Nestled at the base of Mount Diablo, Deer Ridge Golf Club wanders through rolling, oak-dappled hills. The course has several challenging holes but the hazards are balanced by more player-friendly elements like wide, forgiving fairways and generous greens. There is also plenty of room off the tees and at just over 6,300 yards it is a manageable length as well. Though it is gentle enough for beginners, the thoughtful routing and hilly terrain keep it interesting for low handicappers. Deer Ridge Golf Club's front nine is more open and slightly less difficult, but the back nine gets a little trickier with more trees and more dramatic elevation changes coming into play. The terrain gives each hole a unique character and different challenges. The wind can also be a major factor. Good course management will be well rewarded.

Course is well maintain for the value.
I drove 64 miles oneway to play this course and it was well worth it. It's hard to believe you can play a course this good for the price.
Better than average, and a great time
Deer Ridge is a great course with hole layout that brings risk and reward but it still has a sneaky ability to humble you. To me the signature hole should be 16 with a huge elevated tee, your wanting to bring every inch of driver but if your not accurate the tall brush on either side is hungry for another PRO V1 lunch. The green are well maintained. Staff is always top notch. I am seriously considering getting a membership. One of my favorite courses in the Brentwood area. A must play.
Decent course
Course was in fairly good shape , fairways average but greens very good. Semi fast with alot of breaks and hills on them. Course is challenging and you must hit the ball fairly straight or you will lose many balls. Worth playing.
Fun course, fast and smooth greens, lush fairways
Deer Ridge is a great course, especially for the value. The fairways have a few small patches that are in need of repair but they're marked and you can drop outside of those small patches. For the most part the fairways are lush. Fairways are narrow in places but missing left or right a little doesnt usually kill your chances of getting on the green. The sand traps are very well maintained and even though some of them are deep, the sand is just right and it's not too bad getting out. From any tees, this is a strategy course where you dont always need to tee off with a driver but for the risk vs reward players there are great opportunities for driving the green or getting to the green in 2 on a par 5. One par 5 I took 7 iron, 7 iron, G wedge because of a mid fairway hazard. I'll definitely play this course again regularly.
Excellent greens, interesting layout, good value.
Like it's neighbor Shadow Lakes, Deer Ridge has few trees and is exposed to a lot of wind, at least in the summer when I played both courses. Deer Ridge has a more varied layout. It also has houses that visually are tighter in to the course, though they are mostly out of play even for hackers. I love the greens (on both courses) - they roll incredibly true and given the climate are not excessively firm. I don't know how they do it. Maybe the courses don't get that much play? Deer Ridge is a little shorter than Shadow Lakes. As 10-12 handicaps, we played the tips (~6,300 yds) and were mostly pleased with the distances. We played twilight rounds booked through Golf Now and the value for $ can not be beat! I preferred Deer Ridge and my partner preferred Shadow Lakes. We agreed that both are a lot of fun and a good challenge.
nice setting
one of our favorites. just challenging enough, and well maintained.
GREENS WERE IN GREAT SHAPE
GREENS WERE GREAT , MOST FAIRWAYS WERE IN GOOD SHAPE , TEE BOXES WERE GOOD , WILL PLAY AGAIN
Challenging golf
Deer Ridge golf course offers the challenge of target golf on a course that is not long in the hills of Brentwood.
The course has almost no practice facility so warming up is better done at its sister course Shadow Lakes.
If you can hit the fairways and greens, negotiate the hills and winds, you can be rewarded with a solid score.
I like the course for its challenges but the fairways and greens are showing bald spots in July.
Course is in good shape but took over 5 1/2 hours to play
Enjoyed playing the course. The greens were in excellent condition. Unfortunately, the round took over 5 1/2 hours. The course needs to have the marshalls encourage slower groups to pick up the pace.
The beverage cart was available the entire time and came by often.
Deer Ridge - Beauty in the Foothills
Beautiful looking course. Very well maintained. Played from tips and lots of layups off the tees were needed; more of a shorter, strategic course. Only an hour from the san jose bay area and only an hour from Sacramento! Everyone should play it!
best course around my area
The entire course is in great condition. The greens are well maintained. And the cart girl showed up every other hole, which was great in 90* weather..
Course in good condition
Upon checking in the person in pro shop lit us know that we could start half an hour early because there was a group of 3-4 foursomes that were going to play. We checked with the people in the group on practice putting green and they said go ahead, this kept our pace of play moving quickly.
good lay out
very good pace, played in the afternoon, I always enjoy playing this course even the temperature was over 100 degrees.
One of best courses in the Delta area.
Course was in great shape. We were the only ones out.
Staff was friendly.
Great layout. rewarding!
great layout. It was a little windy when I played which added to the difficulty of the course. The only thing that can be improved would be putting a little sand in the bunkers. The staff is friendly and willing to help with anything you might need.
This course use to be pristine
When I first played this course years ago it was in magnificent shape, now the fairways are like yellow pavement and the grass around the bunkers look horrible. The 10th hole needs major grass and water attention.I only recomend this course if you live close by,definately not worth driving to from outa town.Brentwood Country Club is actuailly in better shape than both Shadow Lakes and Deer Ridge which is sad because DR and SL are a way better layout.
Good course
It's a short course that plays longer because of the wind which is always there. Has a good short game practice area. Well maintained. Takes a few rounds to learn landing zones ( wind + elevated tee's/doglegs etc). Pace of play has always been good when I've played.
The only real detractors of Deer Ridge to me are the lack of a driving range and the ever present wind.
Fun and challenging course
The course is well maintained and provides plenty of challenge, despite it being short. I found myself in plenty of bunkers and sometimes in deep rough, and the wind picks up in the afternoon. The price is excellent as well, as I played for only $35 per person on a holiday.
The lady at the snack counter wasn't very friendly, but other staff at the course were easier to interact with. Still, this is fairly minor given the positives of the course.
Excellent Saturday
There wasn't a bad hole on the course. I found Tees 1 thru 18 fun and challenging. I was able to exercise most of my clubs and maintain a respectable +15 over.
This course has good layout.
Course is good for all level players. Condition was good and playing pace was good.
