Editor's Note: Course closed for business in 09/2019.

Nestled at the base of Mount Diablo, Deer Ridge Golf Club wanders through rolling, oak-dappled hills. The course has several challenging holes but the hazards are balanced by more player-friendly elements like wide, forgiving fairways and generous greens. There is also plenty of room off the tees and at just over 6,300 yards it is a manageable length as well. Though it is gentle enough for beginners, the thoughtful routing and hilly terrain keep it interesting for low handicappers. Deer Ridge Golf Club's front nine is more open and slightly less difficult, but the back nine gets a little trickier with more trees and more dramatic elevation changes coming into play. The terrain gives each hole a unique character and different challenges. The wind can also be a major factor. Good course management will be well rewarded.

Finally Available!

This is one of my favorite golf courses to play but it was impossible to get tee times on the weekends with all their members. Now they have less members which is good for me because I can go play there more. Fun course with a great tee shot on 16.

whites please

The green were good but there were too many golfers sent. Also, too many of them were playing the wrong tee boxes (blue and even black), slowing down play. It's hard these days for courses to maintain pace under these conditions with people overestimating their talents. Not sure what the answer is but a marshal might inquire then suggest the tee to be used but that would inflame the egos of some people... it's a tough part of the business.

Great Course

Great course, well maintained, excellent greens, horrible pace of play. Teed off a little before 11am on a Monday, finished with a 5+ hour round. Waited to tee off on most holes. Despite the poor pace of play I had a great round. The greens were in great shape and the course drained very well, not really any mud on the course - while other courses I've played in the past few days were extremely muddy. Overall it was a great round.

Overall Good, but very slow play

We were excited to play Deer Ridge for the first time and did start at the time booked, however it was immediately apparent that play would be slow. A foursome two slots ahead of us needed a little prodding or lesson in ;ready golf', but no Marshall ever appeared on the course. We finally bailed after 13 holes, where we could return to the clubhouse safely on city streets. Also, supposedly the roughs had just been mowed, but were 3" - 4" deep, making finding balls that would normally be in-play, very tough or impossible (my wife and I lost about 5 just in the roughs).
We will give Deer Ridge another try, but hope they address these issues before our next round.

Deer Ridge Day

Pace of play was ridiculous. Starter did not honor tee times, just sent golfers back-to-back-to back. We teed off 10 min early, so pace of play could have been much better controlled. It was not unusual to have two groups waiting on tees all day. We got backed up on one hole as three groups were waiting for two mowers in the middle of the fairway. The mowers interrupted a group that was in the middle of play on the hole. Course was in good condition considering the amount of recent rain. Back nine was beautiful and set up very cool. Greens were in great condition. I would not play this course again.

Nice course...but slow play

Course was in excellent shape. We played on Sat (early afternoon). Pace of play was terrible. Took awhile to get the marshal out there. Apparently there was a 4-5 group tourney a few groups ahead of us. Several groups on most tees. We did finish in 5 hours in the dark (some earlier groups gave up).
I like the course & will return, but they need to get the marshal out on the course more (and past his quit time of 2:30).

Course was nice! Great Day! Only thing for improvement? Yard markers on fairway? Hard to tell yardage without proper markers. No Gps! :-(

Nice lay out from the tips

course is in good shape but the greens have just been fertilized. Fairways were great. Bunkers were the only fault that I can find. There isn't much sand in them and they are very hard.

Nice Course

We came up from Oakdale, CA. The course was nice and we really enjoyed it. I always like courses better without houses. The view of the Mountains is often blocked from the homes. The greens are tough. We played blues and they were shorter than normal courses, but that is not reflected in our score. The greens were very challenging. Overall really fun day and a really good value if purchased through GolfNow.

Nice challenging layout

Great friendly and helpful staff in the pro shop, out on the course and in the cafe. The course could improve yardage markings on the fairways. The greens were rolling true and possessed very good speed. Experienced an excellent round.

pin placements

DR is a decent day golf facility. Easy to play tee to green...generous landing areas. Bunkers were mostly gravel. fairways were chewed up...greens were well tended. Played in less than 4 hours for $10. What would rpevent me from playing this course for more money was the pin placements. Nearly every one placed in a deep corner along a ridge line...so 10' putts had 3' of break and unless you hit the hole you had to chip back on the green or had a longer return putt. 3-putting most greens from 15' because of pin placement is just silly.

Will be back!

Had a great outing at Deer Ridge, staff was friendly, pace of play was great! The pro shop seemed busy but we never saw anyone in front or behind us while on the course. Greens and fairways were in perfect shape. I will be back with my group every year!

short...but challenging!

Considering we are in the middle of a drought course is in pretty great shape. ...greens are fast but are receptive to well struck iron shots. Great value during the week on golfnow. Great course...worth the drive to east county.
