About
Editor's Note: Course closed and redesigned as Cabot Citrus Farms.
The Pine Barrens at World Woods Golf Club is one of two championship golf courses at the club. Named after the numerous pine trees that cover the course especially along the fairways, it feels far removed from the Florida coasts. Tom Fazio designed the course and it is considered not only some of his best work, but one of the best courses in the state. It is a tight golf course that is notorious for its vast waste areas and bunkers. Although it has a modest length of 7,259 yards, there is plenty of length within the layout with many of the par 4s stretching past 400 yards. There are two small lakes that come into play. The fourth hole is one of the most well known, and most photographed, in the state. It is a par 5 with a treacherous waste area dominating the right side all the way to the green.

Course needs repairs
It is a challenging Course. The greatest need I see they have is to repair the paved golf pass. They are broken and badly need repairing
Overrated
Staff was very friendly and pace was reasonable although we waited on a lot of shots since we were a twosome; nevertheless, the course played in a little less than 4 hours. We found the conditions to be disappointing. Not sure if it's the result of COVID or if the bunkers are supposed to be waste bunkers and/or ground under repair but none of the bunkers have been attended to in a very long time. Grass growing in most of them and the edges overrun with grass. Fairways were playable but had lots of bad spots. Same with the greens. Lots of really rough, dry dirt spots on the greens. Cart path is a joke...concrete is broken and has lots of chunks that have heaved up. I wouldn't recommend this course and wouldn't play it again as it doesn't meet our expectations for a well-maintained course. Additionally, the bathrooms (both in the clubhouse and on the course) haven't been maintained in many many years. They were reasonably clean but desperately in need of fixing up.
Could be better
Love the course, but it needs some work. Several greens had problems on them with losing grass in spots. Still puttable if the blight is not in your line. Also several grassless areas in the fairways. Never seen it like this before. But for $17 was still worth it.
Great day, even though insanely HOT!!!
Course was in great shape overall. Only 2 holes had small patches of burn on the greens (this time of year I'll take that as a win as most courses have some on just about every green). Pace tightened up last half of back nine. I seemed to care less & less as I enjoyed an excellent turkey club sandwich which was delivered to us by the 10th hole! I will be back VERY soon, even if it is blisteringly hot again.
You gotta play it....
Everything has been said already by other satisfied reviewers....great place to play....worth the drive from anywhere....do it...!
WAY OVER PRICED
This place is in huge decline. They can't event keep the driveways in & out drivable. Don't pay these rip off prices when there's great golf in the area for 50% less. Frankly can't remember a worse golf course for the money.
great course
This is a beautiful course. Plan to the play the other course as well. The price was fantastic for the quality.
This course is a great layout.
The fairways and greens were in good condition, except for a few greens . Other areas in need of cleaning up and cutting.
The cart paths are in need of serious repair. These conditions have existed for a few years.
Unique Florida course
I have heard and wanted to play this course for years. We played a few days after a tropical storm came through the area and there no standing water. The course drains well. The layout and landscape is the most unique I’ve seen in Florida. There may elevation changes and the greens are a fair size that undulate. It felt as if we were on vacation out of state. I fully recommend this course.
Beautiful course in the middle of Pine Barrens.
Great course. Shot placement is critical on many holes. At over 5,800 yards, a little bit long for senior tees but a very wonderful course. By no means easy, but surely a whole bunch of fun.
Greens and fairways are in good shape after all the rain. Pace of play is fairly slow, but moved as you got into the round. Always a good deal in the summer.
The best public course in Florida
I love every single hole of this course.. Each hole has it’s unique beautify and each unique challenges. It’s a one hour and 15 minutes drive from where I live but I would love to drive and play there again every single week if I have the opportunity.
