Editor's Note: Course closed for business in 09/2019.

Nestled at the base of Mount Diablo, Deer Ridge Golf Club wanders through rolling, oak-dappled hills. The course has several challenging holes but the hazards are balanced by more player-friendly elements like wide, forgiving fairways and generous greens. There is also plenty of room off the tees and at just over 6,300 yards it is a manageable length as well. Though it is gentle enough for beginners, the thoughtful routing and hilly terrain keep it interesting for low handicappers. Deer Ridge Golf Club's front nine is more open and slightly less difficult, but the back nine gets a little trickier with more trees and more dramatic elevation changes coming into play. The terrain gives each hole a unique character and different challenges. The wind can also be a major factor. Good course management will be well rewarded.

detour

reservations were made Friday morning for a Saturday noon tee time at Deer Ridge, a nice course 45-minutes away. we were not notified that our tee time was in conflict with a tournament until the first of our foursome arrived at the course. luckily, the company that owns Deer Ridge also owns another course, Shadow Lakes in the same area, and they were able to accommodate our prepaid tee time. All worked out ok, but don't understand how this could happen?

A hot weather day

The course is well maintained and watered. The food truck is conveniently supporting the needy for drinks and sandwiches.
Water stations are well located and iced.
We loved the course for its location below Mt Disblo in the background.

Great course

The course was great, the experience could have been made better if the customer service was a little better. The refreshment cart service was excellent but the check in left a little to be desired. After coming off the course tired hot and hungry we were met with a disinterested kitchen staff offering some stale hot dogs. At 2:00 on a Sunday I would have expected a little better. Left a bad taste in my mouth to say the least.

Green Vista

This course is in great shape and unusually green for this drought year. The secret is in the re-cycled water supply. The greens are perfect and the terrain is varied and interesting.
I'd recommend this course to anyone!

Overall good conditions and experience

Much improved staff friendliness and accommodations from the moment I arrived after having a terrible experience with prior staff last year. The course itself was in good shape and the greens relatively fast and well manicured. There was an NCGA tournament out before us, so the pin placements were in tough spots, but overall, fair and challenging. Overall, very good course and very pleased with the turn around in customer service.

Twighlight

We played a twilight foursome and it was great. It was pretty wide open, so we finished almost 15 holes before we had to bring the carts back at 8pm. I would definitely come back.

This course had no greenery. it was really brown

I would have liked to see more greenery and a better food area. All the tee areas were beat up pretty bad. But most of all not alot of trees.

6.5 hrs for a round???

It took us 6.5 hrs for me and my friend to play 18(we can usually finish 18 just under 4 hrs if no wait). It gets to be not fun and a COMPLETE waste of money when you have to wait 15-20 minutes before hitting your ball. There is no rhythm or fluidity to that kinda of golf game. It makes for bad shots and a very not fun time golfing. There was a point because of a par 3 where I did not hit my driver for 45 minutes. You can not golf good when this is happening. This may be the longest it has ever taken me to finish 18. The guy who worked at the clubhouse was very friendly, but thats about it

Fun challenging course

Nice fun course. Got to know which way the valley is going to read the greens right. Greens were in beautiful shape and were little fast. Fairways were good. Rough was rough. We had no one behind us and just a group of 3 in front and was a great fast round for a Tuesday at noon. Cant wait to go back.

Great course

My friends and I try to play a different course every week and this is one that we definitely will visit again soon. Great service from cart rides from car to bag drop and the club cleaning at the end of our round. We actually saw the Bev Cart at least 3 times during our round! Fantastic!!
A little windy but nothing unbearable and the views were great!

Fun times but was stuck behind a tournament for a 6 and1/2 hour round

Fun course that has some cool layouts. Being stuck behind a 36 foursome tournament was taxing. But if anything this game teaches you is patience and being with a set of friends and family in my group helped tons. We did however did not see a cart person the whole round. This was bad planning somewhere and we ended up paying for it. Considering it took 3 hours and 15 minutes until we reached the proshop to get whatever we could carry. I do like the course and the staff was great. But learned my lesson on booking here.

Need

U need ball washers and tee number signs in all holes. Number 10 tee is confusing due to lack of sign or direction. Ball washers a must in all holes. No exceptions. Also whts up with only 1 toilet in the bathroom? Tournament on sunday April 6th and there was a line waiting to use the toilet. Not good please fix that. For the price of playing, these things are a no brainer. Other than that, the course was so much fun to play and thank you for great maintenance.

good course but too many slow rude players

played the course on a Friday as a 4some from the black tees. The weather was off and on rain till the late afternoon. The pace of play was very slow. A 5 hour round for such a short course was horrible. The course was full of rude golfers with no golf educate. Slow play with no concern for those behind them. Slow off the tees, slow in the fairways and even slower on the greens. Should have known since when I was checking in another golfer was in the shop complaining about the slow rude players. The fairways and greens were in very good shape. For the high prices they charge definitely not worth the price.
