About
Editor's Note: Course closed for business in 09/2019.
Nestled at the base of Mount Diablo, Deer Ridge Golf Club wanders through rolling, oak-dappled hills. The course has several challenging holes but the hazards are balanced by more player-friendly elements like wide, forgiving fairways and generous greens. There is also plenty of room off the tees and at just over 6,300 yards it is a manageable length as well. Though it is gentle enough for beginners, the thoughtful routing and hilly terrain keep it interesting for low handicappers. Deer Ridge Golf Club's front nine is more open and slightly less difficult, but the back nine gets a little trickier with more trees and more dramatic elevation changes coming into play. The terrain gives each hole a unique character and different challenges. The wind can also be a major factor. Good course management will be well rewarded.

SO WORTH IT
Course is in very good shape. Greens are nice. Staff very cool and friendly. We went out booked as twosome and picked up a single on front and different one on the back 9. Had a real nice time. Great value for course you playing on. Pace of play was perfect 4 hrs. Each hole is a different look so it never gets to be the same old thing. Lots of elevated tee boxes with great views. Nice and quiet out on this course. I will definitely return for more golf @ Deer Ridge.
Good Greens
Course is in good condition,,,nice greens and fairways. The course meanders through a community ...houses...definitely not a course for walking.
They keep this course in good condition
Impressed with condition of the course in a water challenged year.
couple holes need work
great trak and great staff. a few holes were in bad shape. think a virus or disease must have hit the course. all greens were great. just a few fairways were in bad shape. i would play any holey or divot holes not cause by clubs, as ground under repair. only in fairways because usually if you hit a fairway your lie would be on grass unless you land in a golf shot divot. but if the almost entire fairway is damaged due to bad natural conditions, i would take relief. kinda not what is usual but still a great layout and great weather. had a great time and just take relief on those few fairways.
Good track
It's a very well kept course considering the drought in CA! Fairways were nice greens could've been a little better but they rolled true. Staff was awesome and very helpful. Pace was really slow a lot of foursomes which is good for the course bad for a single. I would definitely come back n play.
Course is always enjoyable to play, especially at their special pricing
Course is usually in good shape but could use more sand in bunkers
Great course
As far as course conditions go, it was great. Play was at great pace, challenging and fun. The staff is less than friendly, borderline rude. Don't expect any refreshments or food on a Saturday until after 11:30! And plan on going in to town for an after round drink and a bite to eat. Other than that, highly enjoyably.
Last Minute Plans
Got off work early. Looked up tee times on Golf Now. Deer Ridge had several to choose from for $16. Booked the 2:26 time. No waiting. Went out the front 9. Weather was overcast with slight wind. Light rain had passed through earlier in the day. The course was in great shape. Greens were firm but holding. I played the front 9 alone in 1 hour. The back was slower and I joined another single. Was a good day. Shot 89
Worst course I have played in a while
I have played this course several times, but not in the past 5 years. I love this course. I love the layout. I even have my only hole in one on this course.
I arrived in time, staff was very nice but obviously under staffed. We teed off on time and enjoyed the first hole. We got to the second tee( par 4) and there was a group waiting to tee off. It took an hour and a half to play 4 holes. It did speed up from there because we finished front nine injust over 2.5 hours. A marshal teed us off, but never saw him again. I had to quit after 16 holes because i had an appointment. This was the 5 hour mark of the round. I am not sure if it was just one group slowing things down, but would have been nice to see one Marshall helping things out.
I understand we are in a drought, but the conditions were horrible. The tee boxes were about half grass. 10th fairway was only weeds! Only weeds! I don't mind hard packed ground or dead grass, but weeds?
The greens were riddled with ball marks. The greens had not been mowed in 2-3 days.
I understand the rates were cheap, but there must have been over 200 players this weekday. That should be enough to make sure people were happy.
Btw the practice facility was gone! It used to be off mats into a net, you don't need water to do that!
Unfortunatly I won't be back for a while. I love this course and would have paid double to play a much better course.
Good value and need improvement on Hole 10
2nd time playing here...for the value can't beat it.
I would like to see some improvement on Hole 10...there's no GRASS on fairways...its some type of weeds covered ground. It would have lots of water in Winter...which we have dry condition therefore no water...but weeds(?) covered ground...
Good and challenging course
The course was great shape even with the drought. Pace was good, could have been better if they didn't allow a five some on Sunday. The only beef I have is not with the course but with GolfNow. With the amount of bookings I make, they should waive the booking fees after so many spots booked. Last year they waived the fees after 10 bookings and that made many of my friends and I book more times with GolfNow. Now we are booking with other sites and getting better deals. If they look at how many I personally booked last year and compare it with this year, they will see a substantially less booking. Over 50 percent less. But we are playing more this year compared to last year. My friends have voiced the same concerns. I already booked my next t-time on a different site that provides a 20percent off and &1.50 less bookin fees.
Aeration Special
A minor aeration in the past few days caused the greens to be bumpy and slow from the sand. Normally these greens are quick with lots of break. Some of the fairways were just weeds with lots of bare patches probably caused by the drought. I like the layout and it can get windy out here. Sand traps were firm. Play it in about two weeks and the greens will be much improved. Can't complain about a $15 green fee.
Needs water and marshals
Course was in fair shape but many of the landing areas had no grass and should have been marked ground under repair. A simple case of the grounds keeper not paying attention to his course. I know there is a drought but manage where the water is going because you had muddy areas and severly dried areas. Greens had been plugged and sanded but could have been mowed or pins better placed instead of over sanded areas.
Deer Ridge doing well in drought conditions
My wife and I play often in Brentwood/Antioch but this was our first round on Deer Ridge. We were very pleased with the course. The drought has taken it's toll on all courses in CA. and the fairways are hardest hit, but Deer Ridge has done a nice job of minimizing the impact. The fairways are still very playable and consistant. The greens are in great shape. This course is a little shorter than many, but the layout provides challenging opportunities to use most of the clubs in your bag, choose your tee box for distance
Probably a good course
Played the course on Saturday, August 29th. Saw the price online and it was very good so I booked a twosome. When we arrived to the course, we found out why the price was so good. They had just punched and sanded the greens. This made for a difficult day. The course layout is excellent. A good variety of holes and a very challenging layout. The condition of the course was so-so, however given the drought conditions that we have had, this can be overlooked. Other than the greens, the only scar on this nice course was the 10th hole. It is a disaster. The fairway is primarily weeds, no grass. All that said, I would like to play the course again when the greens are back to shape. We had a fun day, but I would like to experience the course in better condition.
Aerated Greens
Prepaid $13 with cart but did not know the greens were aerated. The rest of the course was in descent conditions considering the drought we're in. Just wish we could know ahead of time about the aeragation
My Review
It would have been nice to know that aerating was going on before I purchased my tee times. The course is in awful shape compared to the past times I have played it. Hole 10 is rediculous there is no fairway it is all weeds. Not a good round at all. Hope they get the course back into shape. Used to be one of my favorites in town.
fairway
I disappoint this time, most fairway was bad, green was not used be. no sand or hard most bunkers.
Cool course ! Fun playing target golf for a change .
The course was interesting , and the greens were nice . I will play it again for sure .
Bang for ur buck
Deer ridge is smack in the middle of 4 courses. Shadow, Roddy, Brentwood and deer all within 2 miles of each other. I put deer ridge above all the other 3 courses. The course is beautiful, conditions are great, it's challenging yet maintainable. The pace of play is horrible and there are never any cart girls but for the price u can't beat it.
