Old Hickory Golf Club
About
Beaver Creek divides Old Hickory Golf Club with nine holes sitting north of the creek and nine holes south. The course has a classic parkland layout that plays across gently rolling hills. The fairways were cut through forests of mature hardwoods but they are wide and carefully sculpted to direct balls toward the middle. Skillful players could even try to use the contours to their advantage. Each hole has a bunkers but the bunkering is not excessive. In addition to the mounding and bunkering, the undulating terrain provides natural elevation changes. The golf course finishes with what is arguably its toughest hole. This monster par 5 is 620 yards from the back tees. It requires a drive over a ravine with a natural waste area to the left. Many consider it to be the toughest golf hole in northern Virginia.

Crazy ride
First few holes are a little helter skelter in placement around the residential community, but course gave a 3-4 round a year hacker like me a good challenge. I think the greens are little more difficult than most of the other public courses I play. Will be prepared to place my iron shots into the greens a little better next time. Had my Son with me so how could it not be a blast!
Challenging Course - Divot/Ball mark central
I've played this course numerous times. But this was the first time in 2014. It was divot central. the fairways were riddled with divots. Normally we would play it as it lies, but it seemed every drive a ball ended in a divot and it just got to be irritating. the greens were loaded with unfixed ball marks. I found myself spending more time fixing ball marks on the green rather than focusing on my putt. But that is my issue. the pace of play was great, but then again I was playing at 6:56 in the morning. for 72 bucks, I would have hoped for better fairway/green conditions.
I'd play again, but would be weary about the divots and greens again.
Old Hicks
I found the shots from the tee boxes very fair, but most of the pin placements on that day were insane. The people I played with are regulars and said they had never seen pins like that there before.
And with all the rain we've had, the bunkers were very thick.
Regardless, I love the course and will go back.

Great golf experience
From the friendly staff to the condition of the course, golfing at old hickory was an awesome experience. I would recommend the course to everyone.
Good Value if You Can Catch A Special
Played once before with a friend a few years ago. its an high end course, but was able to catch a deal on Golf Now so the value was better. Driving range only allows driver use into a net, so that was disappointing. All else was pleasant.
Best in the area
Good course to play under $50 on week day we'll maintain
Beautiful course
Great day of golf...only issue was a group of 6 that played the front nine and really held up play...did not see a marshall to deal with it...happily they left after 9 and the back was much more open
Nice course
Nice course but back 9 was extremely slow...waited in excess from 10 on in.
What a great round of golf
Beginning with the warm reception by Brian in the clubhouse, to the friendly service from Elise the cart person, to Larry at the end of the round, the personnel were wonderful. The course was in magnificent condition. The greens were the best I have played on in years. Will return again and again. Hope this review doesn't generate to much additional play. The course is challenging for the new player and sometimes slows down play for those more familiar with this track.
Excellent course as alway
Course is always in great shape. Course was empty and we were shocked because there are always players on the course. The only issue that seems to plague Old Hickory is the carts. They are constantly dying during rounds ....hope they fix this problem soon....it would cause myself to stop playing there.
Worth the money - played twilight - limited yardage help
The course was in fantastic condition, and the greens were true and fast. The only dig I have against this course is the same as Raspberry Falls...there is not enough yardage help on the course, and there are no cart GPS systems. Everything is a guess if you don't carry a range finder, or you are constantly pacing off distance from too far away. It just slows things down in my opinion. Also, if you are paying full fees, don't you think you would be disappointed if the yardage assistance wasn't there? Com' on Man!
Somewhat Overpriced for What You Get
Look, the course was in good condition. The staff was friendly. I was pretty disappointed in the "driving range" and the fact that we had to swap out two golf carts b/c they were busted and wouldn't climb up a hill. If I'm paying what they expect to pay at this course the golf cart better get me around 18 holes!! The sand bunkers were not in great shape either. Most of them had mud puddles in the bottom of them (and we haven't even had much rain...) The greens were good, challenging and rolled pretty quick. It was definitely a challenging course. I don't think I've seen that many sand bunkers on a course in a while. The driving range is a bit of a joke. You have to hit your woods into a net. Or you can go down the line and hit your irons into what looks like a cow pasture. I don't think I will be visiting this place again. There are too many other nice courses in the area to play.
Beautiful course, quiet environment and challenging! holes
Great course, especially with a GolfNow rate (40% off) - played a Saturday afternoon and had beautiful weather. Greens are receptive and fairways are in excellent condition - bunkers were smooth and unbothered. Greens feed toward hole locations on most, which is nice for those of who aren't scratch golfers. Good drives are rewarded. Definitely going to play here again!
Course reveiw
Course needs more ball washes! The course was cart path only should have been 90 degree in my opinion!
Great Course
I have been playing here for many years. They seem to keep their course in good shape all the time.
Good course
I liked the challenging aspects of the course, although the traps are a little steep for non-links, non-professional golfers such as myself. Precision is a must on this course.
Bogey Boi
Best Bang for your buck in the DMV, hand down. The course always in good shape, pace of play is solid, and club house is legit.
A Must Play Course!!
I can't believe it's taken me so long to get over, 30 minutes from my home or so and play this gem.
The course is truly beautiful; despite having many homes winding through it. The abundance of trees leaves you ignoring the homes (which are not shabby by any means!) and concentrating on the challenging and magnificent course in front of you!
I play a LOT of golf and play to a "10" or so and must say; this was quite challenging!! The greens in particular have big elevation changes and you must think hard about shot placement. I played on a Monday and it was not very crowded but still have a few foursomes in front which slowed my twosome down.
There are elevated greens and descending greens. All in all, one of the most enjoyable rounds I can recall and I can't WAIT to get back there and give it another shot!!! LOL
mr
Driving range is poor compared to the course. However, green is fantastic.
