Hell's Point Golf Club
About
When Hell's Point Golf Club opened in 1982, Golf Digest called it one of the best new courses and it was ranked as one of the 100 best-designed courses in the country. Renowned architect Rees Jones designed the course. He incorporated the many natural features provided by the golf course's location in the Back Bay National Wildlife Refuge. The fairways are edged with saltwater marshes and Jones included his signature sculpted bunkers along the greensides. Just a stone's throw from the ocean, the golf course is as scenic as it is challenging. The second hole is one of southeastern Virginia's toughest golf holes with out-of-bounds to the left, trees to the right, and a sloped fairway that leads to a well guarded, double-tiered green. This par 4 is the no. 1 handicap hole at When Hell's Point Golf Club.

The greens were in great shape. Photo submitted by wadedaffinee on 07/23/2014
Great challenge and value.
Great challenge with tight fairways and multiple hazards. Great value and very scenic. Wild goats were surprising.
No Excuse
It was my first time playing here. It probably won't be my last because I like the lay out of The course. However, I understand the flooding is out of their control and five holes had to be shut down, but it would have been nice to know this before I booked the tee time there yesterday. I didn't find out until I showed up after a 45-minute drive. Yes they permitted two rounds of 13 holes for $25 but the wait at each hole would have been entirely too long. There is no excuse not to have this information posted on their website. In addition there was no excuse for no workers being out on the course trying to get the holes that were open in better shape, especially the sand traps. It was a beautiful day and there were no workers on the course, flooding is not an excuse for letting the course go like that. I hope this course can reach its potential.
Typical winter conditions greens were just aerated fairways are starting to come in should be playing nicely in another 4-6 weeks.
Herons ridge
Cart path only. Course was a tad damp, no roll
Great layout. Pretty challenging.
Great layout
Course was wet due to 2 incehes if rain the day before. Other than some sogginess it’s a great course for the money. Don’t find many new courses with tree lined fairways so it’s a challenge, yet a fun track. Saw some goats and other wildlife. No houses to speak of. Good course.
Cold day with warm friends. .
It was a cold day, however since I was with great friends it was warm. I just love the layout how it test our skills.
Nice Pro and wait staff
Great price for the money. This is a long course where you have to hit the ball straight. Very challenging. Love this course.
Beautiful layout
Pretty course. Not in pristine condition because of all the rain over the last while. Would love to play it again when drier. Challenging holes.
Not used to Bermuda grass that would swallow your ball, but course was beautiful. Greens were a little spotty.
Bad shape
90 percent of the greens are in very bad shape, the fairways are in good shape, if you don’t hit the fairway it will take a minute to find your ball. Overall I will not play this course again. Not worth playing if you are a serious golfer.
The roughs where all soggy wet
The greens still had aeration marks.. the bounced a lot
Greens were unplayable
I loved the layout of the course. Some difficult holes. Some were beautiful. Fun to play until you got on the greens. Most of the greens were in horrible condition! Lots of bare spots, dead grass, made putting very difficult. Most of the greens were very bumpy due to lack of people not repairing their ball Mark's. Again this made putting very difficult. If course management can get the greens back in playing condition this would be a top course. Please sue some work on the carts paths. The roughness and bumps made it hard to follow the 90 degree rule.
Nice course
Older course, short and narrow, but very fun to play. Some of the greens were showing some late summer wear, and it looks like they need to be punched. I’d have liked to see a Marshall patrol, but groups were friendly and let me play through (unlike other courses in the area). Overall, I enjoyed the course. I mostly kept the driver in the bag since the course is fairly short. The cart paths/layout of the course is very neat, just bring some big spray, the mosquitoes were pretty active.
Most reliable course in Va Beach
Have been coming to Va Beach for vacation since 1983
Hells point is and always will be one of my favorite courses to play
Nice people and amazed how well the course has been kept up despite the amount of rain
Misinformed
Booked the tee time with NO knowledge that only 11 holes were playable. I understand that conditions are linked to weather patterns, would've been nice to be informed.
