At Red Rock Country Club, Arnold Palmer has created an escape from desert golf with a lush green course that forces golfers to think over their shots. As you're thinking, a waterfall could be crashing in the background. There are actually two Palmer courses here, but only The Arroyo is open for public play.

It measures in at 6,883 yards from the back tees and uses dramatic bunkering to set off its holes. The par 4s are particularly inventive, especially the 432-yard 4th. The par-3 seventh gives you great views of The Strip in the distance. The greens consistently run 10-11 on the Stimpmeter and the fairways are designed to funnel shots that are not overly wild back into decent lies.

"The Arroyo Course is what it is -- a playable course with stunning scenery and a smattering of decent golf holes," former TravelGolf.com writer Shane Sharp said. "It won't provide as memorable a round as Sin City's big-name resort courses, but the price is relative. If you're looking for a course to include in your annual Vegas rotation, Arroyo would be a nice addition, considering its conditioning and scenery."

Challenging if You're Having Trouble Off the Tee Box

If you're struggling to get off the tee box this course maybe a challenge. Played from the black tees and most of the holes have about 200yds desert/bush. There's some water, but nothing too crazy.

Sand, sand and more sand. When you do get off the tee box well pay attention to where you're aiming. Some of the fairway sand traps come into play based on your distance.

Stunning Beauty

Fairways and greens were in great shape. Played on a hot day and the cart girl was up to the challenge, she came around 4 times during our round. Most of the holes could be a signature hole they are that gorgeous.

Great views and seanery

The course was in good condition with many arroyos to deal with forcing a lot of course management which enjoyable. The greens were very hard to get the right read we played with a pair that plays there often and they were not much better at reading the greens. Lots of enjoyable driving and views between holes.

Classic desert golf course

Arroyo is an upscale place (the Arroyo course is the public side, there is a private 18 as well). Very pretty location to the west of the Strip with rock formations immediately to the west of the course. Classic "desert golf" layout with forced carries off almost every tee to reach something green. That said, from the black tees the carries were fair - if you got the ball in the air you would generally carry to fairway or rough. There is one long carry over water, but it is downwind. Big Greens. Staff was really friendly and it felt that we were getting an "upscale" experience. We did not have to wait at all during our round.

The course is not particularly narrow compared to others I have played in Vegas. However, the desert scrub areas were much harder to find balls in than we would have thought. BIG bunkers around all the greens (which themselves were large).

This course provided a great final location for our three day outing. Golfnow price was considered a good value by all four of us (we played on a Monday).

Great course. You can pick the tees according to your ability. Fun to play. It would have been nice to have hole descriptions for the player playing the course for the first time.

Decent course for the money

I have played many courses in Vegas. The greens are quick 11 on stump. Rough is thick. Only downside is if you play later there are a lot of slower golfers that haven't heard of pace of play

Overall a good course

Disappointed with the pace of play. I would mention too that the sand bunkers were crusty and the quantity of sand inconsistent. On one hole I very near broke my wrist because of the canvas just below the insufficient sand. Also it would be nice if the course host were visible more often... Like even once!

Very good course

The course is very good. Greens rolled true and fast. We were behind a tournament so front nine was slow but played really fast on the back nine. One of the better courses I have played in awhile. Layout is good and tough. Not a long course. I would highly recommend this course to anyone. Book it on golf now for a good rate

Nice scenery bit expensive

Course was in great shape. Designed for all levels of play. Holes are located far apart so lots of driving. Pace was okay, a little on the slow side (5 hour round). Lovely homes surround the course. More expensive than other courses in the area.

Weather Good, Track Fast.......

Played the Arroyo course on a quiet Wednesday minus the crowds. Started on #8, due to green-punching schedule, but worked out just fine, as the course is laid out in a links style (old school out nine and in nine). Greens were in excellent shape, even with the first 7 holes freshly punched. Fairways moderately wide, with no real forced carries, at least from the black tees (6,400 yards). I played the Red Rock CC (sister course) around 15 years ago when it first opened as a daily fee public course. Rolling fairways laid out between the housing development make for a very enjoyable round of golf.
