Nestled in the foothills of Yorba Linda, Black Gold Golf Club sits on the site of a former Shell Oil Field. Arthur Hills, the course's designer, thought the location, with its dramatic elevation changes and panoramic views overlooking Orange County and Palm Beach, was the perfect place for a round of golf. On a clear day, the views stretch as far as the Pacific Ocean and Catalina Island. The challenging layout is filled with narrow, rolling fairways and fast greens accented by thick patches of punishing rough. Due to the hilly terrain, a flat lie is hard to come by. The front nine requires accuracy and the back nine offers some particularly interesting risk-reward opportunities. Water hazards come into play throughout Black Gold Golf Club, most notably on the 18th. This par-5 finishing hole incorporates a cascading waterfall.

Great course thanks for the discount

Course was in amazing shape even though we are in a drought. Greens had been punched but that's why it was so cheap! Will definitely play again!

No Bang for the Buck

Course is in less than descent condition, yellow and dry. Greens were descent, well kept and very fast. I expected much more for the price. Not as pretty as their photo gallery.

Black Gold is worth every penny

I have been playing at Black Gold for almost 10 years and I love playing the course. The fairways are wide and you can get away with 3 wood or 3 iron on many tee boxes but approach shots are the difference between bogeys and potential birdies. First and foremost, everything breaks towards Disneyland..............ask someone where it is if you don't know. You have to keep the ball below the hole or you'll have lightening fast down hillers and big swingers. If it's your first few times playing, you may want to line the ball up between the middle of your putter and the toe just to kill some of the speed because honest to God you can putt the ball right off the green. It shouldn't be a problem to keep the ball in the fairway but you gotta be on point with the irons here. If you can break 80 here than your game is legit. If you are spraying the ball you can easily lose a dozen balls during your round. Great course, easily beat Strawberry Farms and SF is much much more expensive. Tee it up and have fun, it's a great course.

A Great Course

Played it for the first time. What a great course, conditions were very good, greens rolled fast and true. Very tough to read the greens, remember everything breaks west, no matter what you see. Seriously. It is important to hit your approach shot in the right place on the green. I will play this course again. Lots of challenging fun

A very beautiful, but challenging course.

The greens were extremely fast. So many times we would hit the front of the green and the ball would roll completely off the backside of the green. It was a challenge, but we played with friends and we all enjoyed the course. Would definitely play it again!

Super Green

blackgold has always been one of my favorite courses in the area. condition is always nice and in good condition even during the drought. the green can be very tough depend what speed and pin placement. you will almost never get a straight put and everything will move hard towards disneyland. play more break than you think and let the ball slowly roll down slowly. this course is about precision, if you have a big hook or slice, bring more balls.

overall, great course. wish the speed could be a little faster.

Slooooow

I love Black Gold. It is a challenging course. Sadly it was playing really slow on the 11th. We only managed to get in 9 holes in 3 hours.

Nice Course Slow Round

If someone ever posts course etiquettes up at their course they would be doing everyone a huge favor.
Something simple like if you're constantly holding up the group behind you and you're looking for your ball on every hole you might want to let the group behind you play through. (if you're not keeping up with the group in front of you) We thanked the group who let us through on 10, they never saw us again on the whole back 9.

Beautiful, challenging, great conditions

Overall- a solid track, and while for some may feel short, it is a challenge, forcing you to consider the layout and how best to navigate each hole. Greens are in fantastic shape, roll true, and you must be in the right place to avoid three putting. A fun track, with nice views of the IE and beyond.

Great OC track

Really nice course in the OC hills. Conditions are great after years of drought. Greens were very difficult and rolled well. All and all a great course and value. Wish I didn't have to wait on every tee for the 5 some in front of me though.

Best course in the area!

I come to the Anaheim area every fall from Canada and playing Black Gold is a highlight for me. I played it twice this week and it was great. All staff from the checkin at the Proshop to the starters and marshalls are excellent and very personable. Definitely will be back!

Great Couse, greens way below par.....

The Course is in very good shape, with the exception of the greens. The change over to KaKuya grass fairways has been pretty successful. The greens are very uneven, and it appears the pins aren't moved daily causing damage due to too much traffic. I'll wait a month o so, to play it again, maybe something can be done to improve greens.
