Hell's Point Golf Club
About
When Hell's Point Golf Club opened in 1982, Golf Digest called it one of the best new courses and it was ranked as one of the 100 best-designed courses in the country. Renowned architect Rees Jones designed the course. He incorporated the many natural features provided by the golf course's location in the Back Bay National Wildlife Refuge. The fairways are edged with saltwater marshes and Jones included his signature sculpted bunkers along the greensides. Just a stone's throw from the ocean, the golf course is as scenic as it is challenging. The second hole is one of southeastern Virginia's toughest golf holes with out-of-bounds to the left, trees to the right, and a sloped fairway that leads to a well guarded, double-tiered green. This par 4 is the no. 1 handicap hole at When Hell's Point Golf Club.

SLOW SLOW SLOW
Sorry to say this was the slowest round ever... I was paired with another single oh and his two kids (4 and 8) and another twosome of good players. I paid for 18 and played 9 as it took over 3 hours for 9 holes... the marshal just drove around and never pushed play... won’t play here again.
First time - would play again
From out of state and decided to play here. Course was well worth the price of admission. Played early AM - normal pace of play. Course in good condition and challenging.
Hidden gem.
I really like this course. It a fun layout and a great value. Hit it straight though because rarely do you see another fairway. I'll be back! Oh , and say hi to the goats from a neighboring farm.
Good course
Good course for the money. In the woods. No houses surrounding the course which makes it beautiful.
Worth the ride for first time.
I think this is a good course for a municipal-owned course. It takes some time to get to as not off major thoroughfare. Staff friendly. When weather is ideal, nice place to enjoy scenery and wildlife. Stands out for having challenging par 3s. Likely will need 1-2 clubs up. For water holes, a good drive can bend away from trouble if you can not bomb over.
Tee boxes and fairwary edges are in need of repair but fairway has very few browned or GUR areas. Bunkers need help but I have not seen any public course in HR that doesn't! Greens are in good condition, slightly slow.
Very good course and friendly people
I have played here before. It can be a tough course. It is a must play in VA beach if you are a GolfNow junkie like me. This year was a rainy year. The course is now dry and the ball runs. Because some holes are tight, you may want it to stop. If you have trouble hitting fairways. Bring some balls. I lost one. Greens in great shape.
Great layout - falling into disrepair
Played on a bright sunny Sunday morning. You can see that it was a great layout but flooding and poor maintenance has lowered its standard. The 18 holes are well laid out and challenging. Tees and greens are just average but could be so much better.
Excellent design
Well designed and challenging holes. Greens were very good. Tees and bunkers ragged. Still an excellent value and fun to play.
Great hard course
If you want a challenge, play this golf course. The course is wet, but the great design and the absence of development far outweigh the wet areas. This is just a good hard course that is absolutely the longest 6700 yard course I’ve ever played.
Great challenge and value.
Great challenge with tight fairways and multiple hazards. Great value and very scenic. Wild goats were surprising.
No Excuse
It was my first time playing here. It probably won't be my last because I like the lay out of The course. However, I understand the flooding is out of their control and five holes had to be shut down, but it would have been nice to know this before I booked the tee time there yesterday. I didn't find out until I showed up after a 45-minute drive. Yes they permitted two rounds of 13 holes for $25 but the wait at each hole would have been entirely too long. There is no excuse not to have this information posted on their website. In addition there was no excuse for no workers being out on the course trying to get the holes that were open in better shape, especially the sand traps. It was a beautiful day and there were no workers on the course, flooding is not an excuse for letting the course go like that. I hope this course can reach its potential.
Typical winter conditions greens were just aerated fairways are starting to come in should be playing nicely in another 4-6 weeks.
Herons ridge
Cart path only. Course was a tad damp, no roll
Great layout. Pretty challenging.
Great layout
Course was wet due to 2 incehes if rain the day before. Other than some sogginess it’s a great course for the money. Don’t find many new courses with tree lined fairways so it’s a challenge, yet a fun track. Saw some goats and other wildlife. No houses to speak of. Good course.
Cold day with warm friends. .
It was a cold day, however since I was with great friends it was warm. I just love the layout how it test our skills.
