Hernando Oaks Golf & Country Club

This was my first time.

At first glance as we pulled in was “oh lord the club house is a double wide and the carts are kept in a large canvas shed” I’ve seen places like this before that turned out to be less then desirable outings.

All first impressions went out the window as soon as we entered the pro shop.

The staff were very friendly down to earth. The pro shop had adequate merchandise selection and my buddy even picked up a $10 chipper.

I couldn’t find one thing to complain about on the course. It appeared taken care of by staff that know what there doing. The greens were huge!

Late Summer August. Greens had been recently aerated and top dressed which made putting somewhat a challenge. Large greens not target golf. Fairways were Ok and in good condition. Hit it in the rough and the ball sits down in the sparse bermuda. Tough getting it out for an approach shot. Pretty straight forward with a few slight doglegs. Overall it was a nice course.

Still one of the best courses in the area. Great layout, course was in good condition and greens were fast. The only reason for not giving the course a 5 star rating was that a few teeboxes were either sparse with grass or a hammer was needed to get t into ground. Some were in decent shape though. I was also expecting it to be wet with all the rain lately but that was not the case at all. Course was very playable and I highly recommend it to all skill levels!

Got a great price on a Hot Deal from Golfnow.com I've played there many times previously. It was a very hot day and played near noon. Very few folks on the course so pace was awesome. Always enjoy my round at this course.

I did not see any warnings online that they had just punched the greens so we instituted a 2 putt max because their condition. The only big complaint I have is the condition of the sand traps. Very little sand in them and many have grass/weeds growing in them. Also any ball that misses the fairway needs some time finding due to the thickness of the rough. I'll back after the greens heal some.

I played on a day right after a decently heavy night of rain. The course was definitely wet and had numerous spots where your ball could plug. I spoke with the marshal and he acted as if they were embarrassed with the course condition. I have played on much, much worse even with how wet it was so it goes to show they take great care of the facility when rain doesn’t prohibit mowing. The layout was very fun. The front nine really wasn’t anything special but the back nine strings together quite a few great holes. Each of the par 3’s were very nice and full of character. My favorite hole is the Par 5 18. It’s a classic risk/reward hole where a good drive from the right tees sets you up to cut off a bit of the water that borders the entire left side of the fairway. Overall, I wasn’t pleased about how Mother Nature treated the course the night before but I will certainly be back in dryer conditions.

Played a week ago right after the big rains so came back after it dried out a little. Greens a tad slow (except 17 which is perfect) but rolling nicely. The back tee boxes are pretty burnt out but flat, they weren't in play last week. Absolute no brainer with a hot deal !!

I’ve played this course many times. This has been the best conditions I have seen it in for a few years. Greens and fairways were excellent. Unique layout that forces you to make decisions. Sand bunkers were lacking sand and a bit muddy. However, can’t fault the course for that during the rainy season. Very good course with reasonable rates. You can tell the staff is working hard to make it the best they can be. Keep it up!

Hot, muggy, wet day. Tons of rain has the course saturated but they are doing an excellent job keeping it playable. Cart path only made it a long day and soggy feet. Greens are slow but very playable, fairways and rough in good shape. Tee boxes flat but soggy on some holes. Course layout is very enjoyable from the tips with some challenging holes. Only suggestion is all 4 par 3's played between 195 to 200 from the tips, which is the same shot 4 times. Rather boring. And the bunkers are basically small lakes, but not much you can do I suppose. Will definitely play this course again! *also the staff (pro shop and cart guy) were both polite and friendly.

Nice course greens fairways in good shape, the greens are starting to get crabgrass. But the is something that you have to tackle right away if not it can get away from you . But overall very challenging , from the Blues . Bunkers are in need of repair. But overall enjoy the day great day will be back. No Hole One.

Course was in great shape and well maintained except for the bunkers. It is hard to maintain sand bunkers this time of year in Florida due to all the rain. Can't really fault them for that. Tee boxes, fairways and greens were in great shape. Had a great day of golf and will be back for sure.

Fairways a little thin & hard. Greens overall quick & true. played in the afternoon so pace was how fast I could play. Definitely recommend the course

Played this course years ago when it was in good shape and stopped playing here when conditions became poor. Upon reading recent reviews we decided to visit and were amazed at the course conditions. The course is coming along great. Awesome layout and fairways. Greens recently aerated but you can see they will be great very soon when they heal up. Keep up the great work. We will for sure return soon.

Great course, but management needs to water the fairways. It’s Clay based, and gets hard when dry.
