Nestled at the base of Mount Diablo, Deer Ridge Golf Club wanders through rolling, oak-dappled hills. The course has several challenging holes but the hazards are balanced by more player-friendly elements like wide, forgiving fairways and generous greens. There is also plenty of room off the tees and at just over 6,300 yards it is a manageable length as well. Though it is gentle enough for beginners, the thoughtful routing and hilly terrain keep it interesting for low handicappers. Deer Ridge Golf Club's front nine is more open and slightly less difficult, but the back nine gets a little trickier with more trees and more dramatic elevation changes coming into play. The terrain gives each hole a unique character and different challenges. The wind can also be a major factor. Good course management will be well rewarded.

Well maintained golf course
The golf course is in good shape. As always hot deals from
golfnow are very affordable.
greens atill a little bumpy
got off on time. needs a driving range so you can warm up
chipping area a little iffy.
putting green good and in good condition.
course played at a good pace-- was a pretty slow day and we got
around in 4 hrs.
would have been faster, but we got slowed down on the back 9
by group in front of us.
course in pretty good condition.
i'll play there again.
This course has a nice layout and was fun to play.
The course is well maintained, the greens were in great shape.
I rated it a great value, but I got a great price on golfnow. Only $14 dollars WOW. It played in 5 hours but I was stuck behind the last group of a high school tourney. I will be playing here again.
Thanks Golfnow.com
Course was well maintained with good greens and lots of bunkers.
The course was in good shape and the greens were in good condition and fast. Some of the tee boxes needed maintenance and the staff in the pro shop seemed a bit indifferent.
Best course in the area.
I just love the set up of this course. I may be a personal thing like the trouble areas are not where I typically miss, I don't know. At any rate I live in a Mecca of courses but Deer Ridge is my clear cut favorite.
Lacking...
Reading the Shadow Lakes / Deer Ridge website, this course is portrayed as one of the best in the area with a great practice facility. A 125 yard driving range is not what I would call a great practice facility. The range balls were all covered in mud/grime as well, perhaps they should invest in a ball washer. The bunker in the practice area was next to useless, less than a 1/4" of sand on top of hard clay. Bunkers were a bit better on the course, though I only ended up in two bunkers. The mats are all rippled, difficult to even find a flat spot to hit off of. To the side there are a series of tall poles that appear to be the remnants of an old hitting area, with mats still in place, likely they used to have a setup for doing full swing practice. These poles stand as a reminder of how the course does not have a full swing practice area anymore.
The staff were cordial but not terribly helpful. They should ask players they don't recognize if it's their first time at the course, and if so, provide some additional guidance. There was no starter, nobody calling out start times over a PA system. We were beside the first tee at our tee-off time, and there was someone just on the fairway as we were about to tee-off, so either someone snuck on in front of us, or the pro-shop just wasn't managing the tee sheet at all. Then a three-some tee'd off right behind us, nearly hitting us with one of their drives. The pro shop really needs to be more proactive in managing the play on their course.
Signage is lacking, we had to go into the pro shop to get directions to the 10th tee, and the group behind us came to chat with us to find out if they had indeed found the 10th tee.
The greens are in reasonable shape but were quite slow compared to what I'm used to. Not sure if it's a time of year thing or if they are always this slow.
The snack/drink cart came around once in the 18 holes. The only food they had was a few chocolate bars and two Sara Lee muffins. The drinks we're not cold, there was hardly any ice in the bottom of the drink area.
The course itself has some fun holes, elevation changes make it an interesting course to play. If you lower your expectations with regards to practice facilities, customer service and services, you'll have a decent time.
better course in the area
One of the better course in the area, very challenging! Cons small driving range, needs better food/drink club house choices!
Wednesday golf
If you like to play at a good pace, play during the week. Play was great on Wednesday with just a few people playing. The course is in great shape.
Nice course, no driving range, that time of the year with sand on the greens
The course itself is very nice with some great challenges. Play was quick but again the greens were sanded so I'm sure most were playing elsewhere. They only have a chipping area, no driving range.
good condition with exception of recovering aerated greens
great course, prob could use a standard starter in place to coordinate tee off times, also we were "not" informed the greens were still recovering from aeration, thus making them roll at muni or below speed. until the greens have fully recovered this should be disclosed...we didn't get time to use the practice green where I suspect we would have realized this before making our way to the first green.
all in all, a pleasant experience and not overpriced.
beautiful views! nice layout
stunning spring day made for a nice afternoon foray.the only problem was the greens were just sanded ,but they were still puttable.looking forward to next time.
Nice course during the spring weather...
This is a nice course (despite the sandy & aerrated greens) that winds its way through a hilly residential neighborhood. I like the course and the price was reasonable. Watch out for scorching summer temps.
Best in Brentwood
Of the three courses out here, this is the most interesting. The front nine is typical houses-on-the-fairway golf (which I detest). The back side, particularly the last half dozen holes, is much more to my liking.
Course conditions are average. Pace of play is very good when I have played, and he price is right!
pace of play, or lack there of.....
From the very start of our round, our threesome was waiting on the twosome in front of us because they had a twosome in front of them and then another (3 in a row) we finally had the course marshal meet us on the 4th tee box and asked if he could pair up any of the twosomes (which he never did)
we called the golf shop, but they never sent the marshal back out to us? We had to leave on the 14th hole because our round was pushing 5 hours, and getting difficult to see since it was pretty dark at that point.
Hole diversity
The course layout is very consistent, yet every hole is unique. Each hole has its' own character but nicely integrates into the course as a whole. I used every club in my bag. Greens were firm and fast. It is a cart riders course due to distances between some holes. It is worth the drive and is a terrific value. Staff are very pleasant and helpful...not pretentious at all. Go, play, enjoy!
Not the best experience
The golf course was in decent shape, nothing exceptional. It has definetely degraded over past year or so. The fairways had lot of dry spots. Overall not a bad place if you get <$30 tee time and they take care of the aweful smell that permeates on many holes. There is stagnant water on hole#5, 9, 10, 17, 18 which smells horrible. Much of it, especially #10 smells and feels like broken sewer drain. Just horrible. I even checked with my playing partner if I was imagining this but he agreed too. I have no ideas why they wouldn't fix it. Am definetely going to avoid this course until they fix it.
Good course to add to the local rotation
Deer Ridge always a fun track. For this round a shot gun start earlier in the day resulted in a few very choked up holes - not much to do about a frost delay...
This course is a resort like terrain. Very pleasant and enjoyavle to play at.
This course has a moderate rolling terrain and a surprise at the last few holes. Because of the characteristic and view of the location it makes it very pleasant to play at.
Was pleasantly surprised to find course in such great condition after all the recent rain.
Entire course was in excellent condition in spite of recent rain. Greens were as close to perfect as could be. Rolling true and fast. Had a very good day of golf with some club members who knew the course.
course in good condition
one of the well kept golf course in east bay. always kept in good condition and it drians really good and the price was very reasonable.
