can be somewhat challenging for the first time player as there are several blind holes. This is a gem of a courses hidden in Tirangle, VA just off 95.
Enjoyable Experience
Great Value, challenging yet scoreable. Nice track with many side hill lies and pitfalls. Picturesque...friendly staff.
early morning start
Course is in great shape. I wish snack bar staff was awake. Very tough to get snack bar service.
Drink prices to high
The course was great. The only complaint would be the prices for drinks and food.
Good for the money
Need more maintenance, specially the fairway. Green was just fair condition and needs more attention . Quite good layout. However, it;s little difficult for the first timer.
Great Day at Forest Greens
Excellent weather, great greens and fairways - too many slow people playing in front of us, but the weather made it comfortable to wait.
Pace of play
I was pleasantly surprised that the course was essentially empty after 4:30 pm.
Great Staff and Course
Great Course. The staff were outstanding. We played this course twice while on vacation to Alexandria VA. Both starters we very personable. Gave us tips on how to play the course. Also checked on us a few times during play. Really enjoyed this golf course and will return if I'm in the area again.
Great course
Great course, I'm a member here. Fairways have finally turned green from the winter and greens are in great shape.
Decent Course, Extremely SLOW
Played as a twosome, and was paired-up with another twosome from white tees. Overall course was decent. Greens running very fast, but actually held on high-medium pitch shots. Fairways were terrible...almost like a bowling alley lane. They need water! Bunkers were in great shape on majority of holes with just a few hard pan. Need more course marshal presence during play. Foursome in front of use were playing from blue tees although their skill level was more appropriate for white tees. It took them 25 minutes to play one of the par 5's. Numerous practice swings followed by flubbed/skulled shots were the norm for this group...that's why you need a course marshal out there doing his/her thing. Starter (Mr. Best) was very courteous and professional. He told us right away that tee times were running 20 minutes behind (understandable since this was Memorial Day morning). He had all groups on track at No. 1 tee box. Grounds crew should be more cognizant of approaching golfers. Witnessed on several occasions them watering a green as soon as the group in front departed. Never acknowledged that we were getting ready to hit our approach shots, and made no effort to allow us to hit BEFORE they watered the green. We had to holler at them to get their attention to let them know we wanted to hit. They also continued watering around us as we were putting. I know they have a job to do, but a bit of etiquette/courtesy would have been appropriate. Paid less than $50 for the round which is fairly decent for a muni on a holiday weekend.
Great wooded course
Forest Greens is a beautiful, lush wooded course that sits right off of 95. Five sets of tee boxes make for nice varying challenges. The course is in really good shape for this time of year, and at times it felt like it was a pricate course on a Sunday AM. The course has multiple elevated tee boxes that create some really scenic views. We will definitely return.
Love the course but the fairways need some attention.
We thoroughly enjoyed the round. The staff was friendly and professional. The course was mostly in good shape: loved the greens and the tee boxes but the fairways need attention as there were many thin spots on most of them. It seems that the grounds crew are rolling the greens as they are much speedier than I recall which is how I prefer them. The grill room was accomodating but the outdoor phone on #9 is out of service I decided not to order anything and just get a candybar instead of something cooked at the turn. They probly should trash that phone and post a direct dial number to the grill room for players to call from their mobile phones. Overall, I would love to golf here again and I hope they figure out the fairways situation.
Go Play
Good layout and visually appealing.
Tee boxes are good. Approaches are good. No weeds in the rough. Greens are good a bit bumpy and slow
Fairways are in rough shape and need help must move the ball
I would play there again
GO PLAY
Nice Course for the Money
Friendly Staff, Good Course, go Play! This course is well worth the time especially since it is a public course that is on the Prince William circuit. Stay out of the woods :o)
